Silent

Summary:

A brief retelling of one moment in episode 11 from Ibuki’s perspective

Notes:

I don’t even know what I’ve written :v
I didn’t write this with much intention and this is heavily unbeta-ed, so don’t expect too much :’)

Work Text:

Shima is definitely planning something. Those eyes tell that, the eyes of someone who is secretly hiding something that cannot be told to anyone. There is no clear evidence, but my intuition says that things might go wrong if I don’t act right now. If Shima knew this, he would say that I should get rid of that idiotic, unfounded thought. But Shima has never strongly opposed my senses, he believes me, to some extent. Should I believe in him too? But the feeling of uncertainty is still burning my gut. I believe in my instinct, as always. If that can prevent something going wrong, it would be better than doing nothing, isn’t it? I asked for help from Itomaki, surprisingly he accepted right away. This reminds me of the first time we met, he put a tracking device in my hoodie. No joke—that really pissed me off. If Shima finds out that I did this, will he be mad too? Possibly. Well but I don’t have any other choice, if he doesn’t tell me, I will find it out by myself.

The question is: how do I sneak this into his belongings without being caught? Shima is a cautious and guarded detective, I might get caught before I can do anything. Maybe an argument can work. I will make him exasperated, he will be distracted and Itomaki can do the last job! Genius!!

A mocking smile, a provocation, that might be enough. Why doesn't Shima act? In contrast, his attitude looks…calmer than usual. What is going on in his mind?

“I just offer to transfer you back to Okutama.”

“Eh?”

What did he just say? Am I mishearing? It can’t be like that, isn’t it? In the middle of our investigation? Maybe Shima has his own reason, he will tell me now. Or it just might be a joke.

“The captain asked me to keep an eye on you. There will be a transfer this September…ARGH.”

I just punched him. Right in his face. Before I can actually think anything. So he is serious. He really means it.
Transfer? At this moment of time? And he said that with the most nonchalant attitude ever? Am I not worth going side by side with you? Am I not worth enough to support you in this case? You also don’t need me anymore?
I cannot understand it. What is going on in his mind, what is he intending to do, what is the reason behind his actions, I cannot understand at all. I know that I'm just a simple-minded guy like he’s used to saying and a complicated person like him is the type I couldn’t comprehend. This uncomfortable feeling inside me is as unintelligible as it is. If words cannot explain, then just deal with it by fists like real men.

“At least say before you punch me.” He said.

That damn smiling face makes me even more exasperated, as if he didn’t bat an eye on what’s just happened. Enough. I can't stand his arrogant attitude anymore. I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him up.

“Then why don’t you counter back?”

Please, answer me. Answer me with what’s really inside your head, answer me with your true intention.

“Don’t need to. Take your hands off me.”

As he spoke, Shima pushed my hand away. Oh, so that is his final answer. Guess there is nothing more than I can do. I let go of his collar and didn't ask any more questions. There is no use at all. This guy won’t answer me, even when the sky falls down.
Itomaki handed him the bag that had fallen from his hand when I punched him. He grabs his belongings, responding with gratitude and then leaving without a second of hesitation. Shima didn't look back. Not even once.
My eyes follow his figure.
In the end, my plan was completed, in the worst possible way.
