Welcome to Springfield, Missouri, the Queen City of the Ozarks! We hope you enjoy your visit! There's plenty to do while you are here!
Of course I am sure you know all about my hometown of Branson, and how a bunch of us hillbillies somehow keep up with Disney. And you may know about Wilson's Creek Battlefield just west of here. Famous battle in the Civil War. And maybe you know about our caves around us. Missouri is famous for its caves. At Fantastic Caverns they drive you through in a car, and in Marvel Cave at Silver Dollar City you ride out on a funicular train. Not many caves offer that.
But there is plenty to do in the city, as well. Springfield was designed to be a tourist destination, and I am always surprised how many out of town people don't see that is what's going on.
Our main street is Campbell, and it has just about any kind of family fun you can have, from movie theaters and mega arcades down to mini golf and swimming pools. Right in the middle of all of that is the original Bass Pro, and next to that is Wonders of Wildlife's world class aquarium.
And we have our haunted Pythian Castle, just a couple of blocks away from my neighborhood. And we have our history museum and our art museum, and a big beautiful Japanese Stroll Garden with a butterfly house next door.
And running right through the center of Springfield is old Route 66, which made all the rest possible.
