"you're hired!" johnny drummed his hands on the table, a grin on his face.
"thank you, mister storm." you smile back, organizing the papers you had brought with you into a neat pile.
"call me johnny! oh, let me introduce you to the others!" he gets up, heading down the small staircase that lead to the conversation pit.
"ben, who you met earlier." johnny clapped a hand on ben's shoulder, earning an eye roll.
"hey, kid. congrats on the job." ben stands up, extending his hand to you.
you shake his hand, "thanks. i can't wait to get started!"
"have you seen my sister around here? i wanna introduce them." johnny asks.
"last i heard, she and reed were in the lab." ben looks down at his watch, "i should get started on dinner. are you eating with us?"
"oh, i'm not sure-"
johnny cuts you off, "of course she is! she's part of the family now!"

the two of you take the elevator to the lab, the first thing you see is doctor richards sitting at his desk, his wife sitting on his lap while he explained something to her.
"what are we working on?" johnny walks around the desk, trying to peek at whatever it was they were looking at.
"we're working on nothing. i was showing sue the new research on-" reed turns his head as he spots
you.
"who's this?" sue smiles, standing up and taking a step closer to you.
you tell them your name, a nervous smile on your lips.
"it's nice to meet you. you're staying for dinner?" she asks, blue eyes scanning over you.
"johnny invited me, if that's okay?" you glance at johnny, not wanting to overstep.
"of course it's okay, gives us a chance to get to know you better." reed stands, rolling up his sleeves.

it was nearly midnight before you stumbled through your apartment door, kicking off your shoes in the entryway.
you look at the small box in your hand, having fought the urge to ignore reed's instructions of waiting until you got home before opening it.
you collapse on the couch, opening the box and picking up the item inside - a watch, just like the ones the four of them wear.
there was a sticky note on the lid of the box, reading, "welcome to the family!" in doctor richards' handwriting.
you fasten the watch around your wrist, the screen lighting up with their logo.
you smile to yourself, closing your eyes and letting out a tired sigh.
when you went in for a second interview today, you didn't expect to get the job so quickly. you didn't expect to get thrown into their world and lives so fast. but after the dinner you had with them, getting to know them - you wouldn't have it any other way.
