Work Text:
The space between you and me leaves room to grow.
On the track and off the field
My resolve burns to reach the stage of many,
Where only two spotlights glow.
Cracks in the road can not cut off a path,
Just like stillness can not quell a racing mind.
We keep running on parallel roads,
Wind drag increasing as the distance grows.
Cold like the breath on my neck I feel at night,
When to run is all that's on my mind
-
The space between you and me leaves room to grow.
Every day I strive to bridge it faster,
Every sleepless night it seems to get farther.
I keep running to still be in your gaze,
The spotlight I perform best under.
Months go by to fear your light will leave my stride.
As days grow shorter and nights grow longer
My legs grow dolorous from strive
Running to the you in the future,
Running from the me in the present.
-
The space between you and me grows no longer,
As the black road bends your way.
And like my canter slowed to a trot
Yours nearly came to a halt.
On this final curtain call
Is to dream now all we are allowed?
A question to a problem time would solve,
As I wake from this long night
And a new day at the races starts,
Where I show you we can have it all.
-
The space between you and me leaves room no more,
But our road ahead sure does.
