Chapter Text
Izuku hates the hospital. Yeah, fucking hypocrisy. He goes to the hospital every time he goes on a bigger mission. And yet...this time it's really boring and underwhelming for some reason. Hell, he should be happy and celebrating that this goddamn war is over, that he made it out alive and in one piece. Well, as much of a one piece as possible. What is he gonna do once he gets out? He's quirkless again, which makes life feel even more shitty. "I shouldn't feel like this!" he thinks to himself. It's his own fault that he's a useless Deku again! He chose this himself! And yet...these thoughts don't make the bad feelings go away. Pain, hopelessness, loneliness, maybe even...envy... He doesn't really know how to explain it but every time his friends come to visit and talk about how cool it will be when everyone will heal and they will be back to school...he feels envy. He envies them. He envies them, because they were just born with quirks. They didn't have to wait 14 years to have a chance and yet he's the one left with no powers now. He knows that he shouldn't feel like this and yet...he still feels like this.
Izuku's thoughts are interrupted by a certain loud blonde who storms in and plops down on the chair that is next to his hospital bed. Katsuki has been doing that for a while. Just coming into Izuku's room, sitting down and silently enjoying his presence (even though he'll never admit the last part...). Izuku feels at ease around Katsuki, which is still a pretty new feeling. A year ago, he would've dreaded being stuck in the same building with this former bully. But he's different now. He apologized, seriously and sincerely. And it showed, Katsuki cared, he stopped his jerk problem and even helped him in very subtle ways. Katsuki brought him food and even fed him when his arms were both in casts. He even gave him an All Might plushie that the Bakugo parents brought for their son (yes, he's a fanboy but just very good at hiding it!).
Katsuki: "Want some?"
He says as he hands Izuku a packet of the vending machine Capri-Sun juice. It's his favorite flavour too... By this point, the negative thoughts are gone as the boy happily takes the juice and starts sipping at it.
Katsuki: "So? Getting any better?"
Izuku: "Yeah. My movements still feel kinda sluggish though..."
Katsuki: "Well at least it is some progress..."
Izuku was quiet for a few moments. He didn't know whether to ask this or not...but he does anyway and in a very quiet tone asks:
Izuku: "...How's your heart doing?..."
Katsuki frowned a little and looked down at the floor, the Capri-Sun now feeling way colder against his hand.
Katsuki: "I don't have chest pains anymore so there's that..."
Izuku: "Oh, okay..."
Katsuki: "And it's been feeling calmer lately..."
Izuku: "Good."
Izuku usually detects Katsuki's lies like a damn lie detector. But he was honest this time and didn't downplay it. Katsuki knew that he can't anyway, Izuku knows him too well.
Izuku: "Hey uh...thanks for the juice..."
Katsuki: "No problem...there's a vending machine on the way here anyway..."
Izuku: "Oh yeah, I think I saw it once. I needed to get administared some pain medicine..."
Katsuki: "Yeah..."
Katsuki feels even worse now. He hates seeing the stupid nerd with stupid injuries and pain. Fucking doormat...
Izuku doesn't really know what to say... They are still awkward, that's for sure. So just silence for now, just enjoy the nice human company. Everything's alright.
At least for now...
