Chapter Text

Cazador was an odd child, he often stayed back at Kara-Tur at Kozakura. Helping his family and staying in the village, leaving when only to visit a family relative that lived a little far, yet he craved to leave for, at least even if it was just three days. So when his Aunt, Donnela Szarr, asked him if he wanted to accompany her on her trip to ‘Fontaine’ in a far away land for a week. He accepted.

He had asked her on what her duty was in the place of ‘Fontaine’ she had responded that she had some business with a place known as ‘The House of the Hearth’ an orphanage for those children in the area of ‘Fontaine’ which he then asked about on what type of business she had there. Donnela told him it was a meeting with the ‘Mother’ of the house. Crucabena, she called her. Cazador thought it was a strange name but he couldn’t bare to say that, after all, who was he to judge when others mocked his name…

When they finally got there, the place was amazing, bigger and yet Cazador felt shock. He had never been near anywhere like this in his whole life! He had always been a small town person, the village he lived at was small, very small in fact. So it was nice seeing so many people, just being so different. He was also shocked how many people were there, thankfully… Donnela claimed him down. Reassuring him that it’s alright to be a little overwhelmed and that he needed time to take deep breaths and exhaled, which shockingly worked for him.

When they were getting ready for bed, Donnela had spoken. “When I go to The House of the Hearth, would it be alright if you were to try and talk to the orphans?” She asked, not forcefully, but rather… Softly, as if it was a request, it made him feel safer with her, even if they were usually distant… “Of course! I-i can do that…” He spoke both hesitantly and confidently. Donnela chuckled, he was slightly embarrassed before she ruffled his hair. “Don’t get worked up, you’ll do great I’m sure.” Donnela spoke with a smile as he nodded. Of course, he would do fine, especially with as a child with social anxiety that he wasn’t aware of at the time.

The next morning when Donnela and Cazador headed over to The House of the Hearth. Donnela had decided to introduce Cazador to Crucabena.

Donnela knocked on the door as Crucabena answered. “Oh! Donnela, dear! Come on in! Delightful to have you!” As they entered and sat down across Crucabena, she took notice of Cazador, of course. “Oh and who is this young man?” “This is my nephew, Cazador Szarr. I brought him along to try and get along with the orphans to keep him company while we have our little meeting.” Crucabena chuckled, she seemed opened to the idea. “My my! Well don’t let him keep waiting, let him go have fun!” Crucabena spoke with a smile. Donnela gestured to Cazador that he could run off, as long not to cause mischief.

It had been so long since. It was sunset and Cazador was wondering the field near The House of the Hearth. He wanted to watch the sunset and found the perfect tree, as he climbed the tree a bit clumsy, he had heard a voice. “Why are you climbing like that?” A young girl asked while sitting on a tree branch. He shrugged as he managed to sit down on the tree branch below her’s on the other side. “I don’t usually climb trees…” He mumbled, the girl had white hair with black streaks. She had black eyes and Red Crosses as her pupils. Cazador was quiet, he hadn’t spoke to anyone so he might as well try now… “So… What’s your name?” He sheepishly asked as she looked at him before looking at the ground and answering. “My name is Peruere… And you are?”

“Cazador Szarr…” He spoke quietly but enough for her to hear. She then asked. “Are you also a new orphan…?” She asked as he jolted a bit, his heart pounding. “O-oh n-no. My aunt is just here for a meeting with Crucabena…” He spoke sheepishly, he was so nervous. Peruere then sighed. “I see…” Cazador sighed, he was ruining this conversation! He then looked over at her and held his hand out. “Why don’t you sit next to me and we could watch the sunset together?” He asked as she seemed to be shocked, but she held his hand and managed to sit right next to him. He noticed her hand seemed like she had a curse but he stayed quiet. Not wanting to ask about her problems.

As they watched the sunset together. Cazador then looked at Peruere and asked. “Wanna be… Acquaintances?” He asked as she raised an eyebrow. “You mean… Friends?” He looked nervous as he nodded. She nodded back. He sighed and then asked. “You seem lonely…” “I don’t like talking to people…” Peruere spoke as Cazador responded. “Yeah… Me too…”

They stayed quiet for a bit before finally Cazador spoke. “Hey… When we grow older, let’s try and meet each other again, okay?” Silence before Peruere spoke. “Okay…”
