Day 2: Obsession | Hospital

or: Corazon brings Law lunch

Work Text:

"Hello?," Corazon knocks on the nurse's station counter, in his other hand is a plastic bag of packed food and snacks.

A man turns from the computer on the opposite side of the station, the lower half of his face is covered with a dark mask, enhancing his sharp, dark eyes. His light hair is shaggy and a few centimeters short of completely shadowing his eyes.

The man's, Uni, Corazon reads on the name tag, eyes widen, "Cora-san..?!"

"Yes?," now it is Corazon's turn to be confused, had he met this man and didn't remember? Corazon is sure he would have remembered a man such as this, as eccentric as the company he kept was.

"You must be here to see Law.. right?"

Before Corazon can confirm the assumption or even ask how Uni knew about his connection to Law, the man is ushering him down the hall to a small office and onto a soft, leather couch.

"I'll.. go get him for you, Cora-san..!"

Corazon sits in confusion for a minute before he rises from the couch, and begins looking around the office, setting the bag of food on the edge of the desk that looked out of place in an office as small as this.

A custom nameplate faces out, Corazon recognizes it as the one gifted to Law by his uncle as commemoration of his promotion and acquisition of his own space; the office.

Trafalgar D. Water Law, engraved neatly and proudly.

"Wow, it really is Cora-san," Corazon startles awake, long limbs flailing as his brain comes back online.

"Shachi!," Corazon grins, the man in question returning it.

"Law is almost done scrubbing out," Shachi reports.

"Is Penguin with you?," Corazon asks, fully awake, crossing to the desk to grab the bag and to Shachi in five strides, "Here, I got these for Law but I know you and Penguin like these more."

"We're about to head out again- Woah," Shachi fumbles to catch the two packets of sweets and chips that had slipped from Corazon's fingers.

"Thanks, Cora-san," Shachi gives a two finger salute and takes his leave, the click of his heels in sync with that of the next person to walk into the office - Law.

Law is one of the best surgeons in Flevance prefecture, and that was by design.

He had been born into a family of doctors, where he had unlimited access and ability to do whatever he set his heart on. He would study various areas of medicine with his mother and father, satisfy the curiosities of his younger sister and conduct any experiment he so wished to.

An unfortunate incident resulted in half of the prefecture having a hidden disease activated; Amber Lead Disease.

His parents had worked tirelessly with scientists and doctors in and outside of Flevance prefecture to suppress the disease, buying time for the children that had been affected first whilst they continued to find a cure.

When funding had grown strained, a benefactor had come forward, offering unlimited resources on the stipulation that they received medical care - regardless of how experimental, or detrimental the circumstance - without question.

Doflamingo, the Donquixote patriarch, had signed check after check, and once the cure had been manufactured continued to support research.

"Money can buy anything," the man had said, "and I only want the best."

By the time that the Donquixote patriarch had stepped in, nearly all of the families whose children had been affected had lost their savings in maintaining care for such a painful disease.

Law's family had been among those. His sister had been the first patient, and Law's Amber Lead Disease had manifested near the end of his parents' search for a cure, long after his own parents had become afflicted.

He had been lucky, the last of a select few that had remained unafflicted for months after the first outbreak. He had been solely in charge of his parents and sister's care, slogging through a world unknown to him, alone.

The Donquixote patriarch had taken a liking to Law, in the short time between his parents becoming afflicted and a cure being produced.

The attention had been unnerving. It had compounded when the other Donquixote brother, the younger - smaller by a miniscule amount - brother Corazon had taken to following him, standing outside of his parents or sister's hospital rooms when Law would visit.

By the time his parents and sister were better, Law had grown used to the man, had even developed a sort of dependency in that time.

Without Corazon to guard him, it felt like Law's world was crumbling, and when Doflamingo had offered to fund Law's schooling now that it was possible for Law to go again, and Law had jumped at the chance.

His parents had been apprehensive, but Law had been insistent, so Law had his first (official) face to face meeting with the Donquixote patriarch.

"The terms are much the same as the one I gave the people of Flevance - become mine and you can have anything you could possibly need or want."

Law had understood and accepted those terms from the beginning.

"I want Corazon."

Doflamingo had laughed, loud and dangerous.

"I'll keep you forever," Doflamingo repeated, "and you'll have my brother, my Corazon."

Law was given Corazon in exchange for signing over his mind and body to Doflamingo, and it had at the time and continues to be a small price to pay for the man.

Law's love for Corazon was not a secret. His desk held three photos, two of which were of Corazon, with and without Law.

His phone screen, for those who had caught a glimpse, was of Corazon on Law's eighteenth birthday, the day that Doflamingo had officially given Corazon away. The man was beautiful, frozen in time - he had his sister to thank, her steady hands and eye for detail had captured the way Law saw Corazon each and every day.

Whilst Law generally did not wear his rings at work, tucking them away in their own boxes when he arrived and taking them out when the day was over, it was common knowledge that he was married.

His general surgery team, and most of Law's colleagues, had only known Corazon from pictures and stories - with the exception of his longest and closest friends; Bepo, Shachi and Penguin - so as they walked through the halls of the hospital, Corazon carrying Law's bag which allowed Law to eat the very much cold food that the man had prepared for him, they were followed by curious eyes and furtive whispering.

Corazon had been let out of his cage and gone to Law, eager to be placed back in, his husband's low sweet voice putting him to sleep.
