Work Text:
Park Byung Soo loved being in power. He absolutely love having a higher power position then Yoo Shi Jin that curd bastard of a pup.
When he received the position as Battalion commander he enjoys the respect that was granted by those underneath him. He like that he could tell those men that didn't do a good job to run laps around the military base as punishment and a self-satisfaction since he couldn't exactly beat that Captain Yoo looks.
Byung Soo has fought and crawled his way up the ladder. He always had a conception to avoid liability and responsibilities so that his record would be spotless. He had a goal he wanted to be a General and perhaps have a brilliant and hot wife as a spouse that would earn him recognition and political clout in the army.
Yet he was jealous of Captain Yoo that was below him in ranks. That absurd bastard of a man, whom got into West Point had the gall to strut around the place like he owned it. The stupid man always with his minions brought him great headaches and had a reputation for disobeying regulations to the point of in sub ordinance. Byung Soo hated the man especially now, the nuisance got away because he was handsome and smart. He was vexed especially, since it was under his command that the idiot decided to still disarm the active missiles that were in Uruk. Normally according to protocol it would be the United States job to disarm the missiles. What if something happens and one of their own suffered greatly from being blown up. The paperwork he would suffer for this peace mission gone awry.
NO matter how much he tells that dumb man to stop it the guy seem to derive pleasure in spoiling his plans for advancement. However, when news of Yoo Shi Jin and Seo Dae Young came as kill in action he couldn't say that he wasn't stumped.
The bane of his existence was gone...the feeling of dissatisfaction came along with a small factor of grief. Byung Soo realize that his comrades as he now consider them wouldn't be there to give him grief. He didn't know what to say and the worse part was everyone knew about Captain Yoo's supposed girlfriend.
He never did like Kang Mo Yeon or Doctor Kang as he refers to her. Yet he did admire that she is a strong woman and he could see her appeal. Byung Soo could admit he was envious that Seo Dae Young and Yoo Shi Jin had doctor girlfriends and that they were quite pretty. He would admit he daydreams of being with Yoon Myung Joo since she was the Generals daughter, but he knew the rumors of the transfers of Dae Young and the constant hassles going on. He would be inviting more headaches if he did date that woman.
Now both his pain in the asses were dead and he was just glad he wasn't the one breaking the news to Myung Joo. He had seen that woman hit men before even if they are higher rank. Byung Soo didn't know how close the relationship was between Doctor Kang and Shi Jin.
Byung Soo never enjoyed the part of meeting the families to significant loves of men that died underneath him. It would be painful watching their grief and dealing with it. He had been yelled at before when he announce to a widow of her husband’s death.
The black eye he bared with in the face of her grief. Now he wasn't sure on Doctor Kang's reaction instead like a coward he sent Sergeant Choi in hopes that a familiar face would help her.
The announcement from the teammate of Alpha Team to his subordinates and the fast pace grapevine of the army immediately arrived quickly on her reaction.
The words passed on from Sergeant Choi were...
"I thought I would never consider Doctor Kang as able to have emotions when it comes to our Captain Yoo. I was wrong. I watch her eyes fill with tears and inwardly I felt like crying. She is a pushy woman that drove me nuts during the Uruk mission. She also was the same woman that caused the Captain a lot of trouble. I can see that her feelings for our Captain are sincere. I acknowledge that she is a sister in law even though she isn't married to Captain Yoo. I grieve with her but all I could do is stand there and watch after I handed over the letter. I regret--that I could have been a good friend for her in Uruk if I was then I could hold her and let her cry. I feel I failed our Captain in this regard."
Byung Soo didn't know what to do he would be heading to see Doctor Kang at her address. Shi Jin had updated her address as to those that are alerted to his demise. The other was his father and Byung Soo knew that Mr. Yoo was the only one left in that small family of his. His wife passed on and now his son he could imagine the pain that must be going through anyone that is a parent of a child that was lost in war.
The military was cruel in the sense of not acknowledging the contribution of soldiers that did black operations. They have to make up information to justify the deaths. It was painful. However, Yoo Shi Jin wanted Mo Yeon to know what happen to him.
To do that he need to have her sign a NDA a non-disclosure agreement , also known as a confidentiality agreement so that he can release information to her and to prevent any information to be leaked out.
Byung Soo sat in the living room and views the pale face of Doctor Kang her eyes were wet and filled with tears. He wasn't sure how she would take the information. "A week from today, we will make an official announcement that Sergeant Major Dae Young and Captain Yoo Shi Jin will have died in a car accident during a training exercise." He set the clipboard with the NDA in front of Doctor Kang, her hand tighten in her lap. Continuing in a soft voice he said, "We need you to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. We ask for your cooperation."
The tear slid down Mo Yeon face and he felt his throat bunch up. He was trained never to make a woman cry, but already he knew that there was an injustice asking a civilian to sign after she is suffering through grief.
It was too soon, but to prevent security leaks and goodness knows what Shi Jin told her.
Mo Yeon voice came out snapping his focus, "Did his death...help save any lives?
"Yes. It did." Byung Soo straightens himself and said with conviction. This woman deserves respect for what her lover provided.
Mo Yeon voice came again, "Did his death...help to preserve peace in a certain area?"
Byung Soo nods, "Yes, it did." Whatever, Captain Yoo and his partner in crime went they always ensure that someone was saved and there was peace by their actions.
"Did his death...serve his country?" Mo Yeon voice came almost like a breeze.
"Yes. He did." Byung Soo could reaffirm what his men had done.
The sharpness of Mo Yeon words cut into him next, "And yet his country requires me to sign this paper."
Swallowing hard his Adams apple bobbed at the pain in her voice, "I apologies."
The tears started to flow and he could only watch over her doing his duty, "What is it with you? Why choose a life...with an end like this? Why are even your deaths a secret?" Her fingers shook as she picked up the pen and lean forward, "I hope that what I am about to do...is what you'd want me to do. Captain Yoo."
Watching her sign the document and crying like a widow, broke something in Byung Soo. Her words defined the bond that she held with the decease soldier, no his comrade and he wonder if one day--he would find a woman of such standing. Would he also be placing her in such a position?
Could he send another like him in his place to inform his future spouse of his demise? He could say he envy Captain Yoo. This doctor was a powerful and beautiful woman and he understood why that man before defended her. Could he protect her with his utmost abilities?
Byung Soo acknowledges the love in between the two. Captain Yoo was willing to blacken his record for this woman. He was willing to disobey command and the blue house just to save this woman. He acknowledges the sacrifices that this man did in the face of love.
AND-now he acknowledge the sacrifice and the chains that the military put upon a strong woman as Kang Mo Yeon and yet he respected her because she understood in a way what they work for...and he hope to find someone like her.
Willing to accept what they had to do...and what may occur.
Bowing after taking the NDA he slowly stood, he gesture for his man and handed over the NDA and presented a notebook with phone numbers. "If you need anything--that we can provide...inside possess my number and Captain Yoo Shi Jin's team. Salute!" He then faces the door and could hear the sobbing coming from behind him but he left one foot in front of another.
To give the woman privacy.
Byung Soo didn't mention inside the notebook also had information of where Captain Yoo last mission was...in hopes to give the woman closure.
He clenches his teeth as he sat in the car; he had provided that tidbit to her and even gave some leeway to Alpha Team to tell her information on how Captain Yoo died. He didn't want to do it, he wasn't that close to Doctor Kang or Captain Yoo but he also wanted to ensure that the team would look after this widow, because that is what Mo Yeon was...a Widow of an honorable man.
