Work Text:

Stars splattered across a pitch-black sky, lovers atop cold grass.
Years ago, Vinestaff never would’ve thought she’d lower her guard around Scythe. Yet here she was, stargazing with her lover by her side. The wind cast a gentle, cool breeze across the hill as the two gazed upon the sky. Thieves Den’s hills were perfect for observing the night sky, far enough from cities to let each star shine to its fullest potential. It was marvelous, really, how something so bright could be seen from galaxies away. Vinestaff marveled at the sight.
“The Inphero’s gorgeous, isn’t it?”
“Only about as gorgeous as you,” Scythe chuckled. “Most stunnin’ inphernal I’ve ever met and the most stunnin’ view in the Inphinity.”
“Oh, stop it.”
The two laughed together, a warm and fuzzy feeling. Was this what true love felt like? A connection so deep, it couldn’t be put into words. A sense of welcoming, of relief, of belonging. How Vine had missed this feeling.
“I’m glad we met each other. So much has changed since then, but I don’t regret any part of it.”
Scythe turned to meet Vinestaff’s eyes, reaching out to place her hand atop Vine’s own.
“Glad I met ya too, flowers.”
Vinestaff intertwined her fingers with Scythe’s own as the two stared into each other’s eyes. No words were spoken, yet so much was said. Starlight reflected off Scythe’s spiraling teal horns, highlighting her elegance in a cold silver glow.
How long did the two inphernals lay together? Minutes, hours, days? Neither knew for sure. Each precious moment savored to its full extent, basking in the moonlight. In an inphinity so magnificent, how could even the brightest stars be glossed over? Ignored, as just another part of the night?
In the chaos of a wold shrouded by darkness, finding light could prove difficult. Many would choose to embrace the darkness, seeing no reason to waste the effort. Vinestaff used to be the same, before the light came to her. A singular flame, burning strong against the shadow. A flame so bright, it was almost blinding. All she needed was to let her eyes adjust, to accept the light before her.
Vinestaff rested her head on Scythe’s shoulders, grateful to have such an opportunity. Scythe smiled lightly before resting her head on Vine’s own, running her hair through her fingers. She didn’t mind the sudden affection, a break from the wind’s chill.
“Y’know, before I met ya, I never paid much attention to the sky. Always brushed it off, ignored it. Thanks for showin’ me what I’ve been missin’ out on.”
“Well, I guess I could say the same. I’ve never been one for the small details, but ever since we met I’ve started appreciating what I have. I guess it’s a mutual benefit.”
“Glad I could help ya out.”
As the sky grew dark, Vinestaff found herself growing tired. She didn’t want this night to end, but knew it couldn’t last forever. All good things had to come to an end eventually.
Gradually, Vine allowed herself to withdraw into her fatigue.

“I love you, Scythe.”
“Love you too, flowers.”

Two lovers asleep beneath a star-scattered sky.
