Vanessa’s back hit the wall, her breath coming out in short, ragged gasps. Her hands trembled, although remained tangled in her blonde locks. The shock was far too much for the 29-year-old, and she couldn’t ground herself. The very woman who promised John a cure for his cancer, was not only a scam artist and a fraud, but her mother. The very woman who abandoned her at birth, and the very woman her father refuses to ever talk about. Growing up, if Vanessa would ask about her mother, William would yell at her to stop
“Look what you did to her, asshole.” Amanda snapped with a bitter edge towards Cecilia, who just smiled.
“What? A mother can’t have a heart to heart with her daughter?” Amanda just scoffed, calling out to her girlfriend. “Vanny, baby. Look at me. It’s okay. She’s just a worthless cunt!” When Vanessa lacked a response, Amanda could feel the panic rising in her chest. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?!” Amanda couldn’t even go to her to make sure she was all right, as she had to pretend to be chained. She was stuck watching helplessly as Cecilia made her way over, grabbing Vanessa by her chin. “When I get out of here, I’m getting your dad out of that prison, and he will know what it feels like to truly get away with the unimaginable. You, however, are going to die here without anybody to help you; just like how you should’ve died in that hospital.”
Amanda screamed trying to lunge at her, but the chain held her back. Fuck. Although Vanessa still couldn’t speak, every single one of Cecilia‘s words registered and hit her one after the other. “Face the facts, sweetheart..” she paused, bringing Vanessa’s face closer to her own, to revel in the trauma and fear in those broken hazel eyes.
“You’re the daughter of two brilliantly twisted minds. It doesn’t matter what good you do, or how many people you help or save; it’s in your bloodline. You’re as conniving and depraved as we are.” She kissed Vanessa’s forehead in a mockery of parental affection, watching with disdain as her body dropped to the floor. “ almost 10 months of you developing in my womb, and I never would’ve thought you would turn out so weak. It’s pathetic, really. I would’ve thought your father’s parenting methods would make you stronger, resilient…”
“He made her clean up the bodies of children when she was nothing more than a child herself, you sick fuck.”
Cecilia smiled like the snake oil sailswoman she was, turning to Amanda. “I’m aware. He called me the same night it happened, and I could hear Vanessa’s pitiful wails in the background. I poured myself some wine and listened with joy as he bragged. And me? Sick? You’re just as sick as I am. Pot calls the kettle black, I suppose. You picked a weak link as your lover.”
“Vanessa’s more than you think. I honestly find it very sad that you don’t even know your own daughter. Left her as soon as you could, because you believed that a baby would ruin everything-“
“Amanda!” John barked, despite the fake blood pooling in his mouth. Cecilia just went for the money bag with Parker. Amanda unchained herself, freeing John and Carlos in the process. She hurried over to Vanessa, cradling her head in her lap. “Come on, Vanny. Say something, damn it.”
“She’s still in shock.” He held a bloodsoaked finger to her nose, and everything hit her all at once again. She broke down on the chemical plant floor, Amanda holding her close.
Vanessa would always be surrounded by bodies and the metallic scent of blood.
It would follow her like a shadow, no matter where she went, no matter how she tried to run.
The little bunny tried to run through the woods, the wolf behind her. She thought papa rabbit would protect her but instead he was as evil and blood hungry as the wolf. The little bunny drowned in the darkness of her mind.
Monsters can come in all shapes and sizes, including your own parents.
