Work Text:

Sumiko Kuronami has always yearned for the warmth of another person.

For as long as she could remember, she was isolated. Outcasted. Cautious looks from passers-by that just knew what she was, what she could be capable of.

She’s not fully human, she knows this, she’s dangerous, she knows this too. It’s something that she’s been told for as long as she could remember.

The other children wouldn’t dare to go near her, and even back then she never blamed them, never hated them, because they were right.

“Go near her, and you’re good as dead, she’ll use her powers on you to eat you.” They’d say in hushed tones, laced with just the right amount of mocking and hatred that would form scars deep within her very core.

Sumiko Kuronami is a dangerous monster. She fears herself, like how many fear her.

What was she truly capable of?

What would happen if she couldn’t control it?

She often wonders how many years she spent isolating herself since everyone was so intent on isolating her — locking herself up like a wild beast, just for something she didn't choose, that she was born with.

Technically, she shouldn’t even be alive, the dragons are meant to be extinct. Gone. So why isn't she?

Sumiko Kuronami should be dead, that's what the people say.

And she couldn’t help but agree.
