Pound per Pound

Summary:

Lux has had a terrible day at work, luckily there’s someone at home who will happily make it better

Lightcannon week 2025 - day 3 ~ no one can make them sad/happy but me

Work Text:

Lux’s day has been downright awful. Her job was draining on a good day but today everyone seemed keen on testing her patience.

She genuinely couldn’t think of a single positive customer interaction and she was still seething about it half way home. Honestly, she just wanted to get home, plop into bed (preferably with Jinx cuddled up to her), and sleep until tomorrow has passed.

And she had half the mind to act on her plan when she’d opened the door to their apartment when a suspiciously Jinx sized truck crashed into her and wrapped her in a tight hug.

Returning the hug she looked down as her girlfriend let a small giggle. And if that alone didn’t brighter her mood already she’d need to be checked for illness.

“I missed you,” Jinx allowed herself one more moment to nuzzle into Luz’s neck before pulling back and grinning up at her “guess what!”

Jinx grabbed her wrist and excitedly pulled her inside, Lux managing to close the door as she was hurriedly brought to the kitchen.

The second she stepped into the apartment -let alone the kitchen - the smell of smoke hit her almost as hard as Jinx’s hugs

“You started a fire?” She mused. Which is a fair assumption, knowing Jinx.

“Well, yes. But! I also got us Jericho’s to make up for it,” Jinx gestured to the dining table that she had set up. “And I got something for after dinner too” she wriggled her eyebrows which caused Lux to let a small giggle.

It was a small table, or, smaller than the tables Lux had grown up with (thank the gods). Set up with a candle lit in the center and both their usual orders right next to each other.

Lux couldn’t ask for anything better.

Blinking away the tears that had started to well up she sat down with Jinx and happily listened to her talk about all her adventures that day, which was a surprising amount of tasks they’ve been meaning to do, Jinx ended her rant a short bit after they’d finished dinner.

“Wanna know what was on sale at the store?” Jinx leaned in close and stole a quick kiss before Lux could even answer. She stood up just as suddenly too.

Walking to the fridge she opened the door just to reveal that it was stuffed to the brim with singular sized cakes. To the point it looked like some stuff had been removed just to make space.

“Cakes! It was pound for a pound and these cakes are a pound each, so I grabbed thirteen of them.” The air of casualness that Jinx had said it made it seem like it was the most obvious thing to do.

“…Thirteen?”

“Yup! Oh! And other stuff like ice cream, ice cream cake,” Jinx started opening cabinets and grabbing other snacks “candy, popcorn, and, of course! Popcorn seasoning!”

Moving to the couch, putting on some random slasher movie, and surrounded by an absurd amount of sweets was nothing compared to having Jinx pressed against her side, head on her shoulder, arm looped with hers, and feeling trying to fight sleep. The perfect ending to a terrible day and if Lux could come home to this, to her, everyday walking to hell and back would be very least Lux would be willing to do.
