Jimmy knew. Of course he knew. Clark was his best friend and had been since the first day he walked through the planet doors and bumped right into a solid back. Jimmy’s job is to take multiple pictures of Superman, spend hours pouring over them and picking the best ones for the Chief. He knows the contours of Superman’s face like no other. So if he happened to notice that his best friend’s face and Superman’s face look exactly alike, he decided to just keep his mouth shut.
Seeing Clark again safe and sound after five years away was a relief to say the least. He offered the opportunity to get a drink and catch up with his friend at the first opportunity. Clark was clearly upset about Lois being engaged and having a child. So, when Clark mentioned he never thought a woman like Lois could settle down, he told him he thought she was still in love with you know who. Jimmy could see Clark ponder over this and it seemed to cheer him up a bit.
A couple days after that when Lois said she’s “done Superman” he couldn’t help but laugh with his friend sitting right next to him. Jimmy even brought up Lex Luther so Clark could have an excuse to investigate him or at least ask about him.
And when Clark came scurrying from the bathroom moments before Richard and Jason came back from getting burritos he didn’t say anything. Lois stepped off the elevator, seconds later looking frazzled and her hair wind-blown, Jimmy didn’t need to guess where Clark had just been. Jimmy just ate his burrito looking like he didn’t know anything.
And in the aftermath of the earthquakes when everyone was returning to work, Jimmy heard Paulie casually ask where Clark was. Of course Jimmy covered for him. Clark was back in Kansas with his mother, and he wasn’t sure when he’d be back.
Jimmy figured Clark would tell him when he’s ready. In the meantime, Jimmy will continue to silently cover for, and cheer on his best friend and superhero.
