A Slumber Party in Metropolis

Summary:

A simple summer story for fans of Supergirl. After all, what’s a better earth tradition for Kara to experience than a slumber party. I think Kara and Lois could be good friends. Imagine if Kara and Lois Lane met as children.

Work Text:

It was a dark and stormy night in Metropolis with storm clouds blanketing the sky as rain drops crashed down to earth with lightning ripping across the sky. However, despite the nightmarish setting the city was at peace with citizens safely in their homes watching movies to calm themselves as they wait for the storm to pass. In Lois Lane's apartment she was in her pajamas watching tv with her houseguest, Clark's cousin Kara. Kara was in the city visiting Clark and Jimmy with Kara deciding to spend the night in the city. Lois invited Kara to her apartment for the night as Clark and Jimmy didn't really have enough room. Lois gave Kara a spare pair of pajama pants and a spare t-shirt. Lois was a bit hesitant to have Kara over but she decided to have Kara over as she didn't give Kara a fair chance at their first meeting.

Kara asked Lois, "Lois, seeing as I am here in the city for the night I was hoping we could engage in the earth ritual known as the sleepover. I have read about this subject and have found some very entertaining material on this subject though those examples had some unusual end results." Lois giggled and replied, "Let me guess did those examples invlove cartoon ponies and a large tree?" Kara blushed in embarassment and replied, "I was merely using the tool you humans call the internet and that was the material it provided. That material also lead me to an earth program that taught me much about the subject of friendship, which has been very helpful." Lois then realized something and exclaimed, "Wait is that why the guy at the bakery also saves you the first doughnut of the day every morning?" Kara explained that she show the baker kindness and he was kind to her in return especially after helping him with some of the heavy boxes he was moving into the bakery. Lois was struck silent as the kryptonian that came to earth was blending into Earth and being more human than her.

After being struck silent by Kara's response and said that she would love to have a sleepover with Kara. In truth while Lois was hesitant to have Kara over she was very exited about having a sleepover (her inner child was giggling in excitement, clapping and, cheering "Yay slumber party!"). Lois decided to start the sleepover with the classic earth activity of painting each other's nails with Lois intrigued by how gentle Kara was with the nail polish brush. Kara explained, "I can tell that you are surprised by how dexterous I am. I have been learning from Kal - Clark how to be more gentle. I have also been taking some art classes at the Metropolis Community Center and found it to be quite entertaining. My teacher seemed impressed with my work and put them in an earth building called a gallery where some humans purchased my art. I was a bit confused but when my teacher handed me a check for my work I was happy that some humans appreciated my artwork." Lois replied, "Wow, I never would have pegged you as an artist Kara. I figured you would have picked up something like boxing or football?" Kara gave a smug smile and replied, "As you humans say, don't judge a book by its cover. In addition to my hobby of art I work at Cadmus as a security guard where some thiefs assumed I was fragile because I was a female. Though they seemed to change their mind after I, as you humans say, opened a can of whooping on them which taught them a painful lesson."

After the nail painting, Lois and Kara decided to engage in another sleepover custom: eating a sickening amount of junk food and bingewatching tv shows. Lois ordered two meat lover's pizza as well as two orders of buffalo wings to start the night. Lois and Kara decided to start the night binge watching that new game show: I Double Dare You, Dude! Lois and Kara were laughing and eating happily with Kara enjoying Lois' company in adition to tasting some new earth junk food. Kara was a bit confused about the antics of the game show contestant's but found it very amusing especialy when one of the contestant was getting his face scratched by kitten when he tried to shave the little kitten. Kara let out a loud laugh and exclaimed, "That is very humorous. The small kitten is easily defeating that tall man. Perhaps cats are smarter than some humans." Lois replied, "Well in all fairness Kara, that guy chose to try to shave that cat and his haircut can tell you he is not that smart. Though I'm not much of a cat person I like dogs better since their so loyal." Kara responed, "I suppose that is a fair point and dogs do seem rather friendly. Everytime I stroll through the park the dogs do seem more friendly than that cat cafe I occasionaly visit." Lois responded, "Yeah I've been to that cafe too and the kittens are nice but they seem pretty distant. The cafe does serve good coffee though." Kara replied, "Very true my work friend Rudy Jones told me of this cat cafe and he was very much correct about the coffee. It was very good especially with that cold foam stuff."

As the night was going on the storm eventually faded until it stopped close to midnight with the clouds slowly drifting apart letting the full moon shine down on the city. Lois and Kara decided to engage in another classic earth slumber party tradition: gossiping about boys and crushes. Kara was a bit hesitant as she was a bit embarrased about her not so secret crush on Jimmy. Lois and Kara were talking with Lois telling Kara a funny story of when her and Clark tried to rescue a kitten from a tree, "So Clark volunteered to get the kitten but I really wanted to be the hero so I told Clark that his shoe was untied so when he bent over to check I jumped on his back and leapt to the branch the kitten was on and grabbed it. I gently leapt off when Clark caught me then I handed the kitten back to the little girl and she said thanks but Clark said I need to be more careful." Kara replied, "While Clark can be a bit of a, what you humans call, a wet blanket he is correct in the sense that you need to be careful. You do seem to do rather danergous things for a story but you seem adept at navigating dangerous situations." Kara then began telling Lois about some of her misadventures with Jimmy Flamebird in helping him find paranormal activity. Kara and Lois decided to turn in for the night with Lois deciding to break out the spare sleeping bags she had in her closet and setting them up in the living room. This was indeed a very good night for Kara and Lois as they each got something they both needed and wanted. Kara got to experience a classic earth tradition and finally earned Lois Lane's best friendship. Lois was able to once again have a childhood experience she loved, a slumber party with a friend, and learned a bit more about Kara.
