Work Text:

Silco always knew he was never the best looking. He watched as others his age got compliments meanwhile he got weird looks, and disgusted faces. It wasn’t like he exactly cared. Sometimes he just wished someone, anyone would say different.

Then he met him. He was handsome to say the least. A bit older than Silco, but found interest in him. They would meet up a few times a week, mostly at night. During those nights Mikeal would whisper promises to Silco. Promising to help Zaun, to be there for him, to never hurt him.

And what a lie that was. He should’ve known. Why else was Mikeal showing interest in him?

Here Silco was. Sitting in the spare bedroom at The Last Drop. Slowly wrapping bandages around his arms, covering mostly his wrists. He didn’t plan to tell anyone of what happened or what he did, especially  Vander. The thought of Vander looking down on him sickened Silco.

Even the thought of being pitied sickened him. He will be fine. He doesn’t need anyone. He never needed anyone. He already tried enough to need someone. To have that feeling of someone caring for him.

“Silco? Are you here?” Vanders voice broke the silence.

“Yeah, Yeah I am.”

Silco watched as Vander slowly opened the door and stepped inside, the door clicking shut behind him. His eyes never left Silco. It was rare for them to even when others were around.

“What happened?”

He scoffed, what was he even supposed to respond to that with. “Nothing.”

“Clearly not.” Vander raised his eyebrow, concern never left his expression.

Silco used the end of the bed to push himself up off the floor. Crossing his arms he glanced out the window to his left. “We.. Mikeal and I, decided it was best to separate. For the better.”

Out the corner of his eye he saw Vander frown and go towards him. He stiffened when the larger man was a few feet away from him. Silco lowered his gaze, “I’m fine Vander. Don’t worry about me.”

Vanders hand twitched slightly at his side, wanting to reach out. To comfort his friend. “You know I’ll still worry.”

Shrugging, Silco walked around Vander. “I’ll be fine.” He glanced back, “Don’t do anything rash.”

Vander watched Silco leave the room. He was used to Silco not always wanting help from him, but this was different, he didn’t even let Vander try better, or even step close to him. It worried him to no beyond.

Mikeal. That had to be the answer to this situation.

“We.. Mikeal and I, decided it was best to separate. For better.”

“Don’t do anything rash.”

Don’t do anything rash. He didn’t want Vander to speak with Mikeal, for whatever reason. But why not? What could’ve happened that Silco so badly hadn’t wanted Vander to speak with Mikeal.

“I won’t do anything rash, I promise.” Vander whispered to the room. “I’ll just talk to him.”

Luckily that night Mikeal appeared in the Last Drop, he was grinning wide, as if he didn’t just break up with hsi boyfriend. It.. confused and angered Vander. How could he not be even the bit upset over the breakup as Silco so clearly was.

“Ah Vander, give me a shot. Yeah?”

From memory Vander did just that, sliding the glass across the bar to the man sitting in front of him. Tha man took a swing of the shot. He raised a eyebrow seeing Vanders expression.

“What’s got you all upset?” Mikeal asked, putting the glass back down onto the bar.

And at that moment, seeing how uncaring Mikeal was. Vander realized he would rather hear it from Silco. Not from this man who had no care in the world.

“Nothing, just had a bad day.”

“Mm, I get that.” Mikeal nodded. “Hope tomorrows good.”

He stood up and slapped some coins onto the bar, and left the bar. No mention of Silco at all. Only souring Vanders mood more. Not too long after he decided to close The Last Drop early.

That night he laid in bed, the blanked kicked haphazardly to the side. He tried and tried to fall asleep, but he just couldn’t. Not when his mind wouldn’t leave from Silco.

The sound of his door opening caught Vander off guard. He sat up quickly. In the dim lights his eyes made out a figure. Silco.

“Si-“

“Don’t speak. Please.”

And Vander complied. His eyes followed Silco as he climbed into the bed, lying next to Vander. His hand putting slight pressure on Vanders arm, asking him to lay back down. So Vander did. He didn’t utter a single sound as Silco scooted closer to him, resting his head on Vanders chest.

The two men laid there, not speaking a single word to the other. This is what I want, Vander thought as he began falling asleep. He would wait for Silco to tell him, but for now he would enjoy this.
