A (Not So) Sneaky Visit

Summary:

Victor plays hooky to go see his favorite daywalker.

Notes:

I’m obsessed with this ship, so much so, I’ve started thinking about fankid oc lore now XD named my ocs of their kiddos Vesper and Stella :) that has nothing to do with THIS fic lol but I would like to write out what I’ve thought up for them in more detail one day. Or rather, maybe SOMEDAY, perhaps, heheh :3

Also, my headcanon is that Victor (and by extension, his auntie) can transform into a bat. Being directly derived from their ancestors and all that, they’ve got some ancient vamp traits going on in their bloodline. That’s what I’m going with, at least.

Anyways, sorry for any mistakes but I hope y’all enjoy! :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Victor was once again in Sunnyside, on his way to see his daywalker girlfriend Nova Bright. He needed this hangout so badly, wanting to spend time with his favorite girl and destress from all of the responsibilities his auntie had been bombarding him with lately, claiming she was doing this to make up for the loss of time during all of his years of slacking. He insisted he didn’t need the crash course lessons on leadership, and that he would be fine when he eventually became Shadyside’s leader, but his auntie had insisted.

So, Victor took matters into his own hands, and instead of meeting the Eldress for another lesson in leadership, he decided to skip out on it, sneaking away to Sunnyside. He was walking along the beach, pondering on where he could find Nova when, to his luck, he spotted her training a batch of recruits with Ray. As he neared them, her back facing away from him, unknowing of his impending presence, Victor held up his finger in a shushing motion when the recruits noticed him getting closer. It earned him several snickers, the recruits already guessing how this scenario was about to play out before them.

Victor saw Ray cross his arms and chuckle in amusement just as he was about to approach Nova. Victor raised his arms, about to hug Nova from behind when he was suddenly being flipped onto his back, much like she had done back at camp months ago. The vampire grunted when he made impact. At least his landing was a bit softer this time, the sand offering a better surface than the wooden floor. He would’ve attempted getting up, but the daywalker had him pinned to the ground, her smile beaming at him.

“You never learn, vampire.” Nova teased, her smile turning into a smirk.

“Maybe I do it on purpose for this very reason, daywalker.” Victor flashed her a devilish grin, his fangs on display.

The two stayed on the ground like that for a good moment, flirtatious banter being exchanged between the two in hushed tones until the obnoxiously loud clear of someone’s throat snapped them back to the present moment, reminding them of where they were.

“Recruits!” Ray announced. “I think we’re done here for today. Great work, all of you. Why don’t we leave these two alone, hm?” Ray directed the recruits away from the two future leaders, the younger daywalkers starting to shuffle out from the training grounds. “We’ll see you later, Nova. Oh, and Victor? Tell Vera I said ‘hi’.” He smirked, giving one last nod in acknowledgment to the commander’s daughter before he too vacated the area.

Nova was grateful to Ray for taking charge. She was quite impressed with how far he had come around since camp, majorly improving his attitude. Ray was proving himself to be a worthy assistant to her during training sessions and their duties. And, more importantly, had become a very good friend to her, too. She also found his infatuation with Victor’s friend Vera quite adorable, too. Their interactions were cute to witness, seeing the normally confident daywalker become flustered by the female vampire, but it put a smile on Nova’s face to see Ray so happy.

Nova turned her attention back to her own vampire love interest still lying beneath her, about to question his surprise visit when he lunged forward, kissing her unexpectedly. They lost themselves to the feel of their lips touching, their kiss deepening while they laid there. When the moment was over, Nova helped Victor to his feet, unable to resist throwing her arms around him in a tight hug.

“This was a welcome surprise. I’m so happy to see you, Victor.” Nova gushed, burying her face in his shoulder. His scent was always so pleasant to breathe in.

Victor returned the hug, wrapping his arms around her waist, lifting her up off the ground and spinning them around. When he set her back down, he looked into her eyes, admiring the way they shined when she smiled. “I missed you, Nova.”

Nova returned the sentiment, melting at the sight of him. She got on her tiptoes, wanting to kiss his nose and the little scar he had there. “We were going to see each other soon, silly.”

“Not soon enough.”

A blush colored Nova’s cheeks. She was flattered that her boyfriend would make the trek to her side of the mountain just to see her. She pulled him down for another kiss, the two enjoying being in each other’s presence. When they pulled away, Nova asked him what he wanted to do.

“Honestly, I’m okay just being here with you.”

Nova’s heart was going to pop out of her chest with the way Victor made her heart swell with love. “I love being here with you too, Victor.”

Victor felt his tummy flutter. It was totally worth it skipping out on his lesson to spend time with Nova. Anything involving her was well worth the risk, in his opinion. Any punishment his auntie dealt to him later wouldn’t be enough to dampen his elated mood.

They decided to lay back down on the sand, Victor using his trench coat as a makeshift surface to lay on while Nova used leftover equipment from her training drills to prop her sweater a certain way so it served as a personal sunshade over them. There was a peaceful silence that permeated the air, the two cuddled together and enjoying the occasional sounds of the water crashing along the shore.

Nova snuggled up to the vampire, her head comfortably resting on his chest, simultaneously hearing and feeling the rumbling sensation of his purring coming from him. She was surprised, to say the least, when she first discovered this trait of Victor’s. It made him all the more adorable in her eyes.

Nova glanced up to find Victor matching her gaze, his features visibly relaxed as they held each other. She started rubbing at his chest in a comforting manner, relaxing the vampire even more so, seeing his eyes start to close, a smile gracing his lips. She began humming softly, singing a soothing melody, knowing the vampire loved when she sang to him, effectively lulling him to sleep shortly after. It wasn’t long before the daywalker herself also drifted off to dreamland as her body relaxed completely in the serene moment, dozing off as well.

When the two awoke from their nap some time later, Nova informed him of how late it had gotten, knowing Victor was still learning to understand how time passed in Sunnyside. They begrudgingly got up, neither one wanting to separate from one another but aware that they had to. At least, for the time being, until their next meetup.

“I had fun spending the rest of the day with you, Victor.”

“So did I. I can’t wait to do it all again next time, Nova.”

They kissed goodbye, whispering the affirmations of their romantic feelings to each other, huge smiles plastered onto their faces and their moods soaring to the highest of highs before gathering their belongings and parting ways.

As Victor made his way into Shadyside, his eyebrows shot up in surprise as the Eldress was the last person he was expecting to see there. His auntie had been tucked away in the shadows, showing herself when Victor came running through the tunnel connecting to Shadyside. Before he had a chance to utter a single word to explain himself, she held her hand up, effectively stopping him from speaking before he even began.

“If you put as much effort into your lessons as you do sneaking out to see that daywalker of yours, I wouldn’t need to push you so hard.”

“Auntie, I can explain-“

“There’s no need, Victor.” The Eldress sauntered over to Victor, placing a hand on his shoulder. Her neutral expression softened slightly, releasing a sigh. “I… apologize, for pushing you too hard. I know you’re capable of leading.”

A dumbfounded expression was etched onto Victor’s face. He was expecting a punishment for skipping out on his lesson, not an apology. “Uhh… thank you?”

The Eldress chuckled, squeezing his shoulder affectionately before letting him go. She clasped her gloved hands together and looked at her kin. “She’s quite the little sparkle of joy, isn’t she?”

Victor’s face lit up significantly at the mention of Nova, going off on a rambling tangent about her. “Oh, she IS! She’s the love of my life! Uh, I mean, the LIGHT of my life, yeah! Haha.”

The Eldress listened to her nephew blather on about his mate as they walked towards their village, finally exiting the dimly lit tunnel. She’s met Nova only a handful of times, but at every interaction, she found the daywalker to be quite a delight. A sparkle of joy, indeed. She especially appreciated how goal-oriented and hard-working the young lady was. She’s certainly noticed the positive impact the future leader of the daywalkers had on her nephew, that’s for sure. The Eldress figured she could afford to ease up a little on the young vampire.

“Lessons will be canceled moving forward. As long as you can show me that you’re still dedicated to being a great leader, Victor.”

“Totally, auntie! I will, don’t worry! Anything to get out of those lessons…” at his auntie’s stern look, he continued. “…I mean, yes ma’am.”

The Eldress shook her head, motioning for them to transform into their bat forms so they could get to their castle quicker. Even as they flew, Victor squeaked the entire way there, still talking about his daywalker mate.

As worried as The Eldress could be at times when she thought about the future of Shadyside being in Victor’s hands, he still showed her a lot of promise. And knowing he had someone like Nova to be there for him, watching his back and supporting him, helped to alleviate that worry.

Yes, her bloodline would be more than fine. Victor’s future seemed very… Bright.

Notes:

I was working on a different Nova/Victor fic and it was supposed to be just a quick lil ditty of a fic, when this idea struck me in the middle of writing that one so here we are instead XD
