Work Text:
It’s a peaceful day in Smiling valley, and Kickin Chicken was hanging out on a hillside, lying down with his boyfriend, holding hands and watching the clouds.
(Bubba doesn’t have hands, but whatever)
“Haha, that one looks like a birthday cake.”
Kickin says, pointing at a cloud.
Bubba smiles. “Yeah,” he says. “That one looks like an airplane.”
Kickin nods. “Yeah!”
He says. “Look at it fly!”
After watching it for a while, Kickin sighs softly.
“Sometimes I wish I could fly…”
He says, looking a bit sad.
Bubba looks over at him. “Really…?”
Kickin nods. “I mean I am a bird…” he says.
“I’ve tried to fly a couple of times, but no matter how hard I flap my arms, I can never get off the ground…”
Bubba nods sadly.
“I see…”
Kickin shrugs.
“But, oh well, guess I'm just meant to stay on the ground.”
Bubba smiles a bit. “Maybe…”
They both were silent after that, Kickin looking up at the clouds and trying to see what shapes he could make out.
Meanwhile, Bubba was formulating a plan of his own.
~The next day~
Bobby was taking a walk on the beach, when she passed by Bubba’s house.
She noticed that he appeared to be working on a new invention, made out of pipes and old fabric, and currently welding two metal pipes together.
“Hi Bubba!”
She says, walking up . “What are you doing?”
Bubba stops welding, lifting his mask up.
“I’m building a hang glider.”
He says.
Crafty tilts her head. “Why?”
Bubba smiles. “It’s for Kickin.” he says.
“He really wants to fly, so I'm helping make his dream come true.”
Bobby’s eyes sparkle.
“Awww!”
She says, clasping her hands together. “That’s so sweet!”
Bubba giggles.
“Well, you know.” He says. “I love seeing Kickin happy.”
Bobby giggles.
“Yeah, I know.” She smiles softly.
“I’m sure he’ll love it.”
Bubba looks at his project.
“I sure hope so…”
He says, before getting back to welding.
~the next day~
Kickin was sleeping in his haybed, when he heard a knock at the door which awoke him from his slumber.
Grumbling, he slowly gets up, going to answer it.
When he does, he sees it was Bubba, looking at him with a big smile.
“Oh, good morning, babe.”
He says, rubbing his eyes. “What brings you here?”
Bubba gently takes his hands.
“I have a surprise for you!”
He says.
Kickin instantly lights up.
“A surprise?”
Bubba nods.
“Yeah, follow me!”
He says, starting to lead him off.
Kickin was confused, but excited.
~Le transition~
When they got closer to the surprise, Bubba had Kickin cover his eyes, gently guiding him, until they arrived at the destination.
“Okay, open up!”
Kickin uncovers his eyes, opening them.
There was a hang glider, made entirely of old welded-together pipes and doubly stitched together and reinforced old fabric.
“Wow, Bubs, this is cool!”
Kickin says, going to examine it. “What is it?”
“It’s a hang glider, silly!”
Bubba says.
“Now you can finally fly!”
Kickin stares at it for a few minutes, speechless.
“Um… Kickin?”
Bubba says, a bit worried.
Not 2 seconds later was he engulfed by Kickin tackle-hugging him.
“You’re the BEST, Bubs!”
He says, burying his face in his boyfriend’s shoulder.
Bubba smiles, hugging back. “Well, I try to be.”
Kickin pulls back and tries to kiss him, but is once again stopped by his trunk getting in the way
They laugh as Bubba moves it, then Kickin kisses him passionately on the lips, wrapping his arms around Bubba’s neck.
Bubba returns it, wrapping his arms around Kickin’s waist.
The couple happily make out for a moment or two, then pull back to look at the hang glider.
Bubba smiles.
“So, wanna take it for a test flight?”
Kickin nods. “You know I do!”
~Flying transition~
Working together, the two carried the hang glider all the way up to the highest hill in the valley, sunset point.
They stood a running distance back from the edge, then looked at each other.
“Okay, ready…?”
Bubba asks.
Kickin nods, steely determination in his eyes.
“Ready!”
Bubba nervously takes some deep breaths.
“Okay… on 3.”
He says, looking forward.
“One… two… THREE!”
The two of them start running, closer and closer to the edge of the cliff…
Till they reach the end, and jump.
The wind caught the hang glider, lifting them up higher and higher.
They both go “WOAHHHH!” as the wind takes them up into the sky, flying like two connected birds.
When they were gliding on the wind, they both started to calm down a bit.
As they looked over the whole valley, Kickin’s eyes sparkled.
“Man, it looks so different from up here…”
He says. “All the houses are so small…”
Bubba nods. “Mhm…”
He says calmly.
“So, do you like it?”
He says, glancing over to him.
Kickin smiles, glancing over to Bubba.
“Are you kidding?!” he says. “This is the best day I've ever had!”
Bubba giggles. “Glad you think so.”
Kickin scoots closer to kiss him on the cheek, making him blush.
“Thank you so much, Bubs.” he says. “You’re the best.”
Bubba smiles softly. “Anything for you, Kickin.”
He moves his trunk to give him a kiss on the head.
“You make my heart soar.”
