Work Text:
The sun was shining brightly, the cool water making slight ripples when fish and other creatures swam by. On Top of a big grey rock with a flat-ish top, sat a cookie.
As the former heir to a throne far far from here, Magenta Gem Cookie was just lying back on that rock, relaxing. What else did he have to do anyway?
The wind was calmly blowing through his pink hair, the sun was on the verge of setting, and everything was peaceful. That is, until Magenta saw a raft in the distance.
He could just barely make out that there was a cookie on the raft, so he decided to swim towards it.
I mean, what's the harm in drowning this random cookie?
He dived down just deep enough into the water to not be spotted. Or at least he thought.
As Magenta got closer, he started to hear the other cookie speak.
“Oh, I completely agree that my idea is just pointless and DUMB.” The cookie seemed to be…talking to himself. In a weird way. The cookie wouldn't stop rambling on about proving his friend's wrong and always being right.
Magenta decided to swim around the raft, circling it, but not realizing the ripples he was creating.
The cookie on the raft stopped talking, making Magenta stop his movements as well.
The cookie sat down on his raft, and seemed to be waiting for something.
Magenta froze, not knowing what to do. Should I just talk to him…?
“Awh…Why'd you stop now?” The cookie said, although sounding like he wasn't talking to himself…
Magenta wasn't just torn, but also just generally confused now as well.
The cookie sighed, “You stopped swimming around me? I just wanted to ask you a question.”
After a moment of consideration, he decides to finally surface, resting his arms on the edge of the cookie's raft.
“So…I assume you saw me?” Magenta asks the cookie through a sigh.
The cookie sat in front of him, looking down to meet his pale pink eyes. “You weren't exactly subtle.”
Ah. Maybe he wasn't that good at hiding.
“Well…Then I suppose I'll have to work on that, huh?”
There's a slightly awkward silence that stretches on for a couple minutes before Magenta speaks up again,
“So…you said you had a question?”
The cookie perks up, reminded of his original reasoning for being here, “Oh! Right!”
Magenta waits patiently…well sort of patiently as he watches the cookie move over towards the bag on the raft, searching through it for something.
“So, how do you feel about getting sawed in half?”
Before Magenta can respond to the absurd question, he's being pulled up onto the raft and stuck in a sack. He blacks out.
~☆~
When Magenta Gem comes to, he's instantly blinded by bright white stage lights, forcing him to cover his eyes. Once his eyes get used to the light, he realizes he's on a giant stage.
“Welcome, One and All, to my grand play! Starring me, Shadow Milk Cookie~!” The cookie from the raft, Shadow Milk, says, before continuing, “As the lead role in a production written and directed by moi, ‘The Very Real Assasination Of The Random Siren I Found And Cookienapped.’ He finishes with a bow.
“Wait- What?!” Magenta yells standing up, a bit wobbly and not used to being in his land form.
“Oh my witches…Shadow Milk, you idiot, we told you not to get a real one!” A white and gold colored cookie said.
“Well- It's not my fault it's still alive, Mystic Flour!” Shadow Milk yells back, putting his hands on his hips.
“Actually- Yes it literally is.” An orange cookie with a blindfold on adds.
Wait a minute are these…?
The Beasts?!
Just then, through all the arguments, a blue and purple cookie with a star on her shoulder gestures to the exit, suggesting that Magenta should probably escape while he still can.
Just as Magenta turned and started to walk away he hears a voice redirecting it's attention towards him,
“Aaaaanndd just where do you think you're going?!” Shadow Milk asks, now facing him.
Magenta turns around his eyes meeting the mismatched blue ones.
“Uhm…anywhere but here?”
He probably shouldn't have said that. But it's too late now.
“Shadow Milk, just let the rip-off-mermaid go.” A yellow and light orange cookie with bee wings says, rolling her eyes, before her shoulders are grabbed and shaken by a rainbow cookie.
“No no no no!! I want to see him get SAWED IN HALF!!!” The rainbow cookie says.
“I'm not going to let it go!” Shadow Milk yells at the both of them with a groan.
“I'm not an ‘it’, but okay…” Magenta mutters under his breath, just barely audible.
“Don't talk back to me PROP!”
With a deep breath, Shadow Milk continues, “Now, if there are no further interruptions, MYSTIC FLOUR.” He says, side-eyeing her.
“Hey- Sorry to uh interrupt, but could you…not saw me in half? Thanks.” Magenta says, deliberately interrupting him and backing away slightly.
Shadow Milk groans again, “Why did I have to get one that talks so much?!”
“That's exactly what I thought when I saw your stupid little raft in the water.” Magenta retorts, crossing his arms.
After another moment of silence, Shadow Milk's expression turns…oddly happy?
“You know what…? I like you. You're too fun to saw in half. You may stay here and work as my assistant instead.” He said, more of a statement than an offer.
Magenta would've turned down his offer…but it was probably better than the previous life he was living.
So, thus his new life began, as the theater assistant to The Beast Of Deceit…and maybe more.
