Work Text:
You heard the familiar sound of the front door opening. Your eyes gazing up expectantly at the figure entering, who seemed to do the exact same thing as you. His eyes immediately landing on you and a small smile gracing his lips. "Hey, you."
"Welcome home, Jinnie." You closed the book you were reading, discarding it to your side as you made your way as fast as you can to your lover who was busy toeing off his shoes. You stood by the foyer, waiting for him and his usual kiss that he gave you. Once he was in his house slippers, his hands wrapped around your torso as he planted a kiss on your cheek.
"Smells good, did you cook, babe?" His head angled questionably as you slowly pulled him into the apartment. "Yup! I got home early so I started on dinner. Have you eaten?" You motioned to the food on the stove as he peered into the clear lids of the still warm pots and pans. Your question was left unanswered as he turned to you with a sparkle in his eyes, obviously excited.
"How about a dinner date?" You caught on to his excitement, smiling wide. "Dinner date, it is!"
He immediately got the foldable table and chairs from the storage room and began setting up the balcony as you placed some of the food onto plates. As you carried the plates to the balcony, Hyunjin had the chance to grab a bottle of wine and glasses. You even swiped one of the living room candles and placed it on the table, not even noticing that the flame had already gone with the wind.
This set-up was a good compromise for the busy weeks when you both can't schedule dinner dates outside. It was something that can be done at the spur of the moment, which worked well with your boyfriend who seemed to enjoy spontaneous plans.
"My lover." He pulled out your chair and you giggled at the silliness. "Thank you, wow, the service is great here." He laughed as you sat down and pushed your chair in. He sat across from you and opened the wine. He poured into your glass first and then his. Both of you lifted your wine and clinked the rims, creating a satisfying sound.
"This looks good, babe, thank you for cooking." He looked at the pasta you made, twirling some into his fork. You waited for him to take a bite, and as he did, his eyebrows had scrunched, and he hummed in satisfaction. "That's really good." Despite the cool air passing through your balcony, you felt warm and content with the sight of your boyfriend. You started on your plate as well.
"How was work?" You asked in between bites. He leaned back on his chair, staring through the city skyline.
"It was okay, work is work. It wasn't too hard today. But something funny did happen-" As he started recalling the lunch mishap with his workmates, Felix and Jeongin, you couldn't help but burst into laughter as well. It seems as if both of your worries from the week had faded as the both of you recharged with the company of each other. The evening continued as you both enjoyed your food and wine, talking about whatever seemed to be interesting or mundane to share. Maybe this is what they meant when you fall in love with your best friend; there wasn't a moment that was boring. Every moment was as pretty as the morning sky when the sun rose and the night sky when the stars sparkled.
You glanced back at your boyfriend, taking in his figure as he continued to talk. Without even noticing yourself, you had suddenly spoken up when he paused. "I love you."
He choked and stared at you wide eyed. His hand raising up to his chest. "I love you too, honey, but that caught me off guard." He composed himself, relaxing again but his cheeks burst into a shade of pink. He seemed to forget what he was talking about. "I love you very much." He repeated, "Is something bothering you? Something you want to tell me?"
"No particular reason. Just suddenly thought of how lucky I am sitting here in our small balcony, just enjoying this night with you." You admit that the sudden confession had you blushing and feeling ten times as warm. Maybe it was from being full, or maybe just being with the love of your life that had sent you confessing your heart out.
His eyes crinkled at the corners, before he stood up and made his way to your side, pulling you up with him.
"Honey." He whispered as he held you close, both of your hairs dancing in the wind passing by. "I'm lucky I'm here with you." He tucked a stray hair behind your ear and rested his hand by your neck, his thumb brushing slightly on your skin. "I'm so lucky that we have nights like this, just us being us." For some reason, your eyes felt like they stung, and your vision started to blur slightly. "This is unfair, you're so pretty when you cry." He frowned as his own eyes seem to water at the burst of emotions. "I can't get my bearings right when you're so pretty like this." You lightly smacked his chest, no force in it as you smiled once again.
"I want to promise you everything, my angel. I love you with everything that I am." He planted a kiss on your lips, light and sweet as if he was afraid on pouring out so much. He was gentle, yet you felt the very being of his soul intertwine with yours. As the both of you pulled away, you buried your face into his chest, squeezing him tighter which made him chuckle. "I'm not going anywhere. If you want to leave, you have to pry yourself out of my warm and loving hands." You giggled and looked up to his face. For a moment, you felt as if the world wasn't so hard to live in, that the struggles of everyday life were nothing compared to the love you felt.
Life seems so brighter when it's made of the small moments that bring you love, happiness and comfort.
