Hoshi doesn't understand her.
Why is she crying like this?
Why is she asking these unnecessary questions?
Saying these very untrue things?
Her breathing was so shallow, they could barely hear it.
Her voice was choked. Quiet.
Quiet in a way that they’ve never heard.
Aika is loud, and cheerful.
It almost hurt them physically to see her reduced to tears.
“Aika, if you weren't strong, do you really think I would've chosen you?”
The girl quieted down, just a little.
“To be the Star Guardian, you have to be strong, and have a good heart.”
Aika has a good heart.
Kind, and strong.
One of the strongest Hoshi’s ever known.
Even with that, Aika still seemed upset.
Why?
They had no idea, but still, they moved closer to Aika with their light.
“My girl, you're very strong. You're radiant, and you grow. You have grown, and you still are growing.”
Their attempt at comfort felt more like a pep talk.
“You are a good person, and I’ve never doubted it.”
Their small form became brighter.
Just to warm her up.
Their wings extended.
Just a little, just so Aika could feel a little safe.
Just because they care.
So much.
