The Golden Hour (Wish you were here)

Summary:

“You always find a moment to stop and live the moment, don’t you, super Max?” That familiar voice, hugging you as it flowed toward you, was enough to make you smile wider. You closed your eyes and tiled your head into a waiting hand, one of your own raising to find hers in that place that had became its home.

Air.

Notes:

Soooo, well, hi, it's been a while, I hope you're in for a little angst, cause I was feeling a little feisty <3 This is a rewrite of something I wrote on Fanfiction.net AGES ago, I'm gonna leave the link here, but just so you know it's in Spanish lmao.

Anyways, feast on this, not on me, please, I'm just a messenger of the wicked ideas that come to my brain :).

This fanfic is tastier if you listen to Wish you Were Here by Incubus while reading, it was inspired by that song, so thank you to Incubus for being such a badass band!

Work Text:

You closed your eyes as you opened your arms wide as like welcoming the saltine breeze howling in your ears and grazing your naked skin. Despite all of the weight that had been pushing your heart closer to the center of the earth, you smiled. Gently. Coyly. And it fluttered in the same way the wings of the butterfly you knew, oh, so well, did.

You’ve taken your shoes off, so your feet were tethered on the gentle and moist warmth of the sand as seagulls wailed. Waves broke with their delicate music, shrouded by not even a single sound. At peace once again.

Pearls of sun scattered in the ocean were the first thing you saw when you opened your eyes again. Your black dress kept fluttering to the dance of the wind.

“You always find a moment to stop and live the moment, don’t you, super Max?” That familiar voice, hugging you as it flowed toward you, was enough to make you smile wider. You closed your eyes and tiled your head into a waiting hand, one of your own raising to find hers in that place that had became its home.

Air.

Your head bobbed, trapped midair and your hand found only the touch of your cheek, eroded of all heat by the sea breeze.

You opened your eyes.

Arcadia Bay stood. Where it has been standing for so many years. Golden showered it as if it was a city of gold, so precious, so prideful, claiming its right to exist in am almost blatant way.

And you came crashing down.

The small grains scraped her knees as her chest rose and collapsed in sobs, tears partially hindering the sight of the town.

Memories could’ve catched up to the sun, catch up to the wind, watch up to the faith that tore you in half, because that city, that town that stood peaceful before you, with its people and it’s houses and its curses and its secrets, was alive. You have decided to keep it alive.

But at what cost?

You made that choice.

Of course this is what you wanted. What you two wanted. To help. To stop the storm.

But the hole Chloe Price has left in your chest was something that would be gaped open.

Forever.

“Chloe…I wish you were here…”
