Work Text:
As I stared straight into the sun, I found I couldn't feel it's burn.
It let me see it's glorious eminence. Bask in it's radiant light. Bear witness to Sol and his chariot.
Blindness be damned, stare I did. I could not feel the pain, nor the burning. All I felt was radiance, then it spoke.
The Sun asked me thusly, "Why do you continue to stare at the heavens? Knowing it pains you so?"
I answered. To stare up at the heavens, to strive beyond my own limitations. To go beyond that which is human and mortal. To see the border, to be one with the heavenly. To feel what it is to be God.
For this, he melted my wings and struck me down, sending me to the seas. Yet, even in my fast approach to death, I find I was satisfied. For I may not have reached Heaven. But I saw and felt it enough to challenge a God, which is a heaven they could never reach.
