Work Text:
Raven hunches in on himself, clenching his eyes closed. His midnight blue wings flutter above him in a panic, as if trying to protect him from himself. A glancing blow by Metropolis was enough to knock his powers off centre; his vision is zooming in and out uncontrollably and it is quickly driving him into migraine territory. He tries his breathing exercises, but nothing seems to be helping. He tugs at his primaries again and again, the pinpricks of pain providing poor distraction to the growing pounding in his head. But it is the best he has got.
There is a thud behind him and Raven whips around, wings raised in defence. Even with blurred vision, he would know that figure anywhere. Lightning Bug strolls towards him, hands raised but seemingly not a care in the world. "Hey, just me," he says. "Looks like you took a hard knock and could do with a hand."
Raven raises one eyebrow. "And what do you get out of it?" Lightning Bug has always been hot and cold; one day he will be trying to bash his face in, the next he will be offering a donut because he "looks hungry" and "clearly isn't eating enough." There is no hope of predicting his mood; it seems to swing based on the weather and alignment of the stars and who knows what else. But it perhaps seems to have swung to his favour tonight.
"Can't I just do something out of the goodness of my heart?"
"You have a heart?"
"... Fair point. But really, peace this time. You're not exactly a fair target right about now." He steps closer and Raven can feel him stand next to him at the railing, warmth radiating off his body.
There is a long pause, each waiting for the other to speak. Finally, Lightning Bug breaks. "You know what always worked for me, Raven? Distraction and heaps of sugar. Metropolis is a nasty bugger; I've been on the receiving end of that whip more than once. But weirdly enough, sugar seems to help push through it. Don't ask me the science, though."
Lightning Bug seems ... oddly sincere, which is very unlike him. Besides, the villain has all the power right now; if he was planning on causing trouble, he wouldn't be dragging things out like this. "Yeah, okay, fine. Where are you suggesting this time of night? Unless you keep a candy store in those numerous pockets of yours."
"Maybe that 24 hour diner a block or so away? I'm sure they'll have waffles or something; drown them in syrup and you'll be well on the way to recovery."
"You asking me on a date? The hero and the villain, how controversial." He waggles his eyebrows.
Lightning Bug splutters. "No! I mean, yes? I mean ..." He trails off. "Anyone, come on. Follow me." He takes Raven's hand, who allows the other to pull him away into the night.
