I don't know if it's you I miss (ScarredMoon)

Summary:

“Hey Pearl.” He greeted her with a smile, as leaves sprinkled down on them from the tree above, as he got up.

“Are you okay?” She asked, giggling as she looked him up and down, the leaves and twigs in his hair.

“Of course!” He said cheerily, dusting himself off. “A little fall like that won't hurt me, don’t you worry.”

Chapter Text

A few weeks after the beginning of season nine of hermitcraft Pearl had finished her starter base, and a fish head war with Grian. It was nice to know they’d be here for a long time, and didn’t have to rush anything like last season. But she also missed how nice and close everyone was in Boatem.

She found herself missing it more and more, the deaths and laughs by the Boatem hole, Scars Swaggon, her base she loved. The long conversations under the stars with Scar.

She recalled Scar never really started his mega-base. He was going to put it on Grian’s mountain. He was excited to work on it, but also kept talking about Scarland, how he was going to make it in season nine.

Looking up from the sword she was sharpening, she let out a sigh, that man works himself too hard, always dreaming big but burning himself out, she glanced over to his starter base, a big beautiful tree, with hanging lights glowing softly in the falling of night.

Now looking at the direction of the elf man she didn’t think it was season 8 she missed, not even Boatem, she missed her time with Scar.

The way he knew how to make her laugh, how he helped her with building ideas, how bad he felt after he chose to build on Grian’s base, not hers. How she and him made cookies, and she had to save them from burning, because they were under the forgetful eyes of Scar.

She needs to stop mourning the end of an old season and embrace the new one. Because it was not the old season she missed, it was Scar. She had spent so much time trying to work and plan for the year to come she didn’t talk to him, and until now, she didn’t realize how much their time meant. How much Scar might have also missed it.

Pearl set her sword down and got up, night almost fully upon her. She made her way to his tree, admiring every detail. The leaves swaying, the small lights in the depths of the braces that gave off the vibe of fireflies.

“Scar?!” She called, hoping the elf was up there.

A human-like figure dressed in green half climbed half fell down the side of the tree and landed right in front of her.

“A little fall like that won't hurt me, don’t you worry.” He had an air and gusto Pearl didn’t know how he managed.

“You fall out of the tree too much, you’ve got to be hurt.” Her tone is honey like, as she says it, with a smile.

He gave her a beautiful smile back, making her heart feel warm.

“Oh Pearly, I get hurt like this all the time, it’s not my first tree house, I had an amazin’ one in season seven, you should have seen it.” His voice is full of joy and excitement, like he would show her if he could.

“Well you haven’t learned how to live in one yet,” she remarked, reaching out and plucking a leaf out of Scar’s long brown hair.

“Ture.” He said, chuckling. “So what is it you needed me so much for that I fell out of my tree?”

“Oh don’t you blame me for your clumsiness.” Pearl said, crossing her arms, but she let out a little laugh, enjoying the moment, enjoying this again.

“Fine! It was my fault.” He grumbled, though also laughing.

“Good. I wanted to see if I could braid your hair, it’s getting really long, and I don’t have anything else to do.” She didn’t mean for that to fall out of her mouth, didn’t mean that to be the reason she saw him. But she can’t say how much she missed them.

“Really?” He sounded almost let down, but he composed his face to show a smile. “Yeah, that’s fine. Come up.” Scar agreed, starting to head to his tree.

“Is it safe?” Pearl asked with a skeptical smile, trying not to show the sick feeling in her stomach, how much she wished to tell him.

“How dare you question my tree's safety!” Scar said, a hand on his chest in offence, though his smile wasn’t sharp like before, but also not soft. Just a shape that you call a smile, it didn’t hold the emotion of joy.

“Okay, okay.” Pearl said, raising her hands in surrender.

Once up in the tree Pearl could truly appreciate how breathtaking it was, there were soft lights, green leaves, and the view of all the other bases was cinematic.

Scar looked over at Pearl, she was sitting on the floor of his open tree house, looking out at the view, the new moon casting simple yet beautiful light on her. She was the view he missed.

But she was just here to braid his hair, so if that’s what she wants then, okay, Scar can just love her from a distance.

He sat down next to her. “So you want to braid my hair?” The question was quiet, maybe too quiet, because her reply was-

“How do you get used to a view like this?” Pearl breathed, she was resting back on her forearms.

Scar let out a chuckle, smiling at her. “Yeah, it’s nice.” Though his eyes don’t stray from her.

Her blue eyes crash into his, and with the soft golden light around them, she looks like an angel. The gold in her hair shining, just as bright as her soft smile. He doesn’t know if he can breathe with her like this, doesn't know if can breathe without her like this.

He’s looking at Pearl with those green eyes, the golden light sending a soft glow on him, she doesn't know how to speak anymore, doesn’t know if it’s a God or elf she’s looking at.

Then his eyes flick down to his lap and she is deprived of drinking them in.

“So…my hair is a little messy, haven’t brushed it in a bit-but you can still style it if you want.” His voice is masked, plain not much emotion.

“It’s okay if you don’t want me to,” She said, then she hesitated. “I-I didn’t really want to, it just fell out of my mouth.”

Scar looked back up at her, something more in his eyes, something she didn’t know. Maybe hope. “Then what were you going to ask?”

“Uhh-just wanted to spend time with you really, you know we hung out so much last season, and I’ve missed it.” She managed to say.

“Ah-so you’ve been feeling the same.” Scar remarked, a sad yet soft look in his eyes now.

“You missed it too?”

He let out a small laugh, looking down at his lap again, “well I don’t carry this around for no reason.” He pulled out something from his pocket, she could only make out what it was once he held it under her eyes.

“Sunflower.” She said, a soft smile pulling at her lips. He reached out and tucked it behind her ear.

She moved closer to him, and rested her head on his shoulder, “I can’t believe you remembered.” She whispered.

“I could never forget you.”

They stayed like that, looking out at the moon and stars.

Pearl was happy to be letting go of last season. Because it was right here, he was what she missed. And they were star gazing again, the sunflower that he picked for her long ago back in her hair.
