Work Text:

“Hey Joonghyuk-ah can you read the ingredients list for me?” Kim Dokja asked his boyfriend, handing a noodle packet to him.

He waited in anticipation as Yoo Joonghyuk looked up from what he was doing. He took the packet, one that had a very tiny label, and then came the moment of truth: he took out his reading glasses from his pocket.

Kim Dokja suppressed a smile as he stared at the man looking through the list, at the way his eyes darted from left to right. It wasn’t anything weird- well it was completely weird but Kim Dokja would insist it wasn’t- but he really adored how Yoo Joonghyuk looked when he wore glasses. He recently got them and Kim Dokja wished he was short-sighted instead. There were a lot of things unfair in his life but he felt like this was the worst, why did his boyfriend have to be prescribed reading glasses and only read things once in a blue moon?

And ever since he received them, Kim Dokja would consistently give random things for Yoo Joonghyuk to read. Books didn’t work, the man hated books, so he stuck to ingredients lists and food labels, even if they were quick to read. He stared intently at the man’s eyes, the piercing shape of them amplified by the rectangular frames, he looked like a model.

He was brought back to reality when Yoo Joonghyuk took his glasses off and handed the packet back, saying it was very unhealthy and he’ll cook him something from scratch. Kim Dokja’s eyes lit up when he had an idea.

“Can you make me something you’ve never cooked before?”

He lifted a brow. “Why?”

“I want to see the perfect man struggle for once.”

Yoo Joonghyuk smirked and affectionately tapped Kim Dokja’s head as he got up. “You’re so strange.”

In the kitchen, Kim Dokja sat at the table and watched Yoo Joonghyuk prepare lunch. He practically had hearts in his eyes whenever Yoo Joonghyuk would turn to read through the cookbook on the table again. He was surprised there even was a dish that the chef hasn’t cooked before, and didn’t even know if he himself would like the food, but sacrifices had to be made.

He didn’t have to worry too much as Yoo Joonghyuk managed to make anything taste incredible (except for tomatoes.)

“I guess trying new dishes isn’t so bad,” the man muttered.

Kim Dokja smiled at him.

Later that night, he resumed his plan. Yoo Joonghyuk was using his laptop at his desk, and Kim Dokja slumped in front of him like a cat.

“Joonghyuk-ah my eyes hurt, can you read to me?” He asked with extra pleading eyes.

The taller sighed. “I thought you said you hate audio books.”

“But I like your voice.”

Yoo Joonghyuk turned away from him to hid his flustered face. He took the book from his hands and went to sit at the bed. Kim Dokja happily followed.

As he read through the book, Kim Dokja laid his head on his lap and stared up at him, admiring his gorgeous features. He chuckled a few times when Yoo Joonghyuk would mispronounce a word. At one point, he stopped reading out loud all together but Kim Dokja didn’t notice, just continuing to stare at him.

“If your eyes hurt then why don’t you close them?”

Kim Dokja panicked and shyly leaned closer to him. “Uhm… they’re fine now,” he mumbled.

“Then you read.”

He sat upright and shook his head, pushing the book towards the man. “I like the way you read it!”

“I don’t know how to pronounce these names and I give the characters monotone voices even when they’re screaming.”

“That’s part of the charm,” he desperately insisted.

Yoo Joonghyuk sighed, shutting the book and putting it down to forget about entirely. He grabbed Kim Dokja’s chin and rested his forehead against his, staring into his eyes.

“I can see your face more clearly now.”

Kim Dokja went completely red and couldn’t respond.

“Do you like the way I look with glasses or something?”

“I- WHAT NO THAT’S WEIRD- UHM-“

Yoo Joonghyuk let out a quiet chuckle, and refused to let the man move away, tightening his grip. “Liar.”

“Y-you look good in anything-

“Answer my question.”

Kim Dokja wished the ceiling would suddenly collapse and crush him, but that didn’t happen. Why was the universe against hurting him now of all times? He gulped and leaned a bit back.

“You look like a nerd.”

Yoo Joonghyuk glared at him and Kim Dokja giggled, falling onto his shoulder.

“You just look so cute, okay? And smart… and…” He got embarrassed again and mumbled against his clothes.

The taller just patted his head. “You really are strange.”

He grumbled. “I bet you’re into weirder things.”

“You’re right since I’m into you.”

Kim Dokja gasped offended and Yoo Joonghyuk smiled at him again.

He pouted. “Well, there’s one thing I hate about your glasses.”

“What?”

He smiled, taking them off him then kissing him quickly. “They get in the way.”

Yoo Joonghyuk gave him a flat stare, then grabbed him and kisses all over his face.

“STOP!” Kim Dokja exclaimed, overwhelmed by the attention.

Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t listen and continued showering him in affection.

“Do you want to know what I’m into?” He murmured between the kisses, “Seeing you happy and loved.”

“What kind of unrealistic freak shit-“

He chuckled when Yoo Joonghyuk just kissed his cheek more aggressively. The shorter rolled his eyes and finally managed pushed him away. Then, he looked over the glasses on his lap and tried them on.

“Stop, you’ll hurt your eyes,” Yoo Joonghyuk scolded.

“Just tell me how I look.”

“The frames are too small. You need bigger ones for your giant eyes.” He took them off him.

Kim Dokja slumped.

“Your cute giant eyes,” he corrected.

He chuckled and hugged him.

“Can I send you selfies of me in glasses instead of you forcing me to read things?”

“Y-you don’t need to- I mean if you want to then sure I don’t care…” He played off casually, very casually. He was so normal about it.

The next day Kim Dokja kicked his feet and squealed at all the photos Yoo Joonghyuk sent him.
