Happy Wolfie Day

Summary:

“Oh no,” he spoke slowly, “I’m forty-three already. What a nightmare,” his voice was still hoarse from sleeping, but Remus wouldn’t be Remus if he didn’t complain about his age all the time.

Notes:

This is a translation of my own work which I published in 2018 on a russian fanfiction site. I also uploaded it here in 2020 and only now decided to actually translate it. Bear with me if something sounds off, I'm not a native English speaker plus I haven't written anything in quite some time. Hope you like it!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Damn it!” mumbled the woman under her breath taking out the baking tray from the oven and blowing on her lightly burned finger. Whatever. Nothing could ruin this perfect day. She was happily humming “happy wolfie day” as she started making cocoa and let the waffles cool down a bit.

It’s her beloved man’s birthday today, March 10, 2003. She always looked forward to this day as it’s the only day aside from Valentine’s Day when Remus let himself sleep in meaning that Tonks got to wake up first and make him breakfast. Though you wouldn’t call it a proper breakfast as she couldn’t really cook but at least it’s fun and cute. It always warms her heart as Dora knows that even if she messes something up, Remus will say that he likes it anyway (even though he’ll tease her about it for a few days...)

When everything was ready — warm waffles on the plate, strawberries and orange slices carefully laid out around, cocoa quite hot but not much as not to get burned — Nymphadora, having looked at the clock that showed half past eight, decided to go upstairs to the bedroom.

Putting the breakfast on the tray and levitating it, she went upstairs trying to move as quietly as possible. Ever since Teddy was born she actually managed to step lightly most of the time. Quite amazing, isn’t it?

Reaching the room, she looked into it and smiled unconsciously. Remus slept on his back, arms wide open, and snored softly. Ugh, she didn’t really like the snoring but she couldn’t fall asleep without it…

Approaching the bed, she levitated the tray on the bedside (thank Merlin it was always clean) and carefully sat on the edge of the bed. Putting a hand on her husband’s chest, she began shaking him slightly.

“Rem, darling,” there was a serene humming in response. “Wake up, my love,” she leaned in, touched his neck lightly with her lips and then felt his strong hand wrap around her waist and bring her closer.

“G’mornin’,” he mumbled and rubbed his face with his other hand — sun rays were shining mercilessly into his eyes.

“Happy Birthday, my love,” she smiled happily and traced his cheek with her fingers. “Oh no,” he spoke slowly, “I’m forty-three already. What a nightmare,” his voice was still hoarse from sleeping, but Remus wouldn’t be Remus if he didn’t complain about his age all the time.

“I reckon it’s the best age for a man,” she grinned, kissed him and nodded at the tray. “I made you something. Waffles and cocoa, just as you like.”

“It can wait,” he said huskily and quickly nuzzled into her side. Nymphadora’s eyes flew wide open in surprise but the next moment she closed them and kissed him back.

Her sweetness consumed him, drove him mad, completely and utterly. Just like always. Their passion never faded. Quite the opposite, it only grew with every glance, every touch, every kiss and blossomed into a beautiful and never wilting flower.

In a few seconds Remus pulled away from her lightly touching her cheek which made Tonks groan.

“I thought waffles and cocoa could wait,” she pouted crossing her arms.

“Yeah but Teddy can’t,” he chuckled and planted a kiss on her nose right before the door swung open and a five-year-old boy ran inside with a joyful expression.

“Daddy! Daddy! Happy birthday!” he climbed onto the bed carefully and threw himself into his father's arms laughing merrily.

Nympadora watched with a smile as Remus ruffled their son’s turquoise hair and kissed the top of his head causing Teddy to giggle, eliciting a similar laugh from his father.

At that moment they heard some noise from the downstairs. Right after there was some clatter and someone grumbled “Tonks… why is she always leaving her things all over the place…”. Teddy, having realized it was his second godfather, jumped out of bed and ran to the living room.

Remus snuggled into his wife and kissed her while there was time. Tonks traced some patterns with her fingers on his shoulder and Remus did his best not to giggle (it’s tickling!).

In a few seconds Sirius, smeared in soot a bit, appeared in the doorway with Teddy in his arms. In one of the hands he also held several chocolate bars.

“Hey lovebirds, enough with the smooching,” he grinned, turned around and began going down with Teddy. “We’re waiting for you in the kitchen. I’m so hungry I could eat a dragon. Oh yeah, Moony, Happy Birthday, old man.”

Dora chuckled and Remus just rolled his eyes. It's the same thing every year. He comes bright and early, brings some chocolate (which is why deep down Remus is almost not against him coming) and doesn’t let the couple have a moment alone (Teddy doesn’t count of course as he’s their little miracle and never causes them any troubles).

Tonks, stretching slightly, leaned back down to Remus and ran her hand through his hair, then along his cheek and neck, until her hand rested on his chest. There she traced a heart with her finger and then looked at her husband with tenderness, bringing her face closer to his, so that only a few inches separated them.

“Happy Wolfie Day,” she whispered and kissed him sweetly once more.

“Hey, we’re actually hungry here!” Sirius yelled from the kitchen causing the couple to smile through the kiss.
