Work Text:
Pest and Melanie would usually have their own rooms. However, tonight, and for a few more nights likely, they had to share. This was because conviently for the fanfic plot, Melanie's room had somehow flooded. Melanie would have asked, or begged, more accurately, Mozelle to stay over the nights until DrRetro could let her know that her room was nice and fixed. But Mozelle said that she had guests over, so not tonight.
This means that for one night, Melanie had to stay in Pest's room. It can't be that bad, right?
If sleeping in a sleeping bag on the uncomfortable floor isn't bad enough, then Melanie couldn't imagine how it could be worse. Other than the obvious, such as a fire, that creature the whole household hated, Pest's room also being flooded... The list goes on. Can one really sleep comfortably on the floor?
"Stop moving so much and go to sleep." Pest whispers, rolling over himself on the bed. Not much that Melanie could see, as the only light in the room was her own.
"... Your light's annoying me." The beetle soon adds.
"Excuse me?" The bunny rolls again to face Pest's bed, sitting up in the sleeping bag. Pest only mutters the same words again, mostly focused on trying to sleep. "Y-you know I can't sleep without one." Melanie soons says. But her words get ignored. So she took some matters into her own hands, and shuffled to a small lamp in the corner of the room, among some other things Pest has stolen. The TV bunny flicked the lamp on and lied down beside it. It wasn't so bright that it'd interrupt her sleep, but bright enough to calm her from her fear of the dark.
A certain beetle disagreed.
Now like Melanie from earlier, he rolled in his own bed. He eventually settled for having their face just squished against the pillow - or he would if their mandibles didn't get in the way. He grumbled and just threw a small pillow at the lamp - but it ended up hitting Melanie, disrupting her sleep.
"HEY!" Melanie yelled, but soon covered her mouth, since DrRetro was sleeping. Last time they accidentally woke up the katball did not end good. Pest sat up in the bed, rubbing one of his eyes. After staring at eachother for a bit, Pest stood up and switched off the lamp. Melanie looked more than annoyed if anything. 3=<
She was not about to sleep without some light in the room again, nope. Absolutely not. So instead Melanie just stared at Pest, and then cleared her throat.
"What." The beetle sat up in his bed for probably the thousandth time that night.
"I can't sleep without light." Melanie reminded.
The two stared at eachother again. And Pest lied back down- "Hey!" The bunny whisper yelled. The two soon came to an agreement. Pest let some light into the room through the blinds being slightly up, and Melanie would leave Pest alone. Finally, both were happy.
... Until the morning, when Melanie heard soft chittering right next to her. Glancing over, Pest was.... Sleep-chewing? Sleep-eating? Whatever, sleep eating. Pest was sleep eating a bit of the sleeping bag. Melanie let out a way-less-than-quiet noise. Which woke up the katball, yet somehow not the beetle right next to her.
"Mrrow meow mow... (I haven't had my coffee yet, what is...)" DrRetro sleepily says as she walked into the room, seeing both adopted children on the floor, one sitting up, and the other chewing away on the sleeping bag, already having ate away a small hole in it. The katball just sighs, shaking her head as she leaves to make breakfast for the two.
Luckily, Mozelle was more than happy to take Melanie off DrRetro's hands for an indefinite amount of time until Melanie's room was fixed.
