The sun radiated warm light over the horizon. Waves crashed into the shore creating sort of a white noise. And after trespassing into the empty beach, it felt as if the sight of orange reflected onto clear waters and the closed gift shops that would otherwise be full were meant just for them.
Rantaro bolted forward and Shuichi trailed behind, the two linked by hand. When the couple found a good spot to relax, they kneeled down, beads of sand coating their shins.
“Shuichi. S’your first time fishing, right?” He smiled—something behind it like always, as if he was hiding the real reason he knew how to sneak into places.
“And sneaking places," he snickered. It didn’t feel like he deserved moments like this, but Rantaro made him believe he might. “Will we end up caught? My uncle will kill me.” It was a dumb comment just for the sake of conversation. No rules felt broken as long as Rantaro’s hand was in his.
“Don’t worry, my love—“ Shuichi’s heart still warmed at that name. My love. “—it’s not like we’re being indecent. Unless you wanna be? But for now, we’re just fishing.”
Rantaro grabbed two rods and handed one to Shuichi. “So, cast it out.”
Shuichi sat up straight, a little nervous as his lover demonstrated.
“Then, hold down the button here with your thumb and pull back while you do that. And you gotta watch and listen for this part— move the rod forward and take your thumb off at the same time.”
“Rantaro, I got something!”
A soft smile graced Rantaro’s face. “Okay, now push the button and put your thumb on the spool.”
A green bass clung onto the hook. “Damn, Shuichi, that thing’s huge for your first fish!”
Shuichi looked at Rantaro while he analyzed the fish. It was moments like these when he was so off-guard that revealed how… beautiful he is. Well, obviously Shuichi knows his boyfriend is beautiful. He can learn that by simply looking at him. But his beauty felt like a relentless tsunami that overpowered the natural waves of love he always felt towards the gorgeous boy.
“Shuichi?” Rantaro looked up at his boyfriend. “Been quiet.”
“Rantaro… I love you.”
Rantaro planted a kiss onto his lips. Originally meant to be short, but Shuichi just kept leaning in until they were laying on the ground, unaware of their surroundings and fully making out. Rantaro pulled away just an inch, replying with—
“I love you more, Shuichi.”
He didn’t know how long moments like this would last, but for now, the ocean was quiet, and Rantaro was his.
