Work Text:

Medkit was exhausted and tired, lost in the desert in The Lost Temple faction. He knew his boss would kill him for this; She wont be happy to see the man acting like a zombie for another day.
After tripping and stumbling a stray, he found his way to a grassy field just barely outside the territory of his "home". It was like he collapsed on the soft turf of land, falling to land on his back harshly like a self-punishment for being so dimwitted. Sighing heavily, he gazed up at the moon while dissociating out of his own body.
He couldn't notice the footsteps approaching him. They were loud, like the perpetrator was stomping out of anger. The figure causing the ruckus gave Medkit a small kick in his side to gain his wanted attention.
"Your little cult keeps trying to kill me! It's funny. At least I've found you again, Meddy..." Subspace exclaims to his enemy, menacingly leaning over him in an attempt to be intimidating. Medkit was slow to processing Subspace's existence above him.
"What's the matter? You look like you've seen a ghost." Subspace proceeded with his words, then hearing a response, finally;
"No, I've only seen a rotting, walking corpse I won't ever heal."
Subspace snarled behind his mask at the rude remark, speaking out again. "Well, you're just so kind tonight, aren't you, Meddy?" Medkit stays silent, starting to flutter his eyes closed. The scientist was in a dilemma; keep standing or lay down next to the asocial inphernal. He wanted to get a reaction, so he decided to rest next to him on the grass particularly close together. Medkit scooted away, bothered by this. No verbal response. Subspace spoke to him,
"This feels like the old times, doesn't it? Maybe if you were more open," halting his sentence to move closer,
"we could be BUDDIES again! Hear me?" Medkit groaned out of annoyance at this.
"No," he said quickly and dryly to put a stop to his rivals useless ranting.
It was as quiet as a mouse around them now, the two staring at the moon. "The moon is pretty tonight, isn't it?" Subspace blurted out out of nowhere. Medkit exhaled, dramatized enough for Subspace to hear his irritation. He did back off, but after a moment, Subspace reached out to graze Medkit's hand with the tip of his finger ever so gently, contrasting his usual manic movements.
The doc shoved his hand away, but Subspace went in again to touch his fingers.
With no negative response the second time around, he swiftly interlocked their fingers, tight, as if he would never let go. Medkit didn't fight back against it, astonishingly. He wasn't bothered to care that much, he thought.
Knowing his monotone way to express his feelings, Subspace knew to feel honored for this reaction.
Medkit tightened his grasp on Subspace's hand lovingly, turning his head to find the eyes of a man deep in love with someone he shouldn't be with, ever.
The pair while tenderly holding each others hands changed their view to the moon once again. Medkit, worn out and spent from the day, soon fell asleep from the exhaustion and comfort he was given. Subspace took a moment to adore his sleeping face, sitting up slowly in the moonlight. He made sure to never loosen that grip he had with Medkit's hand.
He took a moment to pick up his free hand and affectionately caress his rival's face, over his eyepatch, over his cheek.
Then, soon settled down next to him, drawn closer this time to Medkit. Soon, Subspace found himself shutting his eyes, leisurely deepening his breathing to soon sleep in a content state with Medkit.
