Work Text:
Dalik stared at the innocent infant peacefully sleeping inside the crib in front of her. The goddess had led her here. Zanox was the only one that Lamentarius had trusted. He trusted absolutely no one, not even Dalik for some reason. Now Lamentarius was gone. Well, Dalik just didn't know where he was now that everything was over. She planned on asking great Zanox that.
"The gods ask of you one daring task to save Ki from itself," Zanox told Dalik. Zanox had already been through this moment with Lamentarius, but he declined for reasons that Zanox had no choice but to respect. Dalik was the next closest thing to Lamentarius.
"Where's Lamentarius?" Dalik asked like she was an innocent child. She had been like a child to Lamentarius. She was still young with a bright future. A future which would serve the gods.
Zanox looked down at Dalik. It was best that she believed Lamentarius was still alive. "He has.. reunited with his lovely wife." Dalik took that information like it was a drug. Now they had to return to what was quite literally in front of them.
Dalik looked up from the baby to face great Zanox. "What do you ask of me, great Zanox?"
Zanox stepped behind the crib of the royal infant and looked at him. "This is the son of Adro'aka, Ki's empress. In order to ensure that Ki does not fall under another civil war, perhaps a horrific and brutal one, the infant must die."
So, this was Adro'aka's beloved son, Dalik thought. The heir that Adro'aka so desperately wanted more over her. She couldn't kill a baby. But.. the end results would save a lot of lives, which was also what Lamentarius wanted even if he meant it for Aesik.
Zanox could already tell that Dalik would choose to kill the infant. "The way you should choose to kill him is entirely up to you, Dalik."
Then, in an instant, the great Zanox disappeared.
Perhaps it was revenge that made Dalik want to kill the infant. Revenge for Adro'aka not choosing her. Or, Dalik truly wanted to save the lives of many Kis.
