The Price of Sin vs. Why We Ignore It

Summary:

An angel is sent to kill a demon. But when she ends up being more attractive than he expected, does he follow his orders, or does he give in to temptation?

Notes:

Hey, readers! This was another really fun challenge, honestly. I really hope you enjoy this little AU as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Work Text:

The guy who didn’t like singing shows, believing them to be sinful, flew into the demon world of Htchtfld. He didn’t quite know how to pronounce it, but he didn’t mind. He didn’t need to know. Besides, his mind stuck to one thing, one thing only. He needed to hunt.

The Lord blessed him with two new missions: find the succubus, Perkins, then kill her. He didn’t like the thought much, but his job required it. He couldn’t do much else but rid the world of the demons. He couldn’t disobey.

So the cherubim flitted into Htchtfld, setting his feet firmly on the fiery molten ground when his wings grew tired.

“Ok. Ok. Ok. This is fine. I’m ok. I’m not going to die here. I’m going to find Perkins, destroy her, then return to Eden before enjoying some nice coffee. Ok. Ok.”

He continued on, eyes skimming the weird, horrifying world he found himself in. Music found his ossicles. He looked round the mounds of piled up bones for the source of the sound. There, hiding behind one of the short piles, stood Perkins, the demon herself.

“Hello, hottie. Come to explore my neck of the woods? Let me bring you home with me, cutie.” She breezed over with levels of poise he’d never seen. His blood went swimming through his veins. This feeling… How new. How odd.

“Don’t come closer, Perkins. I’ve been sent to kill you, not surrender to your… sex-fueled whims.

She chuckled in response. “So you’re the celebrity demon hunter going off killing our kind. Don’t you ever feel guilty? Regret your choice of work? I figure you’ve got so much blood on your skin, on your clothes, in your memories. How do you cope with the night terrors?”

“I shut them out, tell myself I’m ok. It’s the only thing I know how to do.”

Her smirk turned into some sort of frown. “Why don’t you come home with me? We’ll spend some sweet time together, something to… help you unwind from everything you do.”

“Um, ok. Ok, I guess. Sure.”

“There’s the good boy I knew you’d be. So needy. Doesn’t God ever love you? Does he ever touch you? Does he even listen to you? His top demon hunter, so neglected. It’s cruel, honestly. You deserve so much better.”

The guy who didn’t like singing shows nodded slightly in response. She knew too much, incredibly enough. She seemed so smug, like she’d crushed him under her shoe. “How… how did you know?”

“Pretty little cherubims like you come here neglected frequently. I give them the love they’ve needed their whole lives but never let themselves be honest with themselves ‘bout. You’re no different from the rest of them. If only you could see the truth of those feelings you’ve got.” Her fingers glided on his shoulder before moving up his neck.

He shuddered slightly under her touch. “I swore to myself I’d kill you…”

She giggled, her voice lowering, becoming some slightly sexier growl. “Oh, sweet thing. They vow they’ll kill me every time. Not one of them ever does it.”

It felt like months went by before the demon hunter prepped himself to exit Htchtfld. Only two weeks went by in truth, but it felt much, much longer. He wished he could linger there longer, smell her sweet perfume once more, feel her lips on his once more. Something struck him like lightning, something he never should’ve thought of. He fell in love with the very succubus he’d been sent to kill.

Perkins giggled, observing his lingering form by the exit. “Stuck on me, honey? You wouldn’t be the first.” She stopped for one brief moment, her confidence softened into… something else. Something he didn’t recognize in her. “But, uh, you’re the first I’m inviting to stick ‘round here. I don’t get lots of guests. You’re so sweet. You’ve got me feeling things I’ve never felt. Not just this intense drive to control every guy I meet. No… I think I love you.”

He turned to look in her direction, his wings folding behind him. “You… love me?”

“Two weeks will do lots to someone like me. Nobody’s ever lingered here quite so long, you know?”

“But our love is forbidden.”

“But how do you think you’ll feel if you give up now? Lonely, depressed, neglected? You shouldn’t return to such cruel living.”

“If only you could come with me. But cloud nine won’t let demons live there. Bliss should not be corrupted by evil. God would throw me down from kingdom come if I brought you with me…” His mouth went dry, his thoughts cycling. “You should come with me. Then I’ll need to live with you! God will fire me! We’ll be together!”

“Ok. If you’re sure…”

“I’m sure.”

“Ok.”

“Ok.”

So they journeyed up to Eden together, fingers intertwined the entire time.

God’s voice thundered throughout Eden when he noticed the two of them together. “Cherubim? Did you truly bring such devilish whims into my kingdom? Your wings’re turning ebony. You’ve been corrupted! How could you defy me so?”

“My Lord, I love her! Why won’t you forgive her? She’s innocent.”

“She condemned you to eternity in Htchtfld with her. Go. Be out of my sight!”

The two lovebirds left the holy heights together. They weren’t upset by how the fight ended. No, they were content. They could be together now. They could live merrily together forevermore.

So they did. The succubus corrupted the very soul of the cherubim so he could survive in Htchtfld forever. From there, they lived together, quite the perfectly lovely little couple.
