Chapter 1: Ki Kyunwoo
“Isolated. That’s what I am. No one should ever be around me again. So that no one gets hurt.”
My pen taps against my desk — the endless buzz and chatter of the students around me. The silent chirp of the birds — and the wind blowing inside the classroom. So lively at 8 in the morning. I rested my head on the top of the table. I’m so tired. The lively atmosphere of the room was enough for me to get tired. Any other time — I wouldn’t feel so downcast about being isolated. Yet — it strangely feels so unfamiliar, despite the fact that I was always — and will always be. I look out the window; the sky clear,
“Listen up students —- You have a new student, so welcome him with open arms. Any incidents within the 2nd week and you all will have a penalty. Understand?” Ms. Su-hyun’s words rung in my ear. A new male student.. right in the middle of our second year. I wish he isn’t like the rest of the other students.
My prayers were in vain. He enters the classroom —- dirty blonde hair, ginger eyes, tanned — Everyone in the room was captivated by his looks. I sigh — disinterestedly. Another troublemaker to the mix; again. Cliche trope, it’s corny too.
She speaks up again; “Welcome Lee Hyunjin — our new student, Hyunjin please, introduce yourself.” She says — trying to hide her disinterest, which no one picks up on — but me. “Hello! I’m Hyunjin Lee - I’m a transfer from — blah blah blah blah..” He wouldn’t have stopped talking if the teacher didn’t cut in. Everyone cheers — some of the girls already plotting something else. “Oh my, Hyunjin-oppa is so hot,”
“HYUNJIN!!” “HYUNJIN!!” Strange, i’m getting deja vu.
“Sit in the back. Next to that one over there.” What an asshole. When he sits beside me - I look away indifferently - “.. Hmm.. Are you a guy or a girl?” *His eyes gleam with interest —, I contemplate whether or not I should answer. Maybe I should focus on not being an asshole.* “.. Neither. “ I reply curtly — disinterestedly.
