Chapter Text
The television played a commercial as Tommy hunched forward on the couch and Benrey leaned back. Tommy looked down at his lap, a screen illuminating his face even in the evening light.
“Yo, Tommy.”
“Uh, yeah?”
“Whatchu got there?” He removed his back from the couch and leaned in toward Tommy to look at his phone. He had been scrolling through an app with grey-scale UI. He paused his scrolling and brought his phone closer to his face.
“It’s Twitter.”
“Wha- what did you say?”
“Twitter.” Tommy repeated, only then catching on that Benrey had no clue what Twitter was. “It’s a social- a social media. We uh, we just talk on there ‘n- and.. Yeah, we- yeah.”
“Uh, sounds like a real bummer. What’s the point, bro, I’m literally right here?”
“It’s not- it’s not like real life! It’s, uhm- social media is- it’s like- oh, uhm, like here!” Tommy turned and faced the screen towards Benrey. Benrey made a noise of confusion.
“That’s- it’s a Twi- a Tweet, and when you just scroll..” Tommy exits the tweet and scrolls through his feed. The different texts and pictures almost sort of overloaded Benrey’s brain. How could anyone like this?
“Uhh, that’s.. That’s nice and all- wait, scroll up!” Benrey’s attention was brought back to the phone, and Tommy stopped, scrolling up slowly.
“I saw something cool- the uhh, fries.” Benrey pointed at a tweet talking about McDonald’s fries.
“Yeah, Mc- the fries from McDonalds- they’re up- getting an upgrade!”
“Gimme your phone.” Benrey snatched the phone from Tommy, who rebels for a moment, before letting the other have the phone. Benrey clicked on the tweet and stared at the text.
“McDonalds has launched an XXL shareable version of their fries.. Malaysia.. Fuck, bro, seriously? In Malaysia? How far is that?” Benrey lifted his head from the phone, looking at Tommy expectantly. He thinks for a moment.
“Malays- it- it’s on the other side- somewhere in eur- Asia. Yeah.”
“Fuuuuuuuuck.”
Tommy doesn’t respond, carefully takes the phone back, and just swipes off the tweet, going back to his feed. After a few seconds, Benrey stops Tommy again and clicks on a tweet before Tommy can say anything.
“Benrey!!-”
“IT’S FUCKIN’ FORTNITE, BRO!”
Tommy submits and let’s Benrey have the phone, sighing. Benrey took it, his reaction to the look of fortnite being no different to that of the Smile Dog.
“Whu-what do you like so much about Fortnite?”
“It’s a good game, bro- hang on, what do people think?”
He clicked on the tweet and scrolled down. Every comment was talking about something entirely else than Fortnite itself.
“..Who’s.. The fuck is chibi? Doki- chibidoki bro, nobody gives a crap.”
“Benrey-” Tommy put a hand on Benrey’s shoulder, but released it when Benrey continued his rant.
“If Fantastic Four is comin’ to Fortnite, it fuckin’ matters.”
“Benrey if you-”
“Waaaaait, when's the last time I played Fortnite?”
“Benrey, make your own account, please!”
“Whuh?” Benrey turned back to Tommy, confused.
Tommy grabbed back his phone, Benrey reaching his hand out for a moment before pulling back begrudgingly. “You need to make your own account. I use this for personal- for stuff that’s personal. Not- it’s not yours.”
“Kay.” Benrey mumbled. The television broke from commercial break and he could hear the familiar sounds of fanfare. He grabbed the remote and shut off the TV. “Get me one.”
“An acc- you need an account, Benrey?..”
“Yeah, so I can tell these stupid fake ass bitches off.”
“That’s not- not even what Twitter is for..”
“Muehh, Nyehh, don’t care.” Benrey mocked, then his voice turned quieter as he spoke his thoughts. “Now where’s my phone?”
Tommy sighed, annoyed.
