“Are you ok to come over tonight?” Charlie slid a pint towards Elle, who watched with a contemplative expression.
“It's been a few months since I saw him, but I think so.”
“Are you friends again?”
Elle shrugged. “It doesn’t magically fix itself. Sure, we try. We express platitudes, smile and laugh at jokes, but it's never really the same again, is it? I’m always expecting a hidden barb or subtext.”
She took a swallow of the beer, and continued. “But we move on, right? It's imperative when you share friends. Someone has to be the adult in the room.”
