Work Text:
It wasn't uncommon on quiet days for Leia Organa to be one of the first people on the base to wake up (on busy days, she usually didn't even sleep), and the first thing she did that day was go to the infirmary, and she was surprised to find an unexpected person there.
"General Organa, is something wrong?" Poe asked as soon as he saw her.
"No, I just came to check on the boy. Any news?"
"The doctors say Finn is out of danger, but they have no idea when he'll wake up."
"I see…were you here all night?"
"Yes."
"Was this something that just happened tonight, or have you been doing this for the past few weeks too?"
For a second, Poe looked a little embarrassed. Leia had known the pilot for a fair number of years and had never seen such an expression on his face before. Poe swallowed, looked at her, and said,
"It must seem so silly, I barely know him after all. But when I was captured, I really thought it would be the end. On every mission I go on, I'm aware there's a chance I might die, but it's never been like this before. I knew I was going to be tortured and killed, and then out of nowhere he appeared and rescued me. It's amazing to have something like this happen after you feel like all hope is lost. I want to be here for him."
"That's not silly. Not at all."
She smiled thinking of the day she thought she would die and then rescue came in the form of those two previously unknown men who would mean so much to her in all the years that followed.
"Thank you, General."
"You're welcome. I hope he wakes up soon."
For his sake, and for yours too , Leia thought.
