“Hey, wait up! Where are you going, Jinx?!”
My best friend stomped away, face flushed. Anyone else would have assumed it was anger, but I wasn’t just anyone. I’d known her since preschool, and that long experience told me she was actually embarrassed.
“Screw you, E.”
“Come on. It was just a dare. If you didn’t want to do it, it’s not a big deal” I said, knowing exactly the effect those words would have. But that’s what best friends are for.

I can't believe that worked. I’d better run.
I watched from behind the bleachers. The perfect cover for a high school student. I could see the field perfectly and remained practically invisible. I saw the exact moment they met, both of them mumbling and stuttering shyly, the smiles that bloomed, and finally the kiss. I was so excited I didn’t notice there was someone else right near me. We bumped into each other and I lost my footing, causing a chain reaction that ended with a clatter. Two pairs of eyes turned towards us, narrowing.
