Chapter 1: Fall Down

Chapter Text

<You have killed 1 life.>

It was only the end of class when everything went down.

It was supposed to be a relaxing night with bubble tea and walking home.

It was supposed to be just with Bai Hua and you, going to prepare a party.

It was supposed … to be a party at home.

Home ….

  Home ….

You look down at the bloody hands, still wet, still red. You just wanted to stop the person from hurting Bai Hua. You wanted to protect her. You wanted to kill him, for getting on top of Bai Hua.

For trying to kill her … For going past the line … FOR ASSAULTING HER!!

“Bai Hua, please…” You called out to the body laying to your right. Ignoring the cries behind, ignoring the body of the assaulter, you could only reach out for your friend. “Please wake up.. Don’t leave me.”

“.....”

“Please, wake up” You brought her hand to your cheek, caressing the still hand, nuzzling into her palm, praying. Your tears gently wash off the blood on the hands. “Bai Hua, wake up….”

“.....”

“Please Bai Hua, I don’t want to lose you.” More tears came out, snorts and drools alike.

“....”

“Bai Hua, please… the bad guy is gone. Please wake up.” You called out louder as if to her soul. “Bai Hua, please. Please. Please. Please. Bai Hua. Bai Hua.  BAI HUA!! PLEASE!!”

“PLEASE !

I BEG OF YOU !

PLEASE !

WAKE UP !

PLEASE !

DON’T LEAVE ME !”

Words pour out like no tomorrow, as if knowing tomorrow, a loved one will not return again.

The people crying, fighting, killing behind you mattered nothing.Your cries were drowning out your hearing.

Unbeknowns to you the timer was up, and you have survived.

__________

MK was never one to have thoughts to hurt anyone, let alone kill a living human. He sees the street of people stabbing, swinging their weapons around, some taking cover, some crying. He wanted to comfort the cries. He wanted to run away. He wanted to know if Dadsy and Tang were okay. He needs to move!

Come on, move. Come on legs. Come on. Come on. MOVE!

MK snaps out of his trance, and runs to stop someone, anyone to stop them from killing. A man was swinging a sharp broken signage at a single mother with her child, cornered between cars. MK could only dash forth and punch the signage off his hands, hard enough for it to fly over a car. MK stood in front of the man, stretching out his arms, defending the mother and child. “Stop, you shouldn’t kill them. You shouldn’t hurt people.”

“SHUT UP KID! MOVE! I AM GOING TO DIE IF I DON’T KILL! DON’T STEAL MY TARGET!!” The man was in a business suit, his belly was barely held by his belt, he was huffing and puffing while glaring at MK. His eye is darting past MK, he knows he will not be able to kill a fit young kid, so he could only aim for the weak single mother or her child. MK covers the view for them.

“NO! What you are doing is WRONG! There has to be another way!” MK tries to reason with the frantic man before him. “We don’t need to kill people!” He was really crashing out his brain to think of a way out.

“JUST MOVE KID!! AND LET ME LIVE!!” The business man pushes forward, trying to push MK aside and is clearly struggling as MK firmed his stance, aiming his body towards the man, one bent leg back to support. With two lives at stake behind him, in the war ground of screams and yelling, in the middle of the streets of cars, MK stresses out his brain more than ever, awakening his one monkey brain cell.

‘Kill one or more lives. Lives does not mean humans. In the district of food and shops, there should be a pet shop !!’

“THAT’S IT! Look at the pet shop behind you!” MK yells, the man startled and stumbled back two steps. “Lives, not people! Animals, insects! Pet Shop!”

In MK’s simple words, the business man twisted his body and hopped heavily to the shop.

MK, quickly breathing a sigh of relief, turns his head and nods to the mother and child. They followed after the business man.

Stomp, stomp, stomp, he dashes and slams his body to the door, breaking the hinges. Uncaring to the broken glass pieces on his chest, or to the shop owner crouching further under the counter desk. The man locks onto the hamster shelves. Picking up an arm sized acrylic cage. Throwing it on the ground. He stomps on its surface, breaking, crashing the little lives within it.

<You have killed 3 lives>

The business man stares at the message. He works up a smile, then a smirk and a laugh. A sick victorious laugh, one that shocks the hidden shop owner to lock her kneels to her chest under the desk.

MK, along with the mother and child, steps into the pet shop, to see the man laughing to himself. The sight is frightening, scaring the child to hide her face in the mother’s skirt. MK hates what he is seeing, a scene right out of a horror show. As the laughter dies, the man could only turn to the door, hands in his pocket and walk. They give way to the man to walk out, he walks slowly, eyes MK and smirks. As if telling MK something.

They watch the business man walk out to the open, facing the street. Eyes widened as he inhaled a large breath like a bagpipe, and shouts. “HEYYYYY!!! THIS PET SHOP HAS LIVES TO CLAIM!! COME NOW!!!” People stop, and stare.

Like moths to light, the crowd of people turned to the shop, slowly, the chaos exploded. Everyone, literally a sea of people rushed towards MK’s direction. Passing the business man, he turns, keeping his smirk.

‘Thanks for the help kid ha’

Fiery filled MK, wanted to just strangle him, that MK helped him and how he was repaid. He quickly grabs the mother and child into the pet shop. Knowing how the people will come killing anything in sight, he needs to act fast. Grabbing three containers or some sorts, they jump over the counter, to the locked staff door. Banging on it, MK turns, seeing the crowd just feets away. He also sees the shop owner, instinctively jumps forth and grabs her hand. “Please open the door or we will die!”

The shop owner, in shock, could only nod and take her keys out. Her fumbling hands can’t access the keyhole, the crowd is now inches away.

‘Faster! Come on, come on, come-’

Click!

The group pushes past the door, as the screams and crashes right behind them. The display window shatters, stomping ground, the crashing shelves, screaming, yelling, the poor animals screeching. MK shut the staff door before the wave of crowd could reach them, just as they could breathe.

“We are still not safe.” In a serious tone, MK faces the two adults and child. “We need to get out of here, else they will break down this door. Miss, please bring us to the back door, we can leave there now.”

The shop owner hesitates, nods, and together, running past the shelves of pet food, cage stuffings, pet toys. Past the doors with cages of sick pets and the restroom. They come to the back fire evacuation door, the shop owner swipes her ID card on the panel at the side, unlocking free escape without setting off the fire alarm. Now, they are out in the back alley.

Panting, the word safe screams in their head.

But the moment was cut short. “What about the penalty? We need to kill.” The mother of the group states.

She cries, kneeling down, hugging her child as if it was the end.

“No, we are safe” MK heroically holds out the three containers of mealworms, each with about twenty, more than enough for the group.

Like a ray of hope before the group, the mother and shop owner are thanking MK, that he has saved their lives, and saved many with his idea.

MK was proud, now he has to get to his family. He just hopes that they are safe from the streets.

<Some constellations have shown interest in you.>

<The constellation ‘Prisoner of the Golden Headband’ is looking at you.’>

“!!” MK froze.

__________

Dinner rush hours are always the busiest time of the day, especially Fridays. Pigsy is never one to back down from a challenge. But now, he could only wish he could.

The shop is flooded with customers panicking left and right. Blood in the soup, spoons and ceramic shards flying, it was like he was back in the battlefield of a warzone, in his younger days…….

Bang..

Fire…

Guns…. Knives….

Red…. Red….. RE-

“Pigsyyyyyyy!!!!”

Tang yells, snapping Pigsy out of his trance. “I am coming” Tang reaches out his hand to Pigsy, afraid that he will be one of the victims on the ground of Pigsy’s Diner, an unfortunate soul in this sick of a game.

Pigsy pushes the crowd aside, bumping the customers as they only wanted blood. It was very unfortunate that they were in a diner, a place with the most possible objects to use. The customers dart at him with spoons and shards of broken ceramics, he skillfully jumps over them, only wants to get to his husband.

Just a foot away, so close, just an arm stretch. Right as Tang smiles at his saviour, a customer darts from Pigsy’s right, this time at Tang.

Tang.. Blood.. Shard..  Tang.. Blood.. Shard..

Tang.. Blood.. Shard..  Tang.. Blood.. Shard..

Tang.. Blood.. Shard..  Tang.. Blood.. Shard..

Tang.. Blood.. Shard..

Tang.. Blood.. Shard..

Tang.. Blood.. Shard..

Tang.. Blood..

Tang.. Blood..

Tang..

Tang

One word, Pigsy absentmindedly swung his muscle body, twisting it, smacking to his right. Pinning the customer to the ground, he grabs the head, lifting and slamming it down, lifting it again and slamming, again and again.

There is only blood, only broken ground, broken skull, no cries, no plead. He was dead.

<You have killed 1 life>

The brightness of the screen shocked Pigsy, he looked at his right hand, the crushed blood stain hand. ‘Right, this IS a battlefield!’

Grabbing the shard of the dead man beneath him, Pigsy turns around and looks at the small crowd before him, ten people, ten people willing to kill. Ten people willing to die.

‘I can do this. I can survive’

Pigsy grabs the chair by the counter, with a one-armed throw at one of the crowd, the person catches the chair but is stabbed in the stomach by Pigsy, dashing right after the thrown chair.

Not wasting the time of the shock from the audience, Pigsy jumps forth, dropkicking on the head of a woman to the counter table, immediately killing her.

‘8 more to go’

The audience are now awake and wary of him, two of them try to jump on him at the same time, but a rookie mistake to underestimate Pigsy. With a roundhouse kick, he spun and knocked down one, following a swing with a shard in his right hand, cutting into the other’s neck. Blood sprayed and spilled across his arm.

‘6 more’

In the midst of the fight, some have known now that they cannot kill Pigsy so they attack one another. A couple backstabs an unknowing man. A woman slit another man’s throat as he was about to charge at Pigsy.

‘4 more’

Pigsy stares down the four, noting that they won’t fight him. ‘ The couple will likely kill the remaining person too.’

<You have killed 3 lives>

‘3? Not 4?!! A miscount!!’

The guy who was knocked down, sprung back up, grabbing Pigsy in a chokehold. A struggle began, Pigsy dropped his shard when the guy sprung his weight in the air, off Pigsy’s feet. Due to Pigsy’s short height, the guy has a big advantage to choke him. “DIE you BASTARD OF A MONSTER!!”

Pigsy struggles, trying to pry off the arm around his neck, but the elbow is locked, his breathing is locked. He is done for.

BUMP!

The chokehold is loose, the two fell backwards. Pigsy quickly gets off the man before he could wak-

Tang is holding a soup sauce pan, with a huge indent. A dent in his favourite soup sauce pan.

“Nooooo! My pan, my business is done for!” Pigsy grabs the pan and caresses it, as if he has lost a soldier. “Noooo! Tang, why didn’t you use something else!”

“Hey! Be thankful for your saviour would ya” Pigsy is thankful that Tang is alive and helped him snap out of his bloodlust. “Ahem”

There is silence now, with three people before them, a fresh kill. Now they are all safe from the timer…  Except Tang, Pigsy realised that knocking down will not finish the job, so he grabbed a ceramic shard, pushes it to Tang. “Kill him Tang”

“What” Tang screeches.

“You have to do it!” Pigsy shakes Tang. “Else you will die!”

“No Pigs-”

“Just do it quickly! We are running out of time! Look he is down, knocked out, it is an easy kill!”

“No Pigsy, I don’t want to!”

“But you will die! I don’t want to lose you!”

“Pigsy, LISTEN!” Tang shakes Pigsy back. “I won’t die, They said kill a life, not a person’s”

Now Pigsy is confused, Tang holds out his fist, unfolding revealing an ant. Folding back his fist, with a crash.

<You have killed 1 life.>

“See, I am not dying, I realised that this is a game, a sick twisted hell of a game, there are loopholes” Tang states the reality of the situations, knowing that the audience are crushed with guilt that they need not kill humans, just insects or so. However, Pigsy’s Diner is always clean, rarely any bugs come by, leading to the only way to survive.

Pigsy is guilt-driven that this could have been avoided, that he didn’t have to kill the customers, he was driven in rage and madness. Tang notices his husband’s sorrowful face, hugs him close to muffle his cries. The customers also start to tear up, the reality of taking a human life crushes them to a plum, a guilt-driven life they must live on.

Tang is afraid but is more concerned of Pigsy’s mental state after reliving his past.

-POP-

A sound rips though the space, Tang could only look down at the once unconscious man, now a headless corpse. Chills run down everyone’s back.

The severity of penalties are as good as death. The reality of a peaceful future is gone.

<300 coins awarded>

-ZAP!-

A new horror filled era has begun.

“Now what do we have here? Hahaha” A being called Dokkaebi appeared. It was the one who started this madness, the one who destroyed the peace of the world. “A fantastic scenario finished! What a scene! I would applaud more for the pig! HAHAHA”

“You have all proved that you have the intellect and skills to survive! Oh but you are all still weak, like worthless bugs. It’s not over yet, our dear Constellations are looking forward to the growth of yours, overcoming the scenarios ahead!”

Constellations? Scenarios?

“Isn’t it exciting? A brand new world awaits, and more powers to attain! More stories to create, more skills to develop! I am sure that some of you will be getting a few sponsorships of our dear Constellations very soon!”

Stories? Sponsorships?

“Truly a great contribution to the Star Stream! An amazing species of humans can stand against the monsters and disasters that will plague this world. I do hope that some of you get to live longer.”

Star stream? Monsters? Disasters?

“Enough now! Let’s get a move on and start moving to a better area for viewership!” Dokkaebi snaps his fingers.

<Sub-Scenario>

<Get to main city subways.>

<Time Limit: 7 days>

<Gather supplies and teammates.>

<Reward: ???>

“I wish you the best of luck.”

___________

A top scholar in the graduating cohort of the engineering department and a sports genius freshmen delinquent working together is a rare sight, especially when they are Red Son and Mei from opposing university schools. However, in the case of an apocalypse, it is a necessity.

“Let’s get moving. There is a coffee shop around this block.”.Red Son points to the housing apartments, half collapsed due to the new residents of monsters now inhabiting it. “We just need to get supplies and get out, don’t make too much noise.”

“Oh okay, Smarty pants. Watch me kill those suckers and then we don’t have to sneak in.” Mei proudly puffs her chest, readying herself to zap up the block.

“No, you will provoke more to come. We will lose our supplies and spot to get food from!” Red Son glares at the all-to-ready-to-fight stance that Mei is in. “Get your head straight, horse girl! Just be as quiet and slow as a snail will do the trick.”

Of course, working together is a difficult scene to picture.

<The Constellation ‘Wise White Horse’ is shaking his head at his incarnation.>

<The Constellation ‘Wind Maiden’ is delighted of the smarts that Red Son has.>

<50 coins gifted to Red Son>

“Humph! See I am right, Horse girl.” Red Son smirks, heading to the block in a quiet steady pace. Mei shot a middle finger to his back.

<Some Constellations are laughing at the scene.>

“Would you two stop fighting? Let’s just get the supplies and go, we can raid a nest later for rewards.” Lee Jihye paces by Mei. “Just stop this heart warming rivalry that can develop into a romantic interest story.”

“Eww no way!” Red Son and Mei cringe at the thought of that. Jihye smirks, eyeing the two who always quarrel and yet work the same way. Red Son is fighting his itch to kill the monsters and Mei is also caring to come on this expedition to raid supplies.

‘If only Master was here, we could have raided first then get supplies.’ Jihye straps her sword to her waist, the group sneaks into the coffee shop, avoiding getting out of the sheltered area as they will be spotted by the monsters.

Supplies, such as sugar, biscuits, water and canned food can be easily obtained in convenience stores and street side food stalls. Many people hide underground in the subways to be safe, however, smaller stronger groups will head above ground to raid for coins, rewards and the supposed supplies.

Red Son and Mei have managed to be recruited into the group which is formed by an individual, Yoo Joonghyuk. A very powerful person, unknownst of which Constellation he is sponsored by, but a heck of a fighter he is.

Only four days, since the world fell to the hands of scenarios, humanity has been tested to this state. Many individuals have started developing skills to fight, to communicate, to survive, all grouped and scattered, whether dead or still living unknown. Red Son and Mei are some of the few individuals chosen by Joonghyuk, many has pursued for his protection, only to be rejected and cast aside.

Red Son, a rare individual favoured by two Constellations ‘Wind Maiden’ and ‘Demon Bull’. He did not choose a sponsor but he is heavily favoured and supported, One can only imagine what he can do with his powers.

<Exclusive Skills: Pyrokinesis Lv.6, Fire-boost Lv.5, Bull charge Lv.2, Mindmap Lv.2, Stealth walk Lv.2, Accuracy Lv. 2, Weapon Building Lv.1.>

<Stigma: Ifrit Spirit Command Lv.1, Fire warp Lv.1.>

<Overstats: Stamina Lv.10, Strength Lv.6, Agility Lv. 7, Magic power Lv.20 >

Mei, Long Xiaojiao, an individual who excels in reflexes, even better than Lee Jihye, sponsored by a water dragon constellation ‘Wise White Horse’, with more than just one attribute. A powerful young individual indeed.

<Attribute: Lightning, combination of fire and light(rare), Water command (mystic), Century-old Meditation (mystic)>

<Exclusive Skills: Sword training Lv.5, Flash Lv.4, Demon slaying Lv.2, Absolute sense Lv.2, Sword Qi Lv.2, Power boost Lv.1.>

<Stigma: Quick slaying Lv.2, Sea command Lv.1, Transformation Lv.1.>

<Overstats: Stamina Lv.11, Strength Lv.7, Agility Lv. 15, Magic power Lv.12 >

Lee Jihye, a young individual who was first recruited by Yoo Joonghyuk, trained under him and is now placed to train two other older individuals to learn better control. Sponsored by the Constellation ‘Martine War God’, aligned well with Mei’s sponsor.

<Attribute: Scarred sword demon (rare)>

<Exclusive Skills: Sword training Lv.5, Demon slaying Lv.4, Absolute sense Lv.2, Ghost walk Lv.2.>

<Stigma: Sea battle Lv.1, Large army command Lv.1.>

<Overstats: Stamina Lv.13, Strength Lv.12, Agility Lv. 13, Magic power Lv.9 >

Currently, the group mostly does supply scouting and training but raiding monster nests. Every once in a while, they will do individual sparring as well when coming above ground. Joonghyuk would not guide them nor leave them without instructions, as knowing Red Son and Mei might cause some troubles without supervision. At least, Lee Jihye can put her leadership skills to good use.

“Done. Now we just need to set a-”

“Oh what have we hereeee” The group look at the entrance where they entered, a pack of old men strolls in, delighting the sight of survivors. “Looks like we can get some coins and levels.”

Sometimes, there will be groups that will hunt people than monsters, easier targets to them, better to manipulate….or so they think.

“Sorry, not interested in your sales. I already got insurance and lawyers, get some better suits for showmanship.” Mei simply yawned at the pack’s failed intimidation. Mocking the men as nothing more like hyenas pretending to be lions.

“Pfft, we don’t need lawyers now and insurance doesn’t cover shit.” Jihye snickers at Mei's mocks. As it is true, the pack lacks class, no proper boots, no supply bags, no hair care, just some clothes they found and a couple swords. The pack has five individuals, likely from a subway three stops down their own.

What caught Red Son of the group is the lantern, a steel-plated portable lantern. It must be how they have come so far. That really sparks his interest. “Oh gentlemen, we can let you off easy if you drop everything you have.”

“Ha, like three kids can fight five adults, why don’t you come here sweethearts, let us show you what we can do” One of the swordsmen licks his lips, as if he can just taste victory already. Contrary, the victory is long gone when Jihye and Mei cannot hold back their disgust and flash right before them. The swordsmen are first to go, losing their arms, next is the biggest guy who is the tank, hard to strike from the front but defenceless from the sides and back. The remaining two are caught in a fire trap, Red Son controls the fire to wrap around their feet.

“Heeeeee, please let me go, okay, we just wanted some food and levels. That’s all, just food and levels” One of them pulls out his courage to beg, Red Son only smiles, cupping his chin, looking directly into his eyes. “Oh really, how interesting of you to show us what you can do.”

“I just need this and you can be on your merry way” He grabs the lantern from them, and extinguishes the flames. Smiling at his new equipment, then to his group. “What the heck Red boy, we can finish them you know.”

“Ya, they are just disgusting no-good murders, it’s better to kill them” Jihye adds on, swinging her sword to clean off excess blood. “There is no need for excessive kills when they will die in seconds soon.” Red Son shows certainty that the pack will die completely. Jihye and Mei gaze behind him, the running men and sure enough, they are swiped by the monsters from the block in seconds.

“This lantern is a rare find, not only lighting the space but also hides the presence of a group” Red Son praised the lantern, as if something to work with his skills “I can’t wait to build it better!”

“Ha all that for a hiding lantern, lame, would be better if they have good swords. These are junks” Mei is disappointed at the finds. “At least we have a way to go back without much trouble now.”

<Some Constellations enjoyed the fights and teamwork.>

<200 coins gifted each.>

“Wow, that's more than what these guys have” Jihye delights at more coins to invest in stats. “We should head back now, don’t want to miss raiding some nests” Only Mei would get more excited about heading back now for more raids, Red Son on the other hand wants to get started in working out new builds.

‘Now, I wonder what Master is doing? More raids?’ Jihye could only hope that Joonghyuk would come back soon for the scenarios starting soon.

_________

As a reader of ‘Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World’, Kim Dokja is confident that he knows the ways of the scenarios, the Star Stream and Constellations. But not all is revealed, not every character is written in the novel.

<This person’s information cannot be read with ‘Character List’>

<This person isn’t registered in ‘Character List’.>

Somehow, even reading every regression of Yoo Joonghyuk, every sentence in the novel, does not apply to characters who barely make an appearance nor a dialogue.

‘Guess I have to make do with this.’

In just five days, Kim Dokja had to deal with killing, survived an exploded train wreck, was thrown off a bridge by the asshole of a protagonist, Yoo Joonghyuk, survived a sea serpent, killed it, made a contract to exploit a Dokkaebi, running through the city for supplies. He is mentally exhausted, like an overworked Japanese salesman working overtime for the past week. Still, he needs to help the asshole to not regress and get to safety. Well, safety isn’t a good word, there is no more safe space in this world now.

‘I really am here in the scenario.’

“er mm..., mr. dokja” Dokja spins his head to meet the little girl behind him. A girl no more than twelve years old, how she survived the first scenario must have traumatized her, no children should kill at such a young age. “I think there is a something there, in the convenience store, it is shiny so it should be okay”

Apparently, it is luck that the little girl has gotten a sponsor from a Divine Constellation, one who gives her a stigma to see who is good and evil, or appraise a weapon whether cursed or enchanted. If only, Dokja can see the Constellation, with so many of them on the channel, none stood out.

“.....” Dokja cannot speak due to the Ellain monkey’s lungs (item), he pats her head. The girl is completely fine in the poison mist, odd and likely due to her passive skill, but too young to be a scout. They pace themselves into the store, grabbing small supplies in quantity, most are stuffed in the girl’s schoolbag.

‘The shiny aura…what can it be…’

Dokja looks around, nothing like a treasure box nor weapons. The store is raided before, maybe a creature or a per-

“Sav… me. PLease.”

The pair of heads peek out to the corner of the store, by the drinks. A woman, a masked face, no weapons, ragged clothes, likely abandoned, or worse. The girl tugs on Dokja, and nods at him.

‘It is her.’

They hurriedly grab their supplies, leaving a quarter behind. The woman needs help and fast, the poison mist will kill her. Dokja carries her on his back with two filled plastic bags, the girl grabs one, and they run to the closest subway.

‘Geumho station.’

Only to arrive at a closed gate. ‘ Damn it, which one, no time to check the novel.’

“4th…” The woman muffles out a word. The girl could only follow behind Dokja as they dash to the gate across the street, the gate is closing, they can’t make it.

Dokja, slides out a pipe from the ground, stuck it to the opening of the gate. “Open up”

“WHat the heck, get lost! We are already filled with people. We don’t need more!” A startled voice barks back to Dokja.

“There is an injured person and a child with me” Kim Dokja bangs on the gate, prompting them.

“We don’t care, there are too many people here!” The voice holds firm and annoyed at the outsiders.

Dokja simply lifts the pipe, prying the gate open for the girl to pass though first then, himself with the woman. The voice, no voices startled at the strength, a group of middle aged men are standing before them, a distance made from running away.

<You have entered a safe zone.>

Dokja proceeds to close the gate, and settle down the woman. “Use this item, hold it at the mouth and breathe, the toxins will be neutralized, but it will take a while for you to recover.” Pressing the item to her mouth.

‘I should check for her charac-’

“OI! You there!” An annoyed voice interrupts Dokja’s thoughts, a very particular voice that he can remember, Han Myungoh, he is definitely startled by Dokja’s presence. “Ho- ho- ho- how are YOU still alive??!!”

“.....”

“mr dokja, do you know him?” Dokja just nods, and not bothering with the group approaches the three.

“Get rid of that man, he is a deceitful man! He should be dead, I swear I saw him get eaten by a sea serpent!” Myungoh grumbles at Dokja like he is a pest appearing in his sight.

Chills sprout from Dokja’s side as he is packing up the bags to move the woman, he stops and sees the girl freezing a small icicle in her hand. “Should I stop him? Sounds like he knows and saw you died and yet he is abandoning you again.”

It is the first time Dokja is defended in any situation, especially by a child, one with firm morals to kill. He stands to pat her head, distracting her rage-filled face, a girl, no more than twelve, in a cute school uniform and kitten decorated accessories, shouldn't be killing for him. “No Bai He, I can take care of it.”

Bai He pouts, she just wanted to repay Dokja for saving her and keeping her company so far, no one should disrespect her friend.

<Your understanding of Bai He increases by 5%.>

<This person’s information still cannot be read with ‘Character List’>

<Some constellations smirks at the scene and put up a request.>

<Request approved.>

<Sub-Scenario>

<Obstructional Removal>

<Revenge for the abandonment and betrayal>

<>Time Limit: 5 mins>

<Compensation: 300 coins>

<Failure: ???>

‘Hmmm, not bad, today must be a good day.’ Dokja cracks his neck, preparing for a fight.

>>>>>

“Okay. Okay, I will guide you” Han Myungoh begs, he and other men are completely defeated and exhausted now. Dokja has specifically targeted him to be the last and the most hits to the face, he knows that Myungoh has connections to the leader at the station as to how the men obey his commands.

“You should have done so at the start, nice to see you again too.” Dokja smiles, intimidating him a little.

<The constellation ‘Devil-like Judge of Fire’ is delighted at outcome.>

<300 additional coins gifted.>

“That is so cool, Mr Dokja!” Bai He is practically bouncing on her feet with the bags of supplies. “I can’t wait to tell sis and Sib when I see them!”

“Oh, you have siblings?” Dokja now curious of Bai He, they could hardly talk back outside earlier.

“Well, one older sister and a close friend, they live with us and helps me a lot. Like a sibling, so I got two older siblings!” Bai He is speaking so fondly of them, and recounting the birthdays, toys and sleepovers. The voice dies down a bit when she counts to the latest birthday. “It was supposed to be my birthday a few days ago, but everything exploded and fell on my birthday.”

The day of the start of the novel was Bai He’s birthday, could also be the day she lost her siblings.

Dokja is unsure how to comfort her, when he wants to, they have arrived to the crowd before them. A refuge of people, tents, all in at the station, including Lee Hyunsung, Yoo Sangah and Lee Gilyoung.

“Hyung!” “Dokja!” “Dokja-ssi!”

Dokja and Bai He are greeted with the three, Gilyoung hugs him, missed him even.

Hyunsung and Sangah are relieved to see him alive, Myungoh has gone away, likely to report to the leader.

“We are so sorry… for leaving you behind Dokja-ssi. We were so worried, thankfully, Joonghyuk is right.” Hyunsung apologises for the incident of the bridge.

“No, it’s okay, There was nothing you could have done, it can’t be helped.”

‘Just that Joonghyuk is too much of an asshole to listen either way.’

Dokja sets down the woman from his back, Bai He secures the bags, taking out a jellybean to munch. Curious eyes set on her. “Dokja, who is she?”

“Oh, this is Bai He, she was out there on her own so I guided her here to a refuge.”

“Out there alone, how can a child survive outside? In the poison mist? Is she alright?” Sangah panics to check on Bai He. “I am fine, just one of my skills keeps me safe, I think. I was lost, looking for my siblings before mr dokja came. Oh, have you seen them? Tall, dark hair, one of them has a hairband like me, and the other has a scarf all the time?”

She gestures her hands around, and points to her kitty pattern hairband. Sangha only shakes her head, and sighs that at least she wasn’t hurt or sick.

“Bai He has also helped me a lot with the supplies hunt.” Dokja praises Bai He for her insights at gathering supplies, making the process safer and even save a life. “I will go with you at the next scout, hyung.”

Gilyoung pouts, stares at Bai He as she flusters from the praise. Hyunsung then explains to Dokja of the main scenario now, that the station refuge splits to two groups, for scouting and food distribution. People goes out for supplies and food is distributed evenly for the weak. It was miserable, but peaceful enough to be safe.

Getting sense of how things have turned out, he hands one pack out each to the three to eat. Now, it was bound to happen, the leader steps out to thank Dokja for his arrival with food.

“Welcome, brave new members of Geumho station. I am pleased to find your presence with supplies for us.” The leader announces in front of the refugee crowd, to ignite their curiosity and corner them.

“I am sure KIm Dokja-ssi is willing to share with the people here as we are desperate need of food.” He eyes the bags behind Dokja. “Surely you can continue to join our scout groups or food distribution. We are in need of more hands as well.”

‘There it is, a bastard of a leader with hypocrisy, he knows what is going on here’

Dokja takes a stare. “And if I refuse?”

“I beg your pardon? As I said, we are in need of people and food. You have arrived here with more than enough for us, like a hero saving us from monsters and leading us. The poor people here are in need of you.” The leader quirks his smile, deeper.

The tension silence only confirms Dokja’s response.

The leader has turned and left the group. Hyunsung feels guilty that the offer was rejected, they could help more people if they scout. Dokja stops that train of thought. “There is no need to think about the offer, don’t lose that feeling that it was ‘not right’, don’t forget it.”

“But why did you giv-”

“WHY aren’t you giving us? We are more in need, you know!” The two face a closing crowd of refugees. “Just give it to us! DON’T monopolize the food! Give it to the distribution group, we can all get even!”

They all complain, pointing fingers at the five.

‘Bastard!’
