Surprise!

Summary:

Y/N discovers she’s pregnant. She's terrified — she and Leo just turned 18, and their whole future suddenly feels uncertain. With Annabeth’s advice and support, she gathers the courage to tell Leo. What she doesn’t expect is just how ecstatic he’ll be — or how the rest of Camp Half-Blood will react when the news spreads like wildfire.

Work Text:

Camp Half-Blood, Two Weeks After the Summer Solstice

Y/N stood in Cabin Nine, frozen in place.

There it was. The fourth test. Same result.

Positive.

Each pink line carved a deeper pit in her stomach. Her hands trembled as she set the test down next to the others, all lined up like quiet little prophecies. Her heart thudded painfully against her ribs.

“Gods,” she whispered. “Leo…”

She didn't know how he would take it. He loved her, sure — but love didn't always mean ready. And Leo was many things — brilliant, loyal, loving, occasionally on fire — but ready for this?

She didn’t know.

Cabin Six, Later That Afternoon

Annabeth was flipping through a blueprint when Y/N arrived, looking pale and visibly shaken. She didn’t speak at first. Just held up the test like it was the blade of Damocles itself.

Annabeth raised a brow, instantly serious. “Sit down.”

Y/N sat. The words spilled out — her fears, the timing, Leo’s dreams, her dreams, the shock, the guilt.

“I can’t tell him,” she said again, hugging her arms around her knees. “He’ll think I ruined everything.”

“Y/N.” Annabeth set the blueprint aside and fixed her with that piercing look only she could manage. “He won’t. You’re not ruining anything. Life throws things at us, and Leo? He builds from wreckage. That’s what he does. If anything… this might be the best surprise he’s ever gotten.”

Y/N stared at her. “You think so?”

Annabeth’s eyes softened. “I know so.”

That Evening – Bunker Nine

The forge glowed golden-orange, casting flickering light across stacks of bronze and half-built inventions. Leo was elbow-deep in wires, goggles askew, muttering something about “thermodynamic donut propulsion.” He didn’t notice Y/N until she stepped close, arms wrapped tightly around herself.

He looked up, grinning. “Hey, mi reina. Come to see the next big disaster or stop me before Festus gets jet boosters?”

Her face was pale, and she didn’t laugh like she usually did. She swallowed. “Leo… I need to tell you something.”

Immediately, the tools clattered to the floor. He wiped his hands on a rag and walked over, concern etched deep across his face. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

She nodded, but her voice trembled. “I’m… pregnant.”

For a moment, the world stood still.

Leo blinked.

“You’re… wait. Wait. You’re—are you serious?”

She nodded again, eyes glassy. “Yeah. I just found out. I don’t know what to do. I’m terrified, Leo. I didn’t plan for this. I didn’t know how to tell you, I thought maybe—”

“HOLY SHIT.”

Y/N startled.

WE’RE GONNA BE PARENTS?” Leo shouted, his voice bouncing off the bunker walls with pure, unfiltered joy. “LIKE—FOR REAL??”

Before she could say anything, he lunged forward, grabbed her around the waist, and lifted her off the floor, spinning her in a fast circle.

“WE’RE HAVING A BABY!”

Y/N shrieked, laughing in spite of herself.

Then—

Leo abruptly froze mid-spin.

His eyes widened in horror. “Oh no. Oh gods. Is that bad? I spun you! What if I scrambled the baby?!”

He set her down immediately, hands fluttering over her shoulders, then her belly, like she was made of glass.

“I’m sorry—I didn’t mean to jostle the kid! He’s the size of, like, a flax seed right now, right? Or a sesame? Something tiny. Tiny people should not be spun!

Y/N burst out laughing, breathless. “I think we’re okay.”

Leo dropped to his knees, hands on either side of her waist. Then, with infinite gentleness, he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her belly — even though there was barely any sign of change.

“Sorry, little flame,” he whispered. “Dad got a little excited. I’ll keep the roller coasters to a minimum till you're at least five.”

Tears spilled from Y/N’s eyes, but they weren’t from fear anymore.

He looked up at her, eyes shining with love and a kind of amazement she’d never seen before. “We’re gonna be parents. Me. Us.

“You’re not scared?” she whispered.

“Oh, I’m absolutely terrified,” he said brightly. “But also? So freaking happy I could combust.

He stood again and cupped her face with warm, calloused hands. “I never thought I’d get this. A family. A future. And now… you’re giving me both. There’s literally no blueprint for how grateful I am.”

She pulled him into a tight hug, overwhelmed, shaking with relief and emotion. He held her like he never wanted to let go.

They stayed like that for a long time.

The Next Morning – Camp Half-Blood Mess Hall

News spread faster than Hermes on Red Bull.

By breakfast, whispers turned to murmurs, and murmurs turned to a full-blown buzz.

“Did you hear?”
“Leo and Y/N?”
“No way—she’s pregnant?”
“I thought she was just getting fat from s’mores.”
JASON!

Leo didn’t care.

He entered the mess hall like he owned Olympus itself, strutting like a proud rooster, one arm slung around Y/N’s shoulders, the other dramatically gesturing to his chest.

“My people,” he announced. “It is true. I have created life. In collaboration with my brilliant, beautiful partner.” He bowed to her with exaggerated flair. “All hail Queen Y/N.”

Y/N turned crimson as Camp Half-Blood erupted into cheers, laughter, and applause.

Piper ran over and practically tackled her in a hug. “Oh my gods! I’m so excited for you. You’re going to be the coolest mom ever.”

Jason high-fived Leo with a grin. “Dad jokes incoming.”

Annabeth smirked at Y/N from across the table. “Told you.”

Even Chiron raised his goblet. “To the next generation of heroes.”

The Stoll brothers were already placing bets on the baby’s cabin assignment.

“Team Hephaestus!” Travis called.
“Nah,” Connor countered. “She’s the mom. Could be Athena.”
“Please,” Leo scoffed. “This kid’s gonna come out wielding a wrench and setting stuff on fire. Trust.”

Clarisse grunted from the Ares table. “If it cries too loud, I’m chucking it in the lake.”

Leo grinned. “Noted. Will install volume control.”

That Night – Campfire Sing-Along

Leo had dragged a blanket out by the lake. The stars shimmered above them, and a gentle breeze rustled the trees.

Y/N lay curled beside him, her head on his chest, his arm around her, warm and safe.

“You sure you’re ready for this?” she asked softly.

Leo looked down at her and smiled. “Nope. Not even a little.”

She laughed.

“But I want it,” he said. “I want you. And our little baby. I want the late-night feedings and the diapers and even the spit-up on my favorite tool belt. I want it all. Because it’s ours.”

She turned to him, eyes shining.

“And when they ask where they came from,” he added, placing a hand over her stomach, “we’ll tell them: from the brightest spark and the strongest love.”
