Countdown Through The Raindrops

Summary:

Soyo had adjusted to Anon's departure after the disbanding of MyGo!!!!!, so to suddenly hear her voice one dreary afternoon was more than she could handle..

Work Text:

The doorbell to Soyo's apartment rang out in the quietude of the interior, only subdued by the sound of the rain needling its way down the windows.

Sat on the sofa and curled up with a book, Soyo glanced at her phone on the table as she weighed up the possibilities as to whom it could be.

Not her mother, she wasn't due to return till next week.

Not any of her university acquaintances, she hadn't divulged to them where she lived.

Not anyone from MyGo!!!!!, they had disbanded as soon as they had graduated.

"Soyorin! You home?".

The sudden sound of her voice resulted in Soyo doing a double take, shaking her head whilst wondering if she was hearing things, if the silence of her home had finally eroded the lingering sanity of her mind.

To her delight or dismay, she hadn't decided yet, that frustrating nickname was hurtling into the apartment again.

"Soyorin?".

The brunette grabbed her phone and checked the doorbell app, her steely blue eyes widening at the sight of someone she hadn't seen in three years.

That wild pink hair was almost coruscating, a contrast to the neutral colours of the hallway, as if offering life to the otherwise muted location.

When had Anon returned to Japan?

Soyo stood up and almost jogged to the door but she didn't open it, the amalgam of the rain and her thundering heartbeat wreaking havoc in her ears, however, Anon had heard her light footsteps.

Her voice became chipper, "Ah, you are home!" she knocked, "Can you let me in?".

"No" Soyo replied flatly, mood morphing to the cantankerous, "What are you doing here?".

"I'm here to see you, obviously" Anon replied sweetly, "Soyorin, please open the door".

No, you are not getting your way by using that tone.

Soyo took in a tremulous breath, her left hand balled into a fist and she was so tempted to open the door if only to punch Anon in the face given the splenetic mood she was bordering on.

Just once would evince the maelstrom of emotions that Anon conjured.

"I get that you're still mad at me for leaving".

On the other side of the door, Anon had her palm over it as she glanced down, accepting that Soyo would inevitably keep her locked out.

"But we decided to end the band, right? I didn't want to, and I know that neither did you or the others..these things just happen".

"So, that was enough of a reason for you to decide to study abroad, was it? Just because we disbanded, you thought it would be better to go halfway across the world without even mentioning it to us?".

Anon could hear how Soyo was barely keeping her voice levelled as the captious spiel continued, her acerbic tone scathing while she recounted the events.

However, Anon felt that Soyo wasn't being fair either.

"You never said you wanted me to stay, Soyorin".

The door was suddenly pulled open and Anon found her wrist being yanked forward and into the apartment.

Soyo then released her and stepped back as the furrow between her brows deepened the more she took in the figure in front of her.

The impudence of Anon to be standing there with that stupid smile on her face, revealing that ridiculous fang and those vexing grey eyes shimmering like she was looking at something too valuable for words.

Perhaps it was erroneous to have let her in, after all.

Anon slipped off of her outdoor shoes and put on the guest slippers like it was the norm despite being away for three years.

"Hi" she greeted, almost meekly, "It's good to see you".

Once again, Soyo's emotions were thrown into a vortex, "Would you have stayed if I had asked you to?" she enquired, bypassing the endearing greeting, "Also, why are you taller than me now?".

"The growth spurt finally hit?" Anon grinned and took a step towards Soyo, "As for if I would have stayed..yeah".

"Liar".

"I learned from the best".

Soyo was a second away from kicking Anon through the door but Anon quickly put her hands up in surrender, realising it was too soon to jest like that.

"I would have gone back to England at a later time, probably" she then said.

"Why? Did you forget what happened the last time you went abroad?".

Anon lowered her hands, "I did, and it always bothered me how I never stuck it out back then. I ran away, right? So going back to study in England with more preparation and seeing it through was something I always had been keeping in the back of my mind, you know? So when MyGo!!!!! disband, it seemed like the perfect time".

Logically, this all made sense and if Soyo was less livid, she would have been impressed as it showcased how Anon had actually matured.

However, the three years apart, and now Anon suddenly being here, was counteracting any sense Soyo had had so she was close to fulminating, spewing words she might not be able to take back.

Simply put, Soyo felt like Anon had abandoned her.

"Great, well I'm so glad it worked out for you, Anon. You can leave now" Soyo replied dryly and turned around.

"You're really going to let me go in the rain?".

"Swim there if it's that bad".

"Soyorin".

The brunette stared out of the windows as she felt Anon close to distance between them, daring to snake her arms around her waist to pull her back. Soyo bit the inside of her cheek at being able to feel Anon so close to her like this, her arms tightening whilst she rested her forehead on Soyo's nape.

"Soyorin" Anon mumbled, "I missed you every day. Even when you gave me your cold replies when I messaged you, it made me happy".

"Idiots are easy to please" Soyo replied without any bite.

She felt Anon smile which aggravated Soyo further, compelling her to try and break out of Anon's embrace, but the energy in her hands clawing away at the sleeves of Anon's jacket lost momentum with each second.

"It meant that you would still wait for me".

Soyo glowered at hearing this, "Did your ego get bigger while you were there? How is that even possible?".

"Not my ego, but my feelings for you did." Anon easily responded and moved her right hand up to Soyo's chest till she could place it over her heartbeat, "It's the same for you, huh?" she smiled, marvelling at how rapidly the heartbeat was under her palm, "I'm so glad".

Soyo, already enervated by having Anon take her apart like this within 10 minutes in her aleatory ways, turned around and grabbed Anon's jacket, "Stop talking".

"Fine with me".

Anon then dipped down, unperturbed by those furious blue eyes, and kissed Soyo.

While she would have preferred it to be gentle, 'I'm back' kiss, Anon felt the moment it registered to the brunette as to what was happening, the force of the kiss increasing by tenfold.

Soyo's hands had gone into Anon's hair, bringing her down further till the pressure of their lips melded together was a recipe to leave them reddened and sore, which is exactly what she wanted.

To reiterate to herself that this wasn't a torturous dream or a fragmented memory.

Anon was here with her, almost on her as she moved them back into the living area while her hands had a solid grip of Soyo's waist and back.

Their lungs were pushed to the absolute brink and were only offered a reprieve when Soyo turned them around, shoving Anon onto the corner of the sofa before climbing onto her lap to keep her pinned down.

Not that Anon had any plans of escaping.

The momentary pause gave the two a chance to take in each other as they steadied their breathing while their hands wandered, undoing buttons and pulling up the hem of a dress.

Anon smiled whilst running her fingers against the side of Soyo's neck after brushing her hair over her shoulder.

"Soyorin, I'm back".

The ingenuous remark and expression was disarming and yet, Soyo remained anxious.

It was raining and she was waiting for something to go wrong.

Given her experiences, it was obvious that she would equate the rainfall with the impending sense of something reaching its end.

An event which would break her apart.

It was a thought Soyo would have fixated on in the past as she stared down into grey eyes whilst processing that sentence.

There was a softness in the shade, apposite to the disturbing wisps outside the windows, floating along in the sky silently.

Anon was here again, in her arms while the rain hammered down and for once, Soyo could separate herself from the fear of loss as she placed her hands on Anon's face.

"Welcome home".
