Work Text:
Tired. That’s how Dazai felt, despite his newfound enthusiasm and his lack of interest. The brunette found himself rather spent.
The day had gone slow, the two traitors of the mafia once again work together for another ADA mission.
Chuuya and Dazai.
That usually hidden, null inside, void of any actual human connection, seemed to bend its ways. Dazai, despite his well known distance from others, sets aside his desire for apathy and looks to Chuuya as his pillow for this rather long ride.
The train tracks make a thud every few seconds, a soft tempo that lulls those already tempted by the thought of sleep into a further cycle of exhaustion. His eyes unusually soft, full of withheld fatigue.
His jaw lands just atop of Chuuya’s shoulder, the unsuspecting victim of Dazai’s next napping ground.
Chuuya, ever so known for his deep pride, raises a brow. A sight of confusion crossing his expression.
“What the hell are you doing?”
He asks as though he was annoyed yet, despite this feigned aggression his stance said otherwise. Allowing the other to lean onto his shoulder.
Dazai’s hazel brown eyes land on his captivating diamond gaze, intense with confusion yet, a hidden glint of fondness which; obviously didn’t go unnoticed by the brunette detective.
“Sleeping.”
He simply stated, closing his eyes without the fear of being rejected. He knew Chuuya, the strangely loyal and temperamental ginger he couldn’t help but grow fond of over time. Chuuya’s naturally loyal and respectful demeanor showing through as he hesitated for a moment, his pride on the line. Before shoving his ego to the side. The once proud Chuuya giving into the temptation that was to let Dazai sleep.
The shared heat was a comforting gesture against the cold of the air that awaited them outside the train. The shuffling of people on and off per stop a regular sound.
Of course, it’d be foolish for one to think this moment could last forever.
Chuuya’s thoughts came to an abrupt halt.
”We’ve reached Yokohama! Please make sure no personal items are left behind. Have a wonderful day. Thank you for using…”
Her words seemed to fizzle out, like white noise on a TV as Chuuya shifted his attention to the sleeping brunette beside him. Waking him up without the soft touch or kind regards. Shrugging Dazai’s slump head off before hitting his shoulder.
“Wake up, we’re here.”
He said rather plainly. As though he’d been waiting for this moment to end; though it was evident he enjoyed it. Dazai stirred awake, a sigh of frustration escaping his lips as he recognized his sleep didn’t fulfill his needy exhaustion. No matter, the duo made it into the crowd of shuffling people and off the train. Touching shoulder to shoulder with strangers.
The drive back to the ADA was rather quiet. Mimicking the atmosphere of the train; hushed and yet.. oddly tiring. Almost inviting.
Dazai, trusting Chuuya’s driving more than his own, didn’t argue as Chuuya demanded he drive. The redhead taking the drivers seat without waiting for consent.

Though the two never fully addressed what took place on that train, they both knew how they felt.
Silently comforted and grateful
of course… they’d never admit that aloud.
