David Rose knew about soulmates, just as many people did , afterall it was common public knowledge.
A soulmate was a special person who an individual was supposed to be perfect for…their ideal romantic partner. They were someone who an individual was supposed to one day meet and spend the rest of their lives with.
David had never met his soulmate before but apparently a person’s soulmate was revealed to an individual through their dreams. The dreams would be about what their soulmate would experience the day after, these dreams could start at any age after both soulmates had reached eighteen years old. Individuals wouldn’t dream of their soulmate’s entire day but random experiences their soulmate would have, the soulmates would be able to remember the dream clearly as though they had actually been there with their soulmate but they could not interact and they could not speak to their soulmate, they could only watch.
David didn’t believe it would happen to him, that he would dream of the person meant for him. Sure, in the past he had hopes, he had wanted to one day meet his soulmate, he had and sometimes even now yearned for them but now at thirty-one years old he had given up on thinking that he would ever have the dreams.
Often David wondered what kind of person his soulmate would be, what they would look like, if this person would like him. When he did this, worries would creep into his mind.
He hadn’t had much luck with romance in the past afterall, most of his relationships had been casual sex, people using him for his family’s money and people who couldn’t accept him for him once they got to know him better. His soulmate was supposed to be better than anyone else David had dated before, they were supposed to be special but David was certain that they would never meet. Certainly, if it was going to happen it would have already happened.
One night it finally happened, one night he dreamt of a man he was certain he had never met before and just like what he knew of soulmate dreams he could not interact with the other man.
The other man seemed young, maybe around his late twenties and he was quite attractive. The man was of average height, just a bit shorter than David was and he looked to have a fit but slender build. The man wore black glasses, had short, messy black hair, beautiful green eyes and had a unique scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt.
In this first dream all this other man did was read a book, watch TV for a while before eating some kind of a sandwich.
The dream was completely normal, just an attractive man doing normal, everyday things and yet David hadn’t found it boring. If anything, when he awoke, he found himself wanting to return to the dream, wanting to watch the man go about his day.
The dream had been vivid, he had been able to see everything clearly, could hear everything as though he was really there with the man, and afterwards could remember everything that happened in the dream as though it was a memory rather than a dream.
The following night he dreamt of the man again, watching the man go about his day. This time he dreamt of the man working a shift at a restaurant, in the dream David couldn’t help the twinge of jealousy whenever customers would flirt at the man.
The night after that, he dreamt of the man going grocery shopping.
After a week of dreaming of the man David realized that these dreams he had been having must be the soulmate dreams he had heard so much about. He smiled at that, a happy feeling washing through his, he wiped away some happy tears and looked forward to the dream he would have that night.
That night David paid special attention to their surroundings in the dream, he couldn’t interact with his soulmate or touch him…none of the soulmate dreams allowed him to…but maybe he could try to figure out who his soulmate was and where his soulmate lived so they could meet.
Before now he had only paid attention to his soulmate, not caring at all about where they were in the dream. He would just stare at his soulmate…..yearning for him and wishing they could interact in some way.
David blinked with surprise in the dream when he realized there was something very familiar about his surroundings.
They were in a motel.
The motel looked cheap but very familiar, though David, while where he sat on the bed realized that the mattress was far more comfortable than the one he had in his room.
David stood up, he looked around the room properly with an observant gaze, if he ignored his soulmate he could quite easily mistake this room for the one he shared with Alexis.
He went into the kitchen and saw a coaster on the kitchen table that read Schitt’s Creek Motel.
He felt incredibly nervous and happy. His soulmate was living at the same small crappy town as him, living in the same crappy motel as him. When did this happen? When did someone so special move in so near to him? How long had his soulmate been living here? How did David not notice him?! Why hadn’t they met yet?!
David felt annoyed at himself, he returned to his soulmate, he saw that his soulmate was getting ready for something. He was brushing his hair, buttoning up a shirt, cleaning his glasses, putting on a pair of shoes, he looked nervous.
Suddenly there was a knock on his soulmate’s door and he watched his soulmate rush over to it, looking both nervous and excited.
When the door opened David saw himself or rather his dream self standing there.
David’s dream self looked nervous but had a happy smile on his face.
“Hi David” said David’s soulmate.
“Hello…Harry” said the other David. “You…You look good”
Harry smiled, “You do too”
The dream David’s smile grew, David watched, a smile on his own face as he watched the dream David pull Harry into a short kiss on the mouth.
The kiss soon ended, “you ready to go on our first date?” Dream David asked.
Harry nodded.
Dream David and Harry then left together out the door of Harry’s room at the motel and David didn’t know anything more as immediately after he woke up.
David felt annoyed at where the dream had stopped, and yet a sort of happy feeling filled him.
He knew his soulmate’s name now, he knew that his soulmate lived in the same motel as him and he knew that sometime before the events of the dream he was going to meet Harry.
Today he was going to meet his soulmate and go on their first date with him.
David smiled and got out of bed before having a quick shower, brushing his teeth and hair and getting dressed in a pair of black denim jeans, a black t shirt and sneakers. He then went to the reception desk where Stevie Budd was sitting in front of the computer.
“Hey David, morning” greeted Stevie.
“Good morning Stevie, can you tell me if there’s a man named Harry living at the motel?”
Stevie stared at him, “Why?”
“He’s my soulmate, I’ve been dreaming about him. In the dream last night I learnt his name and that he might be living here”
Stevie blinked before nodding, a slight smile on her face, “Sure David, I’ll check right now.”
Stevie focused her attention on the screen in front of her, “Yes…there is a Harry living here actually. Looks like he’s been living here for a month now. His name is Harry Potter, he’s been staying in room five”
David , having being reminded that his soulmate was a neighbour of his…felt again…annoyed at himself for never noticing his soulmate.
“So…when’s the first date then?” asked Stevie.
“Today I think, in the dream we had made plans and I was picking him up. We talked, I kissed him and we left but then I woke up”
“Well…good luck then I guess”
“Thanks” said David again, before then going to Harry’s room and nervously knocking upon the door.
David heard footsteps before the door opened revealing a familiar man, the man he had been dreaming about every single night for a week now.
It was Harry.
For a moment they just stared at each other, recognition and awe showing in their eyes. Harry had always looked good in David’s dreams but he looked even more beautiful in person if that was even possible.
Harry was blushing lightly, a small nervous but happy smile appearing on his face.
“Hi…It’s…It’s you…the man from my dreams…My soulmate,” said Harry.
David nodded. “Yes, and you’re my soulmate. I’m David Rose….Hello” said David with a nervous smile on his face as well.
“I’m Harry Potter….do you….do you want to come in David?”
David nodded again and he went into the motel room, the same familiar room that he had dreamt about.
David was led to Harry’s bed and together they sat down upon it.
“So…what was your dream of me about last night?” asked Harry.
David smiled, “I was picking you up for our first date….and I kissed you”
“I dreamt about the date” Harry said, a smile upon his face, blushing lightly.
“Did I show you a good time? Where will we go?” asked David.
“I had a wonderful time, though it’ll be even better with the real you…We went to the Café Tropical”
“And that’s good enough?”
“It’s perfect David, I’m already looking forward to it”
“Great!” said David. “Would…Would lunch be okay?”
“Lunch sounds great!”
David smiled, “Great!”
Harry then smiled again at David and David pressed his lips to Harry’s in a brief but enjoyable impulsive first kiss. When the kiss ended they were both blushing lightly, smiles on their faces.
“I’ll pick you up in a couple of hours,” said David.
Harry nodded.
David supposed he should leave his soulmate’s motel room, plan what he was going to wear for their first ever date but he didn’t move a muscle. He didn’t want to leave his soulmate’s side just yet.
After a week of dreaming of Harry every single night, unable to speak to him, unable to touch him, unable to interact with him in any kind of way, only able to watch…he wanted to stay just a bit longer.
He felt relieved when Harry pulled him closer for another kiss, this time grasping gently upon David’s shoulders. David smiled into it, bringing his hands to touch at Harry’s face, gently cupping his soulmate’s cheeks with his hands. The kiss deepened as David returned the kiss, the kissing slow and tender at first before turning quite passionate.
They kissed for a while before David returned to his own motel room to get ready for his first date with his soulmate.
