Work Text:
Loss, Unexpected
They were prepared for Arthur, or as prepared as one could be to say good-bye to one's father.
He had been ill for many years due to a curse that would not leave him, despite his many trips to St. Mungo's.
His death had been expected (and a relief if the rest of the family were honest with themselves – he could finally breathe – he wasn't suffering any longer).
Molly, however, was unexpected. It was too close to Arthur's, and, not to mention, too soon.
No one saw her death coming.
She wasn't even sick!
A little over a week after burying her husband, she complained to Ginny about feeling off, and Ginny, to her biggest regret, didn't necessarily take it seriously thinking her mum was in the midst of grief.
Ginny, distracted by her children, told her mum to try taking a nap to see if she would feel better.
Molly tried.
A short while later, Molly was in the fireplace telling Ginny something was wrong and that maybe she should go to St. Mungo's.
Molly never wanted to go to St. Mungo's.
Luna, luckily, was visiting and she offered to watch the children so Ginny and Ron, who was visiting as well, could get to the Burrow and take Molly to St. Mungo's as soon as possible.
Molly was immediately admitted to St. Mungo's and the healers started to spew big words at the Weasley children and their spouses, which only Hermione could understand and she tried her best to translate to the rest of them.
One thing that everyone kept repeating that her children understood – Molly was very sick.
The healer's tried.
Molly kept getting sicker.
The healer's needed to sedate her (only Ron and Ginny were there before Molly went to sleep – she told them she loved them and they told her they would be there when she woke up).
Molly seemed to be holding her own – if not getting better – and the healers' started to wean the potions that she was on.
But she suddenly took a turn for the worse.
And a decision needed to be made.
All of her children, spouses, and grandkids were in the room with her as she took her lasts breathes (singing and talking, just being the family that Molly always loved to dote on).
No one saw this coming, but Molly and Arthur were together now and they were with Fred.
