Work Text:
Ears, that’s the first thing that Wilson notices when he looks up from his phone, sitting on the top of Luca’s head. Round beige ears that resemble a cat’s. He initially thinks they’re fake but when the coffee machine makes a small noise, they twitch twice in the direction before returning to their normal state. The cherry on top is Luca glancing in the direction before making eye contact with Wilson again, letting him know that they’re very much real. He doesn’t know why but it makes him giggle. Luca of all people having cat ears, one’s permanently attached to his body, is just a bit funny to him.
“What?” Luca asks, eyes narrowing. If he had a tail it’d probably be swaying right now, Wilson thinks. He could picture one on him if he tried. “Nothing just,” He glances at the ears. “How long have you had those for?” He’s intrigued and his eyes keep going back to the ears as he talks to Luca. “A while, about like 6-8 years now. They just appeared one day and it was sooo embarrassing, I wore hats constantly, but I’ve learned how to hide them for the most part. Some days they just, make themselves known and I can’t make them disappear when that happens, so I just put on a hood or hat if I need to go out," He hums in acknowledgement, the urge to touch starting to grow.
“So they’re retractable?” It’s a bit weird but it makes sense, if he’s been able to hide them from him. “I mean yeah sometimes, but it’s uncomfortable after a few hours,” Wilson nods. His hand begins to reach out before he stops himself, with his hand halfway through the space between them, he motions to the ears. “Can I touch them?” His voice comes out quieter than intended. He knows he has a habit of just doing whatever comes to mind sometimes, but in a situation like this, he thinks he should at least ask for permission.
Luca seems adverse to it initially, not responding, so Wilson begins to lower his hand, about to apologize for asking before Luca speaks up, “I mean you can…just be careful, they’re a bit sensitive,” Wilson nods as Luca moves closer to Wilson, who’s leaning against the kitchen counter. ”Yeah okay, that makes sense,” He doesn’t have to reach up far before he feels soft fur, the tips are a bit cold and they twitch under his touch. He runs his fingers along the edge until he meets hair. He takes note of the contrast of fur and hair, the slightest difference in color, the way fur ombres into the hair.
When he reaches where the ear connects, he begins scratching out of habit, as he would with a regular cat. The ear twitches at the stimulation. He does it again for a few seconds before his own ears pick up on a soft rumbling. Surprised, he pulls his hand back and stares at Luca, who looks off to the side, avoiding eye contact.
“Are you…, you can purr?” It’s a stupid question he thinks as soon as the last syllable drops from his mouth, but Luca nods and Wilson can see the way his neck is tinted a faint pink and how one ear twitches before the other follows suit. He motions as he asks if he can try again, and this time Luca only mutters a small yes as he leans a little lower, with slightly more confidence than before Wilson reaches up again and scratches.
A soft rumble follows soon after, a noise that makes Wilson’s brain short circuit. He feels heat crawling up his neck, at him being the cause, even if this would have happened with anyone else.
When he looks at Luca, the other is just staring off to the side, his neck and face now a more noticeable shade of red. It brings him back to reality and he thumbs along the ear one last time before pulling back. He coughs and begins to awkwardly thumb at the hem of his sweatshirt. “Sorry got carried away,” His voice comes out weirdly pitched and he mentally scoffs at himself. What is wrong with you, it’s just Luca with ears, cat ears to be specific. Yet because it’s Luca, it's all the more reason to be slightly insane about it.
The ears suit him and make him look a bit cuter, but he doesn’t say it out loud, not wanting to add on to the already awkward atmosphere. He just hopes he didn’t weird Luca out with how he reacted. His eyes follow Luca as he stands upright, the image of him being one Wilson will have printed in the back of his mind forever.
The hair that surrounds the edge of the ears is slightly tousled, his cheeks are a soft shade of pink that runs down his neck and even further. The low-cut of his shirt reveals just a bit more skin than a normal one would. He looks away and spots the coffee machine, where a slightly fresh cup of coffee sits, waiting for him. He walks towards the counter and grabs the cup. He adds sugar and coffee creamer bit by bit until he’s satisfied.
Wilson waits a few minutes before turning around to leave the kitchen. When he’s about to turn the corner he calls out to Luca, who’s busy finding ingredients to make a quick dinner. “The ears,” He motions at his head,”They’re cool, and uh really soft,” He locks eyes with Luca, who just smiles at him, responding with a quick, “Thanks!”. Wilson responds with a small yeah, that’s muffled by the cup as he takes a sip before finally heading to his room.
As soon as he sits in his chair, he places the cup to the side and smacks (lightly pops) his head against the desk. Finding out that his roommate— who also happens to be the guy he has feelings for— has cat ears and fucking purrs, was not something Wilson was prepared for. He can’t get the image of a blushing and purring Luca out of his head. He can feel his chest tighten and if he wasn’t trying his hardest not to, he’d probably let his thoughts wander into dangerous territory. The thought from earlier comes back, if it was anyone else the same thing would have happened. He sighs before raising his head and staring at the blank monitor before him, he’s got work to catch up on and he’ll be damned if he lets this distract him.
