Work Text:
Dirt and debris had fallen everywhere. The cliff hadn’t been that big, yet the collapse..was huge. It was silent and calm yet a horrible presence filled the air. Paisley opened her eyes, everything blurry as she tried looking at the aftermath of what had just happened.
She tried moving her body, but let out a wince after feeling a sharp pain near her stomach. Her hand reached out, feeling the ground to see if she’d find her glasses. She picked them up, putting them on her face as her hands shook.
Although they had broken from the fall, she could still see out of one of the lenses. She looked down at her body, seeing crimson red seeping through her clothing. Anxiety had filled her thoughts, already seeing the smeared blood on her hands. Her eyes dashed around, seeing pavement equipment and debris scattered across the area.
She took a moment to recollect her thoughts before trying to stand upright… failing to do so due to the pain and weakness of her legs. She had suddenly remembered that she wasn’t alone.
Rex.
Rex..
He was around here somewhere. Her breathing became a bit ecstatic as she frantically crawled around, looking for her worker. “REX!” She shouted out, her voice slightly breaking. “R-REX!-..” Paisley called out again, her heart starting to beat faster.
“P-Paisley?!” Hearing a voice behind her, she turned around the other way, seeing Rex limping towards her with teary eyes. “R-..” She cut herself off with a pained groan, struggling to keep looking at the man in the eye. Rex tried to get over to her as fast as he could, and when reaching her he fell to his knees with a grunt.
“B-boss are you alright?” Rex spoke, his voice shaking. He grabbed Paisley’s wrists, seeing her blood covered torso. His gaze turned to Paisley’s face, her eyes widened as she stared at his chest. His mind had been so filled with adrenaline that he hadn’t realized that a giant gash had been made across his chest, and the blood was pouring down his torso.
“..s-shit..” Paisley let out a breathy sigh, her hand going to rest on Rex’s shoulder. Rex spoke up, looking around. “..P-Paisley we can still f-find help-“ “No.” She shook her head, blinking slowly as she looked him in the eyes. Red liquid started dripping from her mouth as she spoke. “No one is gonna..find..” She slowly stopped in the middle of her sentence, starting to fall back a little.
“I..I n-need to lie down, g-give me a minute.” Paisley sluggishly let out before she closed her eyes, falling forward. Rex caught her, almost immediately panicking. The pain from his chest got worse as he yelled out. “No-! No no..s-stay a-awake boss, we’ll find someone!” He tried standing as he picked her up before falling back down, realizing that he had been limping earlier for a reason. He looked down at Paisley, who had been staring up at him. He whispered out as he turned his head towards the wound dug deep in his chest.
“...we…we aren’t making it ..a-are we?” His question made Paisley let out a tiny quiet laugh, her eyes barely open. “..I don’t think so..” Her response was soft-spoken, making Rex a bit teary eyed as he took off his construction vest, making small pained noises. He folded it up and put it behind Paisley’s head as he laid her down on the ground, the symptoms of the injury finally starting to get to him. He laid on his back next to her, his hands now covered in his and hers blood.
They both looked up at the sky, their breathing slow. Paisley, who had managed to try and stay awake this whole time, had closed her eyes, speaking. “..talk to me Rex.” He turned to her face, stuttering as tears started falling from his eyes. He looked back up at the sky..
“O-okay. U-uh..l-last week..”
“..what about it?”
“..I w-was gonna a-ask you..if y-you wanted to..go somewhere with me..but you were so busy, I didn’t wanna bother you.”
“..haha..really?”
“..yeah.”
He grabbed her hand, wrapping his fingers around hers. He let out a sigh, softly smiling. “Do you think maybe..if we end up being found, we could try-…you know?…”
“…”
“Paisley?”
She had gone silent. Rex immediately went to look at her, looking at her face. Her body went limp, the blood gushing from her wound. “Oh god-..Paisley!-” He sobbed out, pulling her body closer. He cried harder then before, not caring that he was covered in blood.
He didn’t care if he was gonna bleed out now.
He wrapped his arms around her, pressing a small kiss to her forehead. “I’m sorry I’m so sorry....” He whispered out those last few words, tears falling down his cheeks.
Those last few minutes were agony for him, and he knew what was coming. He shut his eyes, feeling the pain get worse every second. Everything felt warm all of the sudden, slowly but surely he started growing unconscious. The last thing he did was close his eyes, everything turning black.
