Chapter Text
Movie night didn't go so well last time, so Kris and Susie were ready to try again. This time, popcorn and sodas to last them for DAYS, and only the best monster movie marathons on the flat-screen that Noelle lent them. Since she didn't use it much, she was happy to let them borrow it for their hangout.
Susie excitedly finished up the last bag of popcorn in the microwave, dumping it all into their massive communal bowl (which Kris knew as the household throw up bowl while Susie had no clue), and jumped over onto the couch next to Kris who had been waiting with 4 two liters of soda on their other side.
"AWW, DUDE! I cannot WAIT! This time, no sleeping, no blinking, don't even LOOK anywhere else, ya got it?? Haha!" She declared, already beginning to shovel popcorn in her mouth while chewing it loudly.
Kris chuckled, they were also quite excited. Things had been chaotic and hectic recently. It was nice to just take a load off. Perhaps there were other, more important things to attend to... But it could wait. Kris was sure the prophecy allocated for fun with friends.
... Maybe.
Kris reached a hand over to the popcorn bowl, brushing against Susie's claws as they fought for dominance over the biggest hunk of popcorn they could. Susie, having much bigger hands of course, grabbed far more than Kris could. Not that they really minded; they were happy to let Susie have some. As long as it meant she ate something that wasn't chalk or flowers.
"Man, this movie was such a good one when it came out! Haha, I remember BEGGING my dad to let me go see it. It was around my birthday, so he ACTUALLY took off time from work and took me to see it. He got us both popcorn with extra butter, a HUGE soda and we snuck in tons of candy. Haha." Susie explained this fun memory in detail, but her expression shifted toward the end of it. She didn't seem so happy all of a sudden.
"...That was uh. Before mom, y'know. Got sick. And stuff." She said, eating more popcorn to avoid talking more. Kris understood a bit more of her homelife now. Obviously, Susie must live with her father. They weren't sure about the part about her mother, though. It seemed like a sore topic, best left for another day.
Kris nodded in understanding, not saying much about the topic anymore as they noticed she was a bit uncomfortable. The air settled between the two finally, and they were silently watching the movie. Susie continually shoved popcorn into her mouth, absentmindedly by this point. Kris took a big chug out of one of the two liters beside them, and handed one over to Susie.
"Crack open a cold one, Susie." They said, their voice sounding monotone as usual to the untrained ear. Susie, however, had learned their mannerisms by this point, and knew that they meant well with most things they said. So, she happily took it and used her filthy, buttery hands to open it. Well... She TRIED to, anyway. Eventually, she had to wipe her hands on her coat and try again.
It cracked open with a delightful 'pop' and fizzed gently beneath her. She tilted the bottle up to her mouth, gulping down a good bit. She let out a sigh of contentment after she drank from it, capping the bottle up again and putting it off to her side now.
Kris audibly heard her stomach grumble. And then...
"BURPPPPPPPPPP."
Susie let out the most ironically monstrous belch, tilting her head back as it washed over her.
"Ough. Nice." She said, matter-of-factly. Kris also thought it was nice and gave a thumbs-up. Susie returned it, smiling, before continuing to eat her popcorn. She shifted positions on the couch, her legs spreading into what could be called a "manspread".
Kris noticed it, and thought it seemed rather comfy as well. They also "manspreaded", which was usually discouraged by Toriel around company. But this was Susie, and Susie was chill. The pair sat, knees touching each other. Neither one seemed to care or notice this small amount of physical contact.
The second movie began, and they were halfway through their popcorn, mostly due to Susie's relentless snacking. Kris had taken a few bites here and there, but was mostly interested in the soda by them. If Toriel knew the two were drinking this much soda... She'd probably take both of them to the hospital for a blood sugar test. Luckily, she was out for the night with that... Bonehead. Kris's face soured at just the thought of that corny skeleton. Susie noticed and looked over, obviously not serious about her line earlier of "not looking anywhere else".
"You alright? Got a burnt piece of popcorn?" She asked, continuing to shovel more popcorn in her mouth. They just shook their head and returned their gaze to the screen. Susie didn't seem satisfied with this. "Well, what's the matter dude?"
Kris just shrugged, and reached over for more popcorn. Susie seemed to understand that they may not wanna talk. She nodded and continued watching.
"Whatever you say, dude." Ironic, as they hadn't said anything.
Susie would lift up her leg eventually, placing it over Kris's lap. Not an uncommon or strange thing for someone to do, they assumed. They simply placed a hand over the leg, holding it there. They didn't mind this physical contact either, it seemed.
Eventually, Susie would be closer to Kris. She claimed it was so they wouldn't have to reach all that way to grab a handful of popcorn, but as far as Kris was concerned they could grab it just fine? Whatever. Kris didn't hate the proximity, and it was just a bit easier to grab it for what few pieces remained. At this point, their hips were against each other, while Susie still had that leg draped over Kris who also kept their hand on the leg. It was resting just below Susie's knee.
The bowl of popcorn was finished. It never stood a chance.
Susie had put the bowl on the ground, and resumed her previous position right next to Kris. Both their eyes were getting heavy, but they combated this fact with even MORE soda. Obviously, the correct strategy. Right?
It would do for now, as they were alert enough to continue on into the third movie. Susie found her head laying on top of Kris's about 20 minutes into the third movie. Kris wasn't suspicious by that point, nor did they care. Susie was welcome in their bubble at the moment. She moved to place an arm over their shoulder. Kris leaned their head over onto her, turning a bit so they could have their back resting against Susie's large form.
The two sat like that through the next 30 or so minutes of the movie, moving every now and then to get comfier.
Then, Susie seemed to realize something.
"...Uh. So. Hey uh..."
Kris's head popped up from their comfy spot and looked up at Susie curiously.
"...So friends can cuddle, right?" She asked, blushing a bit and averting Kris's gaze. Kris looked down at the two of them, realizing exactly what she was talking about, and blushed too. They made no move to get up though, and neither did Susie. "...Well... If YOU'RE okay with it, I guess I am too, haha." She said, with an uncharacteristically shy smile. She was also avoiding eye contact. Kris, to solidify this new revelation that friends can, in fact, cuddle, decided to shift themself to lay across Susie's lap. Susie chuckled, looking down at them.
"Dude, what are you doing?" She asked, playfully. They shrugged, smiling up at Susie. Susie reached a hand down, having since cleaned the butter off of it, and ruffled through their hair. She saw their eyes, a rare sight. Ruby red in color, almost glowing in the darkness. Susie examined their features with a new perspective. Their small but broad nose, their face that was gaining new angularity with puberty still taking place, their piercings that they had to beg and barter with Toriel to get. They were... pretty damn attractive, honestly.
Susie blushed harder thinking of that. That's weird. This is Kris we're talking about! But... The way Kris's eyes drifted shut, their soft breaths becoming deeper and more calm as they drifted off in Susie's lap, feeling safe...
Susie felt happy for a moment that Kris was there. Just happy for their presence. She would leave it at that for now. She didn't want to grapple with the implications of what this all meant. For now, they were really close friends. Nothing more... And certainly nothing less. She felt her eyes betraying her as well, the heavy lids drooping lower and lower with each second. But the last thing she remembers looking at... Was Kris.
