Wednesday's Popularity, Woefully

Summary:

Following all of Wednesday's crazy Nevermore adventures involving Hydes, red herrings, and a crazy Normie, Wednesday is forced to deal with a new problem...newfound popularity. Good thing Enid can explain the ins and outs of Wednesday's little "problem."

NOTE: This was written before Season 2 was out but took forever to get made.

Work Text:

Wednesday Addams was never a popular person at all the schools she went to, before Nevermore.  And she was fine with it.  It allowed her to write, scheme, and do many other things in peace.  But after dealing with a whole host of mysteries at Nevermore Academy, she now found herself at the center of everyone's attention much to her annoyance.  Following an incessant first day of girls and guys begging for her autograph, teachers and staff praising her nonstop, and a horde of notes and letters plastered all over her dorm door, her patience was quickly running thin.  She and Thing needed to take extreme measures.

Bear traps seemed like an optimal way to drive intruders away.

"Okay, why do we have bear traps all over our dorm?!" Enid Sinclair asked, as she was getting ready to go to bed.

"It's to prevent the hordes of stalkers and other kinds of mobs from showing up at the door.  Not only are they infringing my privacy, I'm barely getting by with one...overly sociable individual," Wednesday replied.

Enid sighed and said, "You should be flattered, everyone loves you!  Plus, you're someone who deserves the praise considering you did save us from certain doom."

Thing signed in agreement.  "Et tu, Thing?" Wednesday growled.  Thing made a shrug as a response.

Enid walked over to the middle of the room, making sure not to step over Wednesday's divider as she said, "Look, I'm not saying popularity is all good."  She paused for a moment, before an idea popped in her head.

"Give me a minute, I can explain all the details that'll give you the know-how of being popular!" Enid chirped, as she ran to get a whiteboard and markers.

Wednesday was willing to wait.

A Few Minutes Later...

Enid brought out her whiteboard as she said, "This side has the pros while the other side has the cons of popularity.  Do you want bad news or good news first?"

Wednesday quickly responded, "I always save the best for last.  Good news first."

"Alrighty then," Enid said, as she began.  "So, the good things about being popular...most people will be nice to you!  Or just know not to cross you in a negative way."

"I already enforce that," Wednesday replied.

Enid laughed, before continuing.  "Also, you'll be seen as someone to turn to for advice!  Being popular makes you a role model to others, and more people will want to do things your way!"

Wednesday deadpanned back to this, "I'm one of a kind.  Replicating me would be near-impossible.  Though I wouldn't mind sharing a few helpful notes of advice to people in desperate need of a reinvention in life."

It was all beginning to make sense to Enid now.

"This isn't what you find good news, is it?"

"No, Enid," Wednesday replied, "But it's likely all annoyances compared to whatever you find to be bad news, is it?"

"Well, with how you reacted..." Enid started as she turned over the board to the side showing bad news, "I think a lot of these are the same, aren't they?  Stalking, harassment, possible misunderstandings that could wreck your image, and having too much influence over people.  That could lead to possible recreations of your traits."

Wednesday nodded as she said, "Looking at both sides of the board, it all seems like a problem."

Enid paused before saying, "If there's anything I've learned from being here, it's that making the best of non-favorable solutions works!"

Wednesday thought for a moment, eyeing Enid.  Then a solution she had wished she'd thought of before placing the bear traps formulated.

"Enid, would you say that your association with me as a roommate has given you some newfound attention?"

Enid immediately replied, "Absolutely!  If you're not around, people will ask me about you."

"Then perhaps we can compromise on the situation involving my new...'fans,'" Wednesday said.

"Okay then..." Enid said, "What are you thinking of doing?"

"Could you perhaps divert our fans' attention?  As long as you check with me about whatever you reveal about me...I'd like to make sure the secrets and bodies stay buried."

"You mean like your PR?" Enid chirped, excitement beginning to bubble up.

Wednesday nodded, "Certainly.  Though your sunny disposition clashes with me significantly, I'd trust you to handle my perspective and methods with care."

Enid let out a squeal of joy before stopping herself as she said, "Will you no longer set traps at our door then? Because I do kind of need Ajax to stop by every once in a while."

As Wednesday went to her typewriter to begin work on a new idea of hers, she turned back to say, "I'll consider it."

Enid let out a fist pump as she opened the door to the room before turning back and saying, "Maybe now?  Please?"

Wednesday slowly turned to look, glancing at Thing for a moment as he shrugged before looking back up at the entrance.

This was going to be a long year.  Hopefully she and Enid could manage them all...right?

Notes:

Well, it was fun to write Wednesday again! I've been working on a lot of original projects as scripts lately, but I'll get back to my MHA and Stranger Things fics too. Plus, I've got more coming in the future! See you soon...
