Work Text:
It was just barely 4 am when he felt little hands pressing softly into his skin, a soft voice whispering to him. He yawned softly, eyes opening slightly to a little girl with a pointy and bright smile and blonde hair to cover her head. His child, waving him to follow, got him up. Why she got him was obvious, no one was to wake Kats when he was sleeping as that was quite the dangerous task. He followed quietly behind her rubbing at his eyes knowing it was important if she was waking him. He saw what could only be described as a catastrophe let loose in the kitchen.
Food painting the walls, pans on the ground, a suspicious liquid dripping off the counter, taking it all in his eyes were wide. Definitely awake now knowing that this was bad. Katsuki had mellowed out a fair bit since high school and the pregnancy worked out his nerves. But some things, Eijiro had come to learn, would always set him off. This definitely being one of them.
"Hey sweetheart can you tell me what caused all of this…?" his voice held concern for her well being more than it held frustration over the most definite trouble they would be in should he not fix this by the time his husband woke.
A gentle point of a finger to herself explained everything.
They had never punished her if the truth came out, always working with their sweet baby girl to learn how to handle the situations she made it into. What Katsuki would have wanted in his youth, a gentle guiding hand. That was the promise they made to each other when they decided to try, they wouldn’t make the same mistakes they had witnessed in their own youth.
He nodded softly giving her a sweet smile “no worries baby let’s get the cl-“ he was cut off by her tapping a wall and he smiled nodding softly, giving her the floor to speak.
“Isa surprise” her voice soft and determined. It made the redhead smile like no tomorrow. She really did take after Katsuki after all.
He chuckles softly “ok let’s make a deal then you hide your surprise and I’ll wait right here and so you know I’m serious” he paused slowly leaning back before managing to sit his ass down on the ground before looking back to her beaming. “Daddy will stay right here and not move until you are ready” a bright smile from the blonde haired girl had her racing off. He listened as a few things clicked and crashed, it was a wonder that neither man had woken up by now. She had yet to manifest her quirk but Katsuki suspected that it would be similar to his since her teeth were already sharpening. They spend their days just teaching her about both quirks should one or a combination of the two manifest when they weren’t there right away. They wanted their girl prepared and unafraid of what she could possess.
He was pulled from his thoughts when she came back smiling brightly and her little hands waving for him to approach. He hadn't really taken the time to assess how she looked till that moment, too tired to really process any of that but he did now. Some of that dark brown liquid smeared down her bright red pajama shirt and a powder dusting her hair. Whatever it was she was definitely a mess, one more thing to fix before his husband awoke. Couldn't have him fussing over their darling little girl when he wasn't even awake enough to comprehend that the danger had passed.
He quickly moved to his knees before popping up easily, earning a soft excited giggle from her. If hero work had one benefit it was keeping them both limber enough to keep up with her. He held his hand out and she took his finger while they went to the cleaning closet. He handed her a dust pan and a small broom that said ‘Ash’s Broom’ on the handle in scribbled handwriting. He picked up a few rags and a bottle of cleanser that she knew she wasn’t allowed to touch until she was a little older. Steps, they gave her steps so she knew how to be safe.
They swung by the bedroom picking out a new top to replace the dirty one. It was of course a bit of a fight as the red one was her favorite...Katsuki had even praised her saying that the best people are in red. He really was quite a sap, but she was won over when he suggested the Dynamite themed t-shirt. She really did enjoy wearing their merchandise so he would always request one be made in her current size just so she didn't feel left out.
Soon enough back in the kitchen they went to work, her cleaning various food items from the ground moving it to the trash and Eijiro saving all the pans from being destroyed and wiping down counters. The liquid was chocolate syrup he came to find out, the sticky substance clinging to every towel he threw at it but it did finally leave. The powder that had been trapped was flour. He hadn't a clue what she had made but of course it made him curious. It took a little work but soon enough it was clean and he looked at their daughter smiling.
“Hey you were so manly coming and asking for help! Good job!” He held out his hand getting a soft high five. It was simple really, reward positive behavior and teach out the negative. She most definitely had her father’s temper but he was great at giving her tips to work through it after doing it himself for so long.
A soft beep from the other room made him realize how long they had spent cleaning and chuckles knowing that was his beloved husband’s alarm. He scooped her up smiling “let’s go wish papa a good morning hm?” A soft excited nod and a dash to the room later they made it in quick enough to see the bleary gaze in his husband’s eyes.
“Ei was lookin' fer you…” his voice soft and gravely before noticing their daughter a sleepy smile appearing “oh? And what do I owe the pleasure of my two troublemakers bein' up before I am?” He chuckled as she rushed into the bed and hugged him tight.
Eijiro hummed softly taking in the scene before speaking “Well Ash woke me up for a bit of help and we did very well but…” he trailed off looking at her knowing she would most likely want to tell him herself and didn’t want to take that from her. He was right of course seeing her light up at the opportunity to share.
“I made a surprise” she spoke excitedly tugging on the blonde to get him to follow “please? Come I want to show”
He watched the sleepy nod from his husband and he was again grateful that they had enough time to clean the disaster zone. He wouldn't have yelled, he knows that for certain but he'd definitely be distracted and distressed especially the state those pans were in. That's when he heard Katsuki speak setting Ash aside.
"Bet its gonna be the best fucking surprise baby" He rubbed her head as he stood holding out his arms. The scene was just so adorable that Eijiro absolutely melted on the spot.
Anyone who said Katsuki wouldn't be a fantastic partner, mate, or father could go to hell. Not one of them had judged him right and he trusted in the one he loved and always had. He stepped over as Ash snuggled into the blonde’s arms and leaned in kissing him softly. As he pulled away he saw that usual soft smile he got from lazy mornings, special and vulnerable. It was all for his eyes only, and Ash’s of course.
They made their way to the kitchen where she became a ball of energy pushing from Katsuki’s grasp before rushing frantically for the fridge. He hadn't even checked there for a mess, guess he was glad he hadn't. He felt Katsuki lean into him and he rested his head on his lover, his arm sliding around the blonde’s waist. It was small actions like that that he loved, gentle reminders of just how much they cared for one another as their child excitedly ran about.
What she pulled out was one singular pan, and he felt his heart race. He was worried of course with how the other pans looked that this one may look similar, she was only four but Katsuki taught their daughter often how to cook. She only had ever done it supervised though as neither of them wanted her to get hurt from a knife or burned from a pan.
She set it down for a moment removing the Saran Wrap and tossing it aside. She was really excited it seemed and had to show them as soon as possible. She waddled over and held up what looked like pancakes believe it or not.
But these weren't ordinary pancakes.
See while ordinary pancakes were blobs that cooked, these were larger and cut into shapes. One was pointy and had brown lines following each point, yellow and red swirling like some abstract painting. Another was only spiky on the top with red food coloring slowly seeping into the spikes two dots and a curved line below it. The second to last had yellow slowly seeping in and dots and a curve with a triangle connected. The last made him realize what she had made and his chest felt warm another splash of yellow on smaller spikes two dots and a small curve.
She had made them as pancakes. She really was as sweet as candy and full of surprises just like her explosive father.
This revelation wasn't lost on Katsuki as he spoke first. The soft and sweet question making Eijiro want a camera immediately. The mess had definitely been worth the surprise.
"Did our baby shark make family pancakes?" The question had her lighting up excitedly and she set the pan on the counter so she wouldn't drop her hard work.
Yeah, he had to get a camera. Not wanting to interrupt he began to rush off in search of the device before hearing the soft call out making him want to melt into nothing more than a gooey puddle.
"I did!" She giggled softly and watched Eijiro leaving and her brow furrowed "Daddy…" her voice slightly distressed "do you...like?" She almost sounded like she was on the verge of tears not hearing anything from the redhead.
Eijiro turned panicked and immediately brought her into his arms "no baby I love them! I wanted to get my camera we need to make sure they last forever!" He pressed a kiss to her head earning a light giggle. Setting her down he rushed to his phone bringing it back.
Katsuki kept going on about how their kid was the best and he knew it, before making sure the picture he took was one of Ash holding the pan and smiling. They may have been a little messy but they loved their little chef. A few pictures later and they all sat down to eat a pancake she had made.
She proudly pointed out that she had used the instructions on the side of the box to make them, and they tasted good. Eijrio knew that there were probably a lot of mess ups somewhere in the house, and of course he hadn't a clue how she still had chocolate syrup after spilling it but nonetheless he was proud of their daughter.
It was a great morning to wake up too, especially since it had been their day off. They spent the rest of the day playing games and having all sorts of fun with their daughter, happy that she had come into their lives and they had each other to call home.
