As per rules of Super Contests, all contestants are highly encouraged to dress themselves up alongside their pokémon. Severa, of course, took that aspect very seriously. Plus, it was the perfect excuse to splurge on the latest fashion trends! Not that she needed to justify her behavior to anyone, but being a coordinator gave her some leeway. After all, how could Severa expect to impress the judges if her whole wardrobe was outdated?
However, being meticulously prepared did not prevent all disasters. Whether it be spilled lip gloss, or props falling apart five minutes before showtime, it was inevitable that something would go wrong in Severa's humble life. Today was an arduous day—a double contest meant double the effort. The competition itself, or the opponents, were of little concern to Severa. Lucina, on the other hand, was. Coordinating with the pokémon trainer was… Challenging, to say the least.
"What… is that."
Severa thought she could outsmart Lucina by preparing matching outfits in advance. By stressing the importance of a sleek dress code, Lucina gave up the awful pun shirts. But it completely slipped her mind to check the Fashion Case! Trainers across Sinnoh loved to swap accessories, regardless if they were tacky or not. Why the hell does Lucina have so many buttons?! These are completely unusable in a Super Contest, unless someone decided to glue the plastic onto their pokémon!
Outwardly, Severa tried her best to appear non-judgmental, and calm. Key word: tried . But it was painful looking at the Garchomp, who had all sorts of accessories attached. Top hat, monocle, white mask, crimson scarf, ribbons, extra claws attached to the dragon's body, yellow pompoms—it was a catastrophe. Lucina's pokémon was equipped with all sorts of accessories—this wasn't an RPG!!
"Isn't it great?" Lucina looked proud of her work. Garchomp affirmed with a cry of her own.
Severa's stress levels increased.
"What's the theme here?!"
"Since you said the dress code was sleek, I thought I should highlight the mysterious nature of my pokémon for dramatic effect. I'm glad that I kept Gerome's mask after all these years; I think it matches my Garchomp well."
Gerome , Severa gritted her teeth in annoyance. How could you do this to me! In three hours, I will skin you alive!
She breathed in. And then out.
"Okay, okay, I can work with this. It doesn't matter if it looks awful, we have an hour to fix this hot mess! That's plenty of time. This doesn't even make it to the top ten worsts moments of my life!"
With a rejuvenated spirit, Severa was more than determined to turn this into a glamorous moment! Winning a contest by traditional means was boring, after all! Double contests were all about compatibility, and she wasn't about to disappoint Lucina! They just needed to ditch the—
"How about your Vulpix wears a monocle too?" Lucina kindly offers the accessory. "Our pokémon could match, like us."
Lucina smiles.
Severa screams.
