one hell of a something

Work Text:

Their next hangout comes sooner than they had expected.

The adults in their lives still hadn't fully come around. Their friends were but very slowly.

Not that it was a date or anything. They hadn't called it a date anyway. But it's not like they're feelings for each other were a secret. At least not to each other. The people around them might not be as aware

The lack of clarification didn’t exactly stop any nervousness the two might be feeling. Not in the slightest. When Victor had floated up to her bedroom window to steal her away for a while her dad and his aunt were at a conference, Nova didn't just have butterflies in her stomach. She had bats. With teeth

It was the first chance they’d gotten to really be alone since everything

“Do you trust me?”

Yes, she almost says with a little too much fervor. She trusts him more than she should trust someone she's known for this short of an amount of time. But that might be a bit too forward this early.

“Yes.” She says softly. “Why?”

“Because we're going flying.”

She'd admittedly really liked flying with the first time around. It was exhilarating. She definitely doesn't mind doing it again. So she climbs out of her bedroom window and lets him take her into the air.

With their fingers interlaced and the wind in her hair as they fly over Sunnyside, she's never felt better. Especially with the way he's looking at her.

“I know that we’ve established that you trust me. But how much do you trust me?” He grins at her, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Suddenly, they're not just soaring. They're twirling and twisting in the air using some admittedly impressive maneuvers.

She laughs loud enough that she's sure that the people on the ground can hear her.

“Trying to impress me?”

“That depends. Is it working?” She can't see his face with the position they're currently in but she can hear the smile in his voice.

“Maybe a little?”

“Only a little?” He pulls her to her, holding her against his chest. They're practically dancing now even with no ground beneath their feet. “I might've been practicing. But you make a much better partner than Vargas.”

“Well, it's paying off.” She laughs. She barely even notices how they're being slowly lowered down to the ground with how much she's having. “That was so fun. Why'd you stop?”

“Because that's not all I have planned. We’ve got at least a couple of hours until my dad and your aunt gets back. We might as well make the most of it.”

They’d landed in a patch of woodland that didn't look like it was anywhere near either of their villages.

“Where are we?”

“I'm not entirely sure. I found this place a couple years ago. I’d gotten into a fight with my aunt, took off flying, and this was before I fully mastered flying so I might have free fell and crash landed here.”

“Might have?” She raises an eyebrow at him, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Yes. Might have. Anyway, I quickly learned that this place is a pretty good place to get away if you need some time away. Sometimes I come out here to work on my art or when training to be the next leader of the vampires gets to be too much. So I figured it was probably a pretty good place for a date. I mean, a hangout. Unless this is a date to you. Because I-”

She grabs him by his jacket, pulling him to her and pressing her lips to his. It takes about three seconds for him to respond, grabbing her waist and kissing her back.

“You were babbling.” She whispers once they've broken the kiss. Her cheeks are burning hotter than usual. And if not for him smiling at her she might’ve thought she overstepped.

“I really need to do that more often.”
