Chapter Text

Ronny sighed as she packed her stuff. The decision the team made was for the best. They clearly weren’t needed since the veteran rangers are able to handle everything. She had to say though, it did hurt that everyone was so quick to replace them.

“Hey.. Ronny. Can we talk.” A few knocks on the door alerted her, along with the voice. Ronny opened it with Rose standing outside.

“Yea. What’s up?” Ronny said. Her girlfriend walked into the room and closed the door. She looked extremely nervous, and the yellow ranger tried to hold her knowing it eased her. However Rose steps back. This wasn’t a good sign.

“…I think we should end our relationship..”

Of all things she can could think of, she was not expecting that. Ronny was shocked, hoping Rose didn’t actually mean what she said. But the regretful expression on her face, now refusing to look at her. She actually wanted to end it. Ronny couldn’t respond, she was unable to.

“It’s not your fault. It’s just..” Rose took a deep breath as she grabbed the doorknob. “I think it’s for the best..”

Quickly, her girlfriend- ex girlfriend.. left without another word. The yellow ranger stood in her room alone. Ronny thought people had exaggerated the pain of heartbreak but it felt like her heart was cracking in half. She had been in relationships before, but Ronny moved on easily. But this time.. it hurts. Rose had given her nothing but love. Late nights cuddles, brushing her, buying her things she liked

Sure.. there have been small bumps in their relationship but.. they always manage to get through it together. Their relationship had been.. great. Ronny felt her eyes water and quickly she wiped them away.

She quietly went back to packing, not wanting to think about the women that she loved.

Chapter Text

Time had passed since the worst week of her life and Ronny kept herself busy with her career. Racing took a lot of training and traveling. It was a nice distraction. She missed her ranger friends. None of them really had the time to talk because of the different time zones and jobs. Then there was the breakup..

Ronny couldn’t find herself to hate Rose. It really hurt that she did it without an explanation but it also left Ronny wondering why she did it. Rose said it wasn’t her fault but Ronny felt like she was lying. Did she hurt her by accident? Maybe teasing her too much?

Maybe Ronny should have chosen another restaurant to eat at because there were too many couples surrounding her. It’s not helping her get over the breakup. It was also a reminder that her relationship couldn’t be too loving in public or people would freak out. Curse her for liking girls. Ronny decided to take the food back to her hotel. She needed to get away from all the kissing and loving couples.

Monaca didn’t have much but Ronny still explored the area. Her race was over so she had free time now. There were just a few small shops and fans approaching her for autographs. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Just as she came out of a shop with a drink, her phone rang. She picked up thinking it was her boss telling her schedule for the next few weeks.

“Hello?”

“Hey.. Ronny..”

She almost choked on her drink when she heard Rose’s voice. Why was she calling her? Did something bad happen? Rose didn’t say anything for a while until she heard a sigh.

“I know things are.. awkward between us.. but Mack needs our help. He’s planning on doing something crazy and he might need the team. I’ll tell you the location and we’ll all meet up there.”

Mack was in trouble? She wasn’t too surprised at that since the red ranger listened to his heart more than his head. Sure.. things between her and Rose..she didn’t want to think about. But their leader needed help and she wasn’t going to abandon her friends.

“I’m on my way.”

Everyone had arrived at the same time and they rushed over to the Sword of Excelsior’s location . Rose had quickly explained Mack’s arrival and where he could be. Dax and Will were ahead of them and Ronny could have easily caught up with them but she ran beside Rose and Tyzonn.

“Why is Mack going after the sword?” Ronny asked.

“Well the sword potentially holds a lot of power. I think Mack is going to use it to help the veteran rangers.” Rose responded, looking at her briefly before looking straight ahead. It confused and hurt Ronny.

There was an awkward tension, even Tyzonn was feeling it as he looked confused. Right.. the others probably don’t know about the break up. This isn’t a time to deal with their relationship, right now Mack needs them.

They found Mack confronting Thrax, Dax quickly jumped and kicked Thrax’s weapon away. Ronny could see the way Mack’s face lit up upon seeing them. They watched Thrax struggle as the Goddess protected the sword before he threw a fit and left in a flash.

Dax went to give it a shot, Will and Rose making space for him. Will stood next to Mack but Rose.. Rose’s attention was on Dax but she was moving closer to her. The yellow ranger thought Rose would want to stay away from her. But her ex was almost next to her.. which was surprising.

Ronny couldn’t think about it more as Dax flung back and they caught him. A sense of defeat ran through her as the sword didn’t budge. The Goddess probably thought of them as unworthy because they lost their powers. They were on their way to leave, when Mack tells them he’s not leaving, not without the sword.

They went to help him, Ronny reaching over to touch the sword, but she accidentally places her hand over someone else's.

Rose’s hand.

The two of them stare at each for a moment, something pulsing through Ronny’s hand. That familiar feeling of holding hands when they walk to the mansion. Sometimes Ronny would speed up so slightly and Rose would hold onto her as she tried to keep up, but she was laughing. Ronny almost wanted to keep their hold, tighten but she let go, knowing it was for the best. Although she swore she saw Rose’s face drop when she let go and grabbed the sword.

They all pulled on the sword together and the Goddess awoke, thankfully giving it to them. Mack took off quickly, mentioning that the other rangers might need help. Of course, they followed him back.

“You guys stay here.” Mack said when they arrived at the Megazord battle. The FlashPoint was taking a heavy beating from the monster.

“Are you crazy? You’re running in there unmorphed!”

“I have the sword. I know it’ll help me.” Mack responds as he runs into the fight. The rest of them watched as the fight continued, although Ronny felt someone looking at her. From the corner of her eye, she could see Rose staring at her. At this point, Ronny is confused. She knows she’s not supposed to think about their relationship but it’s not like they’re doing anything right now. She tapped Rose’s shoulder, much to the pink ranger surprise and they walked a few feet away from the others.

“Okay, I’m not angry at you. But.. I really want to know why you broke up with me.” Ronny started. Rose seemed uncomfortable and stared at the ground

“I said it was for the best..”

“Is it really for the best when you still love me? You keep staring at me.. I noticed how sad you were when I let go of your hand!”

Ronny didn’t mean for that last part to come out so loudly. She’s still heartbroken about the breakup and wanted an answer. Why did Rose break up with her when it was clear she still loved her?

“I.. I didn’t want to get hurt-“

“Did I. I hurt you..? I didn’t-”

“No.. It’s not you. I told you that. I-“

The ground shakes. There was a lot of rubble flying around, Mack was in the middle of it as it landed. They could hear the rangers celebrating the monster’s defeat

“Oi! Rose, Ronny! You gotta head back to base.” Will called for them, gesturing for them to hurry. Ronny almost wanted to ignore Will so she could get her answer. But Rose sighed

“I’ll tell you when we get back. I promise.”

Chapter Text

In a way, Ronny was glad that they had to wait a little more before action. She was happy that the team was together again but it also gave them some time before the next battle.

The extra time also meant that they could finally. Rose had whispered for Ronny to go in her bedroom. The place where she had decided to break up with her.

Now Ronny was waiting for Rose to come after she helped Adam and Mr Hartford with the morphers. There wasn’t much for the yellow ranger to do but wait. She packed all her personal belongings and it just left a plain desk and bed. It left her to think about the coming conversation

Ronny would get her answer but what could happen after they talk. It would
lessen the awkwardness and at least they focus on Thrax and the other factions that want the jewels.

But..

Even if Ronny didn’t want to accept it.. Their relationship probably wasn’t going back to what it was before. Maybe not now.. or even in the future. Maybe she overreacted back there. Maybe Rose just doesn’t feel the same and.. Ronny would have to accept it, no matter how much it made her heartache.

The door opened and Rose quietly walked in, shutting it behind her. She doesn’t say anything at first, staring at the floor. It was so awkward, especially being in the room where their relationship ended. Ronny almost wanted to start the conversation but she already put a lot of pressure on Rose to talk. She should let her start. And she did. Rose sighed and began.

“I’m sorry.” Rose wrapped her arms around herself, it urged Ronny to comfort her but she forced herself not to. She could make things worse.

“..I loved every moment of our relationships. Even the ones in battle. You were nothing but loving toward me. I didn’t want to get hurt again.”

“Hurt..? Did I-“

“No. You didn’t hurt me.. It’s just.. You know my parents are horrible. They didn’t want anything with me.” Rose clarified quickly.

“My college professors practically raised me. And there was one who helped me the most. She was there for me every time and.. she really cared but she had to transfer to another college and she’d promise that she would be there for me. But she never answered my phone or came back to visit. She was busy and probably had a life outside of college but.. it hurted so much. You have to travel so far for your career and I was scared it wouldn’t work out. This is sounding like an excuse but it’s not. I know I hurt you and I was being selfish and-

The genius stopped her ramble when she felt Ronny embraced. She knew she didn’t deserve it, the safety and calmness of the hug but Rose almost relaxed instinctively.

“I never thought about what would happen after our mission was done.” Ronny said softly as she rested her head in Rose’s hair. “But.. I wouldn’t have abandoned you.” Ronny pulled back just a bit so Rose could look. She finally looked her in the eyes. There was so much guilt and regret in those eyes.

“I love my job and it does take me everywhere. But there is a schedule with it. I get time off between seasons and I prioritize the people I love. My family of course.. and you as well.” Then Ronny remembered their relationship. “If we were still together.”

“I’m sorry.” Rose said again. “I don’t know what I was thinking.. I wasn’t thinking. I.. I still love you but I get if you-“

“Of course I still love you.” Ronny whispered, holding Rose’s surprised face. “I want to be with you. I want to be your love. I want to be the one holding you and kissing you..”

Ronny’s not sure who started it but their lips collided and it turned into a make out session. It didn’t matter. Ronny was enjoying iy. Rose did too. Her hands were moving all over Ronny’s body and she made happynoises. They parted lips to breathe for a moment before they pulled each other in to continue. Eventually they found themselves collapsing onto the bed, panting but happy and content.

“I missed that.” Ronny said as Rose curled up closer to her.

“Me too, love.” Rose whispered. The yellow ranger grinned hearing the affectionate nickname her girlfriend used. She gives her another kiss, and Rose giggles. The alarm goes off and the two rangers get up knowing that it was probably Thrax.

“After we defeat that sucker, how about we can make up for all the time we spent away from each other.” Ronny suggested

“I like the sound of that.” Rose replied. Her love held her hand out and she grabbed it. Ronny thought about using her speeding power but she decided not. She wanted to spend even this little time with just her girlfriend so they ran to the base.

Maybe there were bigger bumps in their relationship that they never expected but they’ll get through together. They were never going to let their relationship break again.
